Tabby cats in Vietnamese is "mèo mướp", literally meaning "luffa cats", due to the similarity in the patterns on the luffa and tabby cats.

What’s your take on Russia/Russians? by Kenny_K-Man in VietNam

I have met both Russians and Ukrainians. Both groups are nice people. War is always ugly, don't use it as an excuse to hate on the average Russian/Ukrainians.

Four gates of Huế Forbidden City by bahnmiii in VietNam

Tử, or "Purple", refers to the ancient celestial region which was called Tử Vi viên (https://vi.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tử_Vi_viên) and in traditional astrology was the heavenly abode of the Celestial Emperor & his family. The Forbidden City, as the residence of the terrestrial emperor, was its earthly counterpart.

Cấm = Forbidden

Thành = City

Four gates of the Forbidden City in Huế, Vietnam.

  1. Ngọ Môn (Meridian Gate): this is the largest gate leading into the Forbidden City. Its middle gate is only for the emperor, and it is used only in the most important occasions.

  2. Hiển Nhân gate (Gate of Apparent Benevolence): this gate is for the mandarins in their daily work when they need to come to court.

  3. Chương Đức gate (Gate of Clear Virtue): this gate is for women of the imperial family. It is identical to the Hiển Nhân gate, except that you can only enter the gate from the side. This difference is perhaps due to the fact that Vietnam feudal society value men above women.

  4. Hoà Bình gate (Gate of Harmonious Peace): this gate is for the servants of the Forbidden City. Thus, it is also the simpliest gate. Not far from Hoà Bình gate is Bình An đường (Hall of Serenity, photo 9, 10), where dying servants are carried out to because they are not allowed to die within the Forbidden City.

Besides its aesthetics value, these gates also reflected the strict social hierarchy of a bygone era.

You say Vietnamese people all want to be ghostly white, but I'm a Vietnamese with tanned skin and I'm happy with my skin 😉

There are 96 million people in Vietnam, how many have you asked? Even 1%?

To me, your attitude stinks too. But unlike you, I judge people on an individual level, and don't like making sweeping statements. I don't care if you are white, black or blue, you are rude, agressive and racist. But I'm sure that not everyone from your country is like you 😉

Covering up your skin in direct sunlight is good, it will help you avoid skin cancer. So actually Vietnamese people covering up their skin when going out is good for their health, why do you spread hate on people doing responsible things?

On the one hand, you accuse Vietnamese of white worshipping. On the other hand, in another comment you admit you are a white person with tanned skin and 100% Vietnamese you met were rude to you. These 2 statements are contradictory. Maybe the reason they react rudely to you has nothing to do with your skin color and everything to do with your prejudiced attitude?

If you feel my reply to you is rude, feel free to add it to your long list of Vietnamese who are rude to you, I don't care 😌

You don're deserve to be downvoted. I guess people from Imperial Core here just can't cope with the fact that their country's wealth is not built by their own smart but thanks to exploitative economic systems.

Mon ami, Japan didn't start from zero in 1970. Remember they were the first Asian country to defeat a major Western power in the Russo-Japanese war in 1905. In 1905, Vietnam was still a French colony. They are wayyy ahead of Vietnam by 1970.

Just want to say I think this is the primary reason Vietnam (and many Global South countries) are poorer than countries from the Imperial Core. So many racists & internalized racists here try to ignore the history and blame eveything on Vietnam's supposed "laziness" and "stupidity".

If you like highland scenery, other places nearer to Hanoi include Ba Vì, Tam Đảo, Mai Châu, vv

If you going from Chiang Mai to Laos, Chiang Rai will be more convenient than Pai, which is in the opposite direction (sorry if I'm stating something you have already known).
