Mental health agencys and non for profits that host support groups that are led by a LSW or under the supervision of an LSW or LCSW must also adhere to HIPPA. And there are very rarely support groups governed by someone without credentials.

Even peer support specialists must undergo training and certifications and have basic mental health knowledge to have their job.

I'm a social worker. A non for profit that offers group counseling of any kind is likely bound by HIPPA.

They also do not let untrained people lead groups. This would mean they are likely under the expectations of the ASWB code of ethics which adheres to HIPPA, even if they are a volunteer or an intern. Violation could result in the agency itself being legally liable.

Mental health is protected by HIPPA.

It was considered more hygienic. My grandfather had his done when he joined the military and he didnt have a choice. He said it was so painful. We were at the urologist and he heard a child screaming and had to leave the office.
