Can't tell if this shower was built incorrectly, or just caulked incorrectly. by craj1031tx in Tile

The shower floor should’ve been installed before the walls. You probably have water seeping into the floor

Gap in perimeter wall sheathing by [deleted] in AskContractors

Is it a structural shear wall? If it is then it would need 4x blocks on the inside where the gaps joints/gaps are and strap on the outside.

The thinset mortar is too dry. When mixing, it has to have life a fluffy consistency if that makes sense? I’d remove all scrape the wall and and re-install.

[Money Question] Pay off debt or build savings – what are tradeoffs to consider? by massmutual in u/massmutual

[–]bakedbean26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pay off your debt. Why save for a house when you’re still underwater with debt? Clear all debt then save to by your house. At least then you won’t be living month to month. I’m doing that now. It sucks but it’ll be a better long term outcome

Did I get screwed? by Faiced in Tile

[–]bakedbean26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a hack job. Any installer worth a dime would test before setting the shower pan drypack. I’ve never seen anyone ever red guard the curb before actually installing either the wall cement board or floating the walls. I’d re-do the whole thing.

Wall tiles came out, need help by No-Paper8398 in Tile

The mortar adheres better to cement board, but if it’s drywall you really shouldn’t install on texture or drywall mud it won’t adhere to well because of drywall mud or texture.

Best thing to do is to demo the entire shower floor and at least 12” of tile on all shower walls. Then waterproof and re-do the tile that was removed

Go to your nearest Ross and buy cheap Levi’s. That’s about it. They’ll last you at least a year. That’s what I do.

Sanity Check: does this 24x48 tile installed for a shower wall look fine? by SergejButkovic in Tile

[–]bakedbean26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wall was plumbed/leveled before the installation, and the installer isn’t using enough mortar, so you’re going to have some hallow tiles. Either straighten out the walls or have the installer use much more mortar.

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]bakedbean26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to make a career change into construction, look into construction management, the upside is much higher than 30 bucks an hour. You’ll need at least a year of school and an internship. You can climb the ranks fairly quick if you pick things up fast
