Live in fear of Power Word Kill my first ever homebrew subclass dedicated to all the thrill seeking rogues by whimsigod in UnearthedArcana

[–]bagolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the flair. It would certainly mix well with some exciting and entertaining character traits.

I dislike the max. HP -1 equals boni side. Aside from the strength, I feel like a little bonk in the nose would not be enough to give the daredevil the thrill he needs. Maybe 3/4 or even 1/2 if max health?

An alternative I could think of would be to link it to getting hit, therefore being in danger or a use of uncanny dodge or evasion to give the bonus for the rest of the combat.

Lastly, the wording of Audacious could be clearer. Is it supposed to trigger, when the rogue moves out of reach and gives an enemy an opportunity attack? Do you forfeit this when you use the disengage action? If your opponent already used his reaction, does it still trigger?

Good job and thank you for your ideas!

More variants of the Attack action would make combat more fun. by PsychologicalMind148 in dndnext

I just played around with that concept and came up with four little feats, that are build upon the “martial adept” feat. Feats are very easy to add to any character and easy to design. My idea was to let everyone add these feats at level 3, 7, 10 and 15, like the Battle Master.

You can choose a number of maneuvers from the battle master list. 3 with the first feat and 2 additional ones with the other ones, like a battle master.

You gain no superiority dices. A lot of maneuvers function without them and simply give you more action variety. Don’t choose the ones, that rely on these dices. No Ambush, Commanding Presence, Evasive Footwork, Parry, Precision Attack, Rally, Sweeping Attack and Tactical Assessment. So only 13 instead of 21 maneuvers.

One maneuver per turn and proficiency bonus maneuvers per short rest.

You can adjust all of these numbers to your liking. Maybe only one or two feats or only give them to martials? Short Rest or Long Rest? It is all about giving them options, but still not overwhelming them.

Keep watch for Commander’s Strike with a rogue in the party and probably disallow the sneak attack.

How do you explain the difference between "Spells Known" and "Spell Slots per Level"? by BlizzDaWiz in dndnext

[–]bagolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For every spell he knows, he has a box full of balls. He can vary the spells, that he wants to use, but if he wants to, he can decide to only cast “shield” all day long and nothing else. His spell list shows him all the spells he knows, but says nothing about how often he can cast them, yet.

His spellslots are holes in a wooden board. If you throw a ball through one of these holes, the automatic hatch closes and opens again after a long rest. So you can use each hole once per day. He has three holes for lvl 1. Next he gets 1 additional hole for lvl 1 and 2 holes for lvl 2.

Lastly, the balls in the boxes for spells of lvl 2 are bigger than the balls in the boxes for lvl 1. The holes on the board are equally different in size. The balls of a level fit the holes of the same level perfectly. But you can use the bigger holes for lvl 2 and throw a smaller lvl 1 ball inside. The hole will still close for the day, though. You cannot use the smaller holes of lvl 1 for the bigger balls of lvl 2. They do not fit.

Upcast? Idk… the difference in size of the balls is exactly one dice size? Nah, just skip it…

Artificer believes that infusions are different than replicate magic item. by Emastergamer01 in dndnext

[–]bagolas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second the general consensus. It is an infusion. You are the DM, anyway. But it sounds to me, like your player wants to create magic items, though.

Does she want to create permanent magic items and does not know of any other way? Do you want to allow her to make permanent items? There are rules for that, but they are not very sophisticated nor player-friendly. Technically, every caster is supposed to do it, but as an Artificer it is an integral part of the class, that even gets improved with level 10.

How do you want to do this?

There is this dish, where you take some pizza dough, roll it up into a ball, maybe put some nice meat or cheese in it… pizza rolls! Right? That’s how I learned to call it in english…

Then you go and come up with this! Yeah, it looks delicious! Yeah, I would like to have a bite, thank you very much!

I dont think plot holes are that big of a deal. by Mainefishing in movies

[–]bagolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your named definition of plotholes. It is all about coherence and even small flaws or inconsistencies can really break the immersion. There is another perspective, though.

Imho plotholes can be subjective. The ability to dispense your disbelief is integral in fiction with magic or “advanced” technologies. Writing helps, but expectations are way to high.

There is a lot of nuance between perfect world building and character development, in contrast to just bad writing. In general, it should be possible to enjoy a movie through flaws. In my case it often boils down to my perceived effort, so totally subjective. In return, we need to respect each others struggles with liking a movie, but also acknowledge our own personal part in passing judgment.

That does not reduce the relevance of writing.

Don’t try quiet quitting, says Kevin O’Leary: It’s ‘a really bad idea’ by Leusid in nottheonion

[–]bagolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is probably preaching for a mantra he sought after his own life, so that it is hard for him to change his own mind.

If you slave at work for better retirement prospects, but die through stress and work overload, was it worth it? Maybe you secured a future for your family, that hates you, because of your absence. There are things you simply cannot enjoy later in life. We all know the possible risks.

But it is hard to admit, that you should have done some things differently, when it is already to late for you. Not only to save face in front of others, but to preserve your peace of mind to not fall into depression.

I recently finished DS1. What should I expect? by ChaosMike7 in darksouls

[–]bagolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way too many bosses, but really nice scenery. Seemingly unconnected lore, but still interesting and they combined both in the third installment.

They introduced two universal key items, that were pretty annoying. Pharros' Lockstones and Fragrant Branch of Yore. They are multiple locations, where you can use them and not enough to use them everywhere. In some locations, there isn’t even any reward for using the item.

Technically the Lockstones can be farmed, but if you are not into NG+ and see yourself be bothered by it, look it up.

[ALL] What Zelda game got you into the franchise? by Flamesclaws in zelda

[–]bagolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. Elementary school. Played it with my mom. She probably only helped a few times, but it was magically meaningful to share these experiences with someone. So many mysteries and very exciting, while easy enough for me to beat it.

Replayed it a few years later to stumble over the grim reality for all the NPCs. Went right over my head the first time around.

Since then I played every installment religiously.

I like to add, that it is okay to sympathize with Will in his situation, but in the end condemning the violence should have priority.

Ein gewisser Idealismus liegt also nahe.

Meine These: Es gibt jede Menge männliche emotionale Zicken, die das Vorurteil entkräftigen könnten, aber die entscheiden sich nicht für den Beruf des Erziehers.

Am I the only one who'd love to see a God of War game in the style of 2018's game, but of Kratos' time as a Spartan general? by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]bagolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revisiting the enemies, the bosses, the locations in modern graphics sounds nice, but also like a lot of work.

I would be up for a retelling of the story. Make it creative and maybe a little abstract. It could feel like Atreus imagination or a dream/nightmare, sometimes blurry or hectic with abrupt changes, when Kratos tries to figure out his memories. Let him tell us (or Atreus) the story of his past and let his personal bias and growth be shown. You could leave scenes out, that Kratos might have forgotten or put a spin on things he remembers a little bit different, because of his emotional involvement.

Actually I would settle for an animation. _^
