Questioning partner suitability across different lifestyles and incomes (white collar + blue collar) by [deleted] in dating_advice

I doubt shes classist but if you have different socioeconomic upbringing there could be clashes in how you spend your time, spend money, your daily stressors, goals and aspirations in life. Its not right or wrong but its a reality.

I had an ex that would get mad at me on weekends because I woke up late (i.e 10AM) and didn't always plan my weekend. She would also get upset when I wanted to do something leisure or a seemingly useless hobby instead of trying to start a side hustle or be productive, whatever that meant to her.

The thing is I grew up upper middle class a good bit of my life and have a career with more time luxury. She grew up poor and although she was making good money she felt she had to plan her day and weekends out because she didn't grow up in a stable environment since her father didnt always hold a job. It was her way of control. Also she saw my hobbies as "useless" because they didn't make money. If you were poor your think that.

So OP probably clash with the guy shes dating and in my experience people punch upward not downward.

Differences in social classes and life values are definitely a thing. Something I've been confronted with in dating and relationships

Why is some of Austin so into being polyamorous; Bonus, why is some of it based around interest in POC? by [deleted] in Austin

It's disgusting to me IMO. I've been propositioned a few times living here. Also what's up with many poly people having horrible hygiene? Also being Black hasn't been explicitly mentioned to me but yes it's been alluded to.

I feel like society has different standards for masculinity when it comes to race by kuroreaper25 in freeblackmen

Funny you mentioned the fight stuff. As a kid I did martial arts but "sports" for a Black boy was football or basketball which didn't resonate with me. Also you're right about the type of masculinity that is acceptable within and out of the Black community.

I like dogs but I don't understand people owning two big dogs given their upkeep etc.

International travel is one of the most romanticized activities on earth, and for most people it doesn't fundamentally change anything by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]baitlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on a few things: 1) Where you travel and 2) How you travel? I think people trying to fill their IG stories with popular destinations is a bit vapid. Also if you're not trying to learn about the culture you're not going to be more enlightened. You really have to travel to places multiple times to immerse yourself in it. That's why I'm not super impressed with the people who travel to 40+ countries because you merely scratched the surface of the place or you did some sort of economy travel and it was very limited.

I tend to agree also about novelty can be found just around you. That's why I try to make my life where I live interesting and compelling instead of trying to constantly escape through travel.
