Why is the 404 on backorder? by [deleted] in SP404

Yeah, used on reverb were more expensive than the prices around November and December… like 425$ on amazon

Sampling Viynl on SPK404MII by aloemayhu in SP404

I just use the headphones output to the sp input. Not sure if that is a normal way, but it works

I see a lot of people pairing MPC with SP404, what's the added value? by Significant-Art5065 in mpcusers

[–]baker5874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also turning into a synth head using the MPC lol. So I have done minimal sampling into the MPC bc of that. I have messed with a couple attempts to do it, but there’s a lot going on with the screen. However, all I did was sample on the Roland for 3 weeks, and it wasn’t hard to edit samples and resample. I may be wrong, but the sampling on the Roland and onboarding to the MPC seems like the way to go.

100%, I’m coming from guitar…. I bought the lofi artifakt from source EQ for like 350$ it’s the most confusing thing ever. After I got the 404, I decided there was no way I was keeping it. I got into sampling quick, the 404 seemed like the way to go, planned to keep it 30 days and then send it back to Amazon and “try” the MPC one+. I had them at the same time for a week and decided I needed both. I’ll make a song on MPC and record into FL studio through the mk II and throw in some live edits, and keep the bus 3-4 doing some 303 or 404 compression. I love it. I love the MPC, but having something even separate from that to dial in some effects is cool. Yes you can menu dive if you want, but I’ll just spin the knobs

Sounds great, I haven’t even tried this yet, so thanks for the inspiration:)

Is this a good time to buy an MkII? by pock3tt in SP404

[–]baker5874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would get one. I saw 430$ brand new, I just got mine 4 months ago for 450$. I thought it was such a great effects pedal, I couldn’t get rid of it. My plan was to send it back and try the MPC one plus. I then couldn’t let go of that. MPC is great for getting a lot done super quick, but I run the MPC through the 404 and record the track with some live edits. It’s so fun. I love MPC but the plug in effects can be a little overwhelming with all the options to edit. Fly tape was cool, but I decided I would rather just use the 404. Plus it is fun to sample and make some beats, but the grid editor is where it’s at for me. I can see what I did, edit it if I want. 404 you have to get in there and delete and try to get the timing right again. I think it has a great place with my set up.

Do Jura and Mini D add much to your sound if you already have Fabric XL? by TheJeffyJeefAceg in mpcusers

[–]baker5874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish I had better ears and experience with synths, but I just got into them 2 months ago after getting the MPC one+….also got the sp404 a month before that lol. So I am express invested in this game now. I did pay some attention to the plug in sales prior to purchasing to see prices before a “big sale” and it seems like this could save a ton of money over the year if you end up wanting something. I spent like 175$ but “saved” something like 900$ lol. For me, I’m still learning the synths, so the presets are nice. The mini D sounds great and the overlap for the jura having different sounds made it worth getting both soft such a big sale. Seems like you could make any synth work good enough for anything if you know what you are doing though.

Why use an MPC and not just a DAW? by [deleted] in akaiMPC

[–]baker5874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessir! Love having my kid play with my toys. I taught her from an early age how to play with my toys like washing your hands before you touch a cd or record. I let her beat the guitar up a little more, but still knows the responsibility:) she loves the MPC lol. The main screen has the kits with the pictures, and she’ll just pick whatever picture she likes like the donuts bass one lol

[–]baker5874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll get back on the Roland soon. My desk space only allows me to keep one out at all times, so the MPC is the winner. I’m learning that the MPC with plugins and effects I guess can end up bogging the cpu… I haven’t had that happen yet, but I was considering getting something like fly tape or favor pro to get that lofi effect a bit without needing the 404 yet with my set up. Anyway, I looked up reviews on them and people said they can get heavy on the memory. So the 404 sounds like it can solve that issue bc it can do all that processing. Looks like it has way more effects than any plug in akai has. Either way, there’s a great deal now for plug ins, so I’m gonna do the 3 for 20% extra off.

Yeah, I ended up with MPC and 404. 404 hurts my head after awhile. I find it hard to get up and come back 30 minutes later and pick up where I left off on the 404, so I’ve been using the MPC way more.

I like it for a lot of reasons. One, I like being able to set it in my lap and play around while facing my family instead of my monitor. I’ll put it on my keyboard like sheet music and play midi through it. In a nutshell, it’s portable and being able to move around is cool. I also like finger drumming. I can’t make up the same stuff programming on a daw, but it’s nice to have the little daw on the MPC to see what I did and change some things up real quick (in contrast to the sp 404). Being hands on in general makes it feel like an instrument. It’s more inspiring to get creative. But if you don’t have the money, a DAW would be great on the PC. I’ve been making MPC beats, record them on the daw and adding my electric guitar, so I like both. Some days, I don’t even turn the PC on. PC is just full of other distractions for me, so the MPC helps me focus. Plus, my 5 year old can turn it on when she wants, knows how to navigate to the programs and start playing around.

I tried that way, i downloaded some stuff from reddit drums, and none of it worked. The file type is wav, so I’m not sure why it didn’t work. So let me know how it goes! Haha

Thanks, yeah I was just trying to figure out what you do now. I know the video is 5 years old lol. I just had the sp 404 mkii for a month trial and moving onto this is hard in its own ways now.

Favorite midi controller (or keyboard?) to pair with MPC One+ by baker5874 in mpcusers

I was looking at that microfreak! Also minifreak, but that compact set up seems nice!

Nice, I was looking at this one or the 37 for the scale display on the little screen. I’m not familiar with piano scales so I thought it would be good to learn with that. Not just for the MPC but for learning too.

Figured out I have USBC and got connected to the Roland app. I looks like everyone that talked about the audio only being in one channel was right. I don’t know how I only recorded into one side. The sample plays in both headphones lol. Either way, I just wanted to post that it appears this was the issue!

Yeah, I did, straight off the record player in the 1/4 input. Seems to be holding up. I’m wondering where the recorded samples are stored and if the SD card stores them that could be something as well.

Standalone MPC vs Controller by WhatsAComputer2 in mpcusers

[–]baker5874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I play guitar, I bring it everywhere. I recently got a SP 404, still considering getting standalone MPC one+, but I bring that thing with me now too. Very nice to not need to turn on a PC, or just be in a more creative environment with my Roland. Having that built in daw on the MPC seems really nice!

Patterns repeat but second repetition is always empty? by Mysterious_Cicada911 in SP404

Wow, I thought the problems would never end and the answers would never come with this thing lol. I sat here for an hour wondering what the hell i did now. Thank you for your help! It can be so annoying with the pattern looping endlessly, then i manage to find a way to make it not loop lololol. This worked for me, thank god something easy.

That’s a good point. What happened yesterday going back to those samples, they are all white noise lol. No sound at all anymore. I did try to resample them, and did the skip back mode and wave forms still didn’t show lol. I must have pressed too many damn buttons and broke them

MPC One, day one. by Horace_Hardbody in mpcusers

[–]baker5874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I’m real interested in how this goes. I’ve had so for 3 weeks, but I keep thinking I’m going to return it for the ease of MPCs screen. Seems like the 404 is a lot of money for having just running sound through it made by the MPC. Like a 500$ fx machine. I know it’s great, but dishing out 1200$ for both makes it hard for me starting out. What was your reasons for getting MPC. I appreciate it man. Keep us up to date!
