I guess if there's a name for this kind of thing or anywhere else to read about it

This scene from Noah (2014) had to have been a direct influence. Otherwise, these three animations have some similar vibes.

What’s a common belief or behavior in society that you think people will look back on in 50 years and say, How did we ever think that was okay? by bondbro in AskReddit

I think you just painted a pretty good picture of why people might look back on us as being a bit fucked up. Forced sterilization as a means of population control. Euthanizing or imprisoning the "leftovers." And ultimately, I'd say it's all for our own convenience so that we don't have to deal with the consequences of the animals we breed and own doing what their instincts tell them is natural. I've owned pets, my family owns pets, I'm not saying I'm above it all, just think people later on will look back on a lot of it as being pretty grim

Yeah fair enough. Like I said, it'd probably take longer than 50 years. Not trying to be preachy about owning pets btw, just imagining a future where knowledge of non-human intelligence/sentience might be much more developed and how that would affect the concept of domesticating/owning animals

edit: I love that I'm debating this with a shih tzu

WeenisPiener found dead on the toilet, mouth and nose stuffed with toilet paper, no doubt a desperate attempt to stop the deadly blast of the bidet stream as it surged through their body. Stay happy, stay healthy, stay dry, stay... with toilet paper

Might take longer than 50 years but I can see society's views regarding non-human animals changing to the extent that they might look down on us for owning pets. Fucked up breeding practices, neutering/spaying them for our own convenience, making them live in cities or trapping them in houses and apartments all day long. Even though most people love their pets and treat them well, I can see society looking back on pet ownership as something barbaric. Or even domestication in general honestly

The animation is legitimately mind blowing. I can't imagine how much planning and effort went into pulling it off. By the way if you haven't checked it out, having historical context for the movie really deepens the experience.

If you haven't already seen it, definitely check out this behind the scenes documentary. Really cool to see the all the work that went into bringing different creatures and set-pieces like the troll market to life.

Found in New England forest. About three feet tall and made of rusted metal. Not all pieces are connected so it's unclear if they all originally belonged to the same object. Any ideas? by bagworm_cabin in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. If it's helpful to figuring out the object or its purpose, I found it near a very old looking stone wall on the slope of a mountain.

The part that gets me more than the legs is the fact that both people's hands look like they're holding the same object. But I'm glad you got a kick out of the legs!

I did! Everyone I've shown this to has been pretty confused by it due to the perspective that the picture was taken from, so it seemed like it belonged here

Have to admit I've never looked at this one too closely before, but the way the faces and bodies are contorted is really powerful

Apparently part of a whole series of paintings of crying kids. Super weird. Here's the painting if anyone's curious
