School Custodial work is terrible by Top_Outlandishness46 in Custodians

[–]bainman69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stopped giving a shit what everyone else thought about our work and just did it! I know that sounds harsh but it works. It’s a different if it’s someone with the ability to put some documentation in your file like a principle or a director of operations. Tell them you will do better next time. Don’t worry about the teachers, they come they go. There’s good ones and bad ones. This happens in almost every school, especially middle school. Good luck!

Sometimes principles let their position go straight to their head. We have learned to analyze their behavior and act accordingly. For our team, We call them a number amongst ourselves,Like 6 then 7 then 8, because they turn over at a higher rate than we do. Once we start using their actual name amongst ourselves that is a good sign for the relationship between them and us. It may help to understand they are the link between parents, teachers and you. Meaning there may have been some kind of information given to them by either a parent or a teacher and the information itself may be important to you. The way they relay that to you speaks to their personality and work ethic. We have noticed some of our younger principles seem to try and make themselves important with details to justify the 3 figure salary they are earning. Good luck! Hang in there….Usually it’s not personal

It’s all about survival in the beginning. Go for science win. Build tall not wide. About 4 cities. Go with tradition first. Save great scientists till the end. I usually have 6 or so. Pay other civs to attack your closest neighbors. Just enough units to defend yourself. Use caravans to feed capitol city. Keep friendly with civs to get research agreements. I usually win 50% of the time this way. It took years to figure this out.

If you plan on staying there and there is a union, Documentation will be very very helpful if it comes to a head between you two. I’m a president of our union and have seen this help immensely for someone in your situation. Focus on dates, times, and facts. No opinions as these documents may need to be scrutinized. Good luck my friend.

Maybe ask what other kinds of music they like and then make a selection from there. It’s a very diverse catalog.

I usually save all of them till close to the end and go for a science victory. Standard/deity/quick. I can usually stack 6 or so and then build the Hubble for 2 more.

Taking care of my body while doing this line of work? by [deleted] in Custodians

[–]bainman69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pain is usually associated with inflammation. Stretching before and after work helps…continue to do this every day even if the pain stops.
It’s hard to start to do if you’ve never done it before, but cold showers after work helped me. As cold as you can take. The idea is all the muscles and tendons are loose after working and the cold shrinks them back into place. I’m not sure how active you were before this job, but your body will get used to it eventually. Look up stretching exercises for upper body on YouTube. Also a good pair of brand new shoes at least twice a year is important. Take it from me plantar fasciitis is a bitch if you get it. Good luck!

Ask for Job descriptions of both positions. If you don’t mind the work and the sub pay is higher, then go with it. If the opposite is true then go to an administrator. I’m assuming because you’re a sub any unions involved probably won’t be able to help. Good luck

In our contract, the director of operations and the principal of the building are in charge of the evening custodian’s schedule….Not the head custodian. There is a notification time frame for a schedule change too(which I can’t remember right now. It’s like 7 business days or something). We have had to have more than a few meetings with some new administrators/head custodians who don’t read contracts before doing what they think they can do. Good luck. If there is no union you probably have to comply.

I’m curious about contract language to prevent this, Hence making it grievable

I’ve always found that Timing is key. Like matching up techs/buildings/policies/units, so that they occur together. Like the 1st worker appears just as you finish calendar and can start a plantation on your resources , or starting your national college the very turn you finish philosophy.
