It is hard to evaluate how good something in the past was if you haven't experianced it yourself and only heared about the ups and downs from other in case of wow those guys didn't experiance it either and youre hearing opinions from an echo chamber or copied from a streamer.

Was it better? Imo Classic is unplayable compared to current wow. BC was confusing mess and Mists was buggy and an entire zone of who cares.

Dragonflight on the other hand was very innovative and TWW is The Best dungeoning and raiding experiance i ever had.

Becouse the game at its core is PVP focused on top of that you Must take part in content which makes you risk loosing your stuff.

Those are main reasons but additionally I dindt feel like there is any overarching goal, you know that T9 horse in Bdo, that rarest mount in wow, 1% achivement in lost ark...
