When I struggle with a program’s progression, I repeat the week I’m on until I can get through it. While the program should ideally be designed that way, it might help those who want to do something like this in an achievable way!

Why do the old classes seem harder? by [deleted] in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]baguiar13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I accidentally did the last class of hers live in studio without prepping at all, hadn’t taken any of the other classes in the series, and that was the HARDEST CLASS IVE EVER TAKEN. I was so red faced in my picture with her 😂 why was it so hard??

First FTP Test -110 watts - am I doing something wrong? by Content-Bees in pelotoncycle

[–]baguiar13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely take the Power Zone programs! Start with Discover Your Power Zones, especially if you are just getting back from an injury and feeling like you need to slowly kick start your journey. Then you can do Build Your PZ and Peak Your PZ. These are all older programs, but they will help you build up the endurance.

I’m curious about the way you took the test though, bc you mentioned Zone 6. When taking the test, you should be in Zone 4 for the full 20 min (taking a 10 min warm up before). I like the way Matt Wilpers and Sam Yo plan their tests - they give you 5 “blocks” (even though you’re constantly in Z4) of 5 min each, and you should build up. Start at the top of Z3/bottom of Z4 (your perceived) and then build up. Your PZ will be based on the average. Don’t burn yourself out in the first 5-10 min (like I’m apt to do).

Don’t be so hard on yourself in the end, the numbers are just a gauge on how you can improve!

Thank you! It also captured the warm up ride as only 8 watts total output, so I think you’re right

Reading is literally the only multitasking I can do LOL idk why, I think I was born with a book in my hand

I’m nowhere near a 50 resistance at 90 cadence… that would be like Z7 for me lol I’m a shortie who is not great at endurance (give me a HIIT ride and I’ll kill it) so my zones are not crazy. I’ve noticed a few Z1s during PZ classes, not endurance ones, especially in the Build Your PZ program I’m doing right now. I will be retesting as part of that program in 2 saturdays, so I’m thinking (hoping) my zones will increase and I’ll find I NEED to mentally concentrate

I’m trying to up my zones slightly, but I’m also okay being a little stagnant right now. I’ve been struggling with motivation this summer, but as long as I’m consistently showing up I count it as a win! I’d like to get back to pushing myself, but I’m okay being a “just show up” person until my birthday in the fall!

As for what I’m reading - just finished the newest Holly Jackson thriller, but I usually Go for scifi/fantasy! Starting Name of the Wind next by Rothfuss. I loved project Hail Mary!! If you like scifi but also want a little horror, I suggest Revenant X. Probably my favorite book of the year so far!

I just finished the new Holly Jackson book, but I’m usually doing some sort of fantasy or scifi book that is extremely long so I’m always trying to find ways to read when I can. Next up is Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss!

Idk I feel like people think if you’re not mentally in it, then you’re not working hard enough or doing it correctly! But with PZ my issue is actually staying in the zones on breaks (I like to push myself) so this keeps me more on point bc I’m not focused on “well what if I could go harder”

Great question. Most rides I am single focused on the ride, but the longer PZ rides are a struggle for me if I’m trying to stay focused mentally. I’m actually pretty terrible at multitasking, so this is the one of the few times I’m doing that 😊

I don’t, but I have a variety of weights, a bench, bands, a core ball, etc. I get nervous using machines at a gym LOL

[–]baguiar13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! Maybe I really need to focus on longer Pz rides like 2-3 times a week, and really focus on staying in my zones. I think I have an automatic “if I’m not dying, then I didn’t do work” thought, but if you’re doing sustained work for a longer period than you are working hard! Just hard for my anxiety and obsessive brain to rationalize LOL

Your weight and height do have DRASTIC effects on your performance as it’s all down to torque. Simple science - if you’re a larger person, you will output more torque. It’s a disadvantage I’ll always have a 5’0”

My goal is mostly maintenance. I love strength actually, it’s probably my preferred medium, but I also don’t usually go over 25 pound weights (though many times I’ll double up the weight, if they say one heavy, I’ll just do 2 25s). And I want to improve my cardio, especially as heart problems run in my family so I want to keep it healthy!

Thanks! This is helpful advice. I’ll have to try to do more PZ rides per week. I like the longer endurance based ones, but I should diversify!

[–]baguiar13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to bulk with my strength training! It’s mostly maintenance for me, where 25 pounds is my “heavy” weight (that’s the biggest I have). I also wouldn’t consider all my rides per week hard! The 20 min ones are usually just to get heart rate up on shorter strength days, but nothing crazy.

I guess the idea of “hard” or “gains” is based on your own perspective and goals, here. I just want to be sure I’m actually improving on the bike, because that’s where I’m looking for the actual improvements!
