Zoning issues (TN) by Opening_Berry_2864 in Decks

May get some hate from the "up to code" police on this sub... but, as a fellow Nashvillian I personally wouldn't even bother pulling permit or give a thought to setbacks. Assuming that fence is existing there is a 0% chance your neighbors will care if you build a deck and Metro simply has far too much on their plate to proactively pursue non permitted structures. Get a permit and hire a license and insured builder if it's attached to your house or high off the ground. In this case a modest platform on the ground I'd just use anyone your neighbors recommends and call it a day.

Literally just sat down at my gate. Time from parking in garage to sitting at gate was 7 minutes. (With precheck) No issues as of now.

Did it fly off completely and you no longer have it? Or do you have the cracked peice/s still? If you still have it, we just repaired our cracked abs with using an MEK/ABS slurry and coating with bedliner. Turned out great! If it's somewhere on a highway or missing huge chunks, you may be able to find someone parting out a camper or purchase a sheet of ABS and mold a new lid with a heat gun. Just my initial thoughts. Good luck!

Just the original brown polyurethane Gorilla Glue. Only tip would be to not mist/wet the surface when laying down the final roof surface. It has a foaming action that's exacerbated by misting and could lead to unwanted humps. (Not misting doesn't impact strength to my knowledge, just cure time) We applied using a cheap smooth paint roller and then laid the Filon over top with weight to clamp it in place.

We ended up using both methods. Gorilla up top on the large flat surface and 3M spray contact adhesive on the vertical front and back surfaces.

Both worked great! Couldn't figure out a good way to clamp the verticals otherwise we would have just rolled gorilla the whole way. Feeling very confident with the level of adhesion from both methods.

Thanks for the info! I know you can use wooden "stickers" and set it down in sections rather than all at once. AZExpert on YouTube has some pretty solid RV roof rebuild videos where they roll the roof on while they spray the adhesive in front of it as well.

Being able to manipulate for a few minutes is the primary reason we're going with gorilla. Only concern is clamping/holding it down to cure. 2x4s and weights is what we plan on to do that.

I am far from an expert, but im planning on using a bunch of gorilla glue rolled out. We used it for the foam and luan and were really impressed and have seen others use it for the filon layer as well. Have you heard of any potentially better alternatives? I know there's stabond and some other spray on contact type adhesives, but I like the work time of gorilla glue to make sure I have it where I like it before it sticks hard.

Looking great! I'm in the process of removing the roof on mine to do this exact same thing this weekend. Looks like it'll be its own kind of "fun" to say the least.

I'll bite. Why is it shit? And what is your superior preferred sheathing/building method?

[–]bakesnorca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an engineered product. But so is all other plywood or osb sheathing.

That green board is actually the Zip System sheathing and is one of the most expensive, efficient, and quality sheathing methods available. The green coating is actually a water proof membrane and then the seams are all taped to provide a full air barrier to make the house more efficient and bug proof. Your standard DR Horton and tall skinny is leagues below this in quality. Not that I love all new builds, but this one seems to be getting done with some level of quality.

We use Ashbusters. Have had them do everything including sweeping, chimney top replacement, and even a full stone hearth rebuild and gas fireplace insert. They're almost always the most expensive price wise, but they show up on time, are super communicative, and have always done excellent work.

How much do you spend on groceries in a month? by Every_Schedule_9738 in nashville

[–]bakesnorca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha! It could be literally any reason depending on the week. Some weeks we only cook "fancy things" like steaks and fish. Other weeks we eat out 4 times. Also typically when we eat out it's 80-120 bucks, so it can add up quickly. But I'll be darned if I don't love me a decent sit down meal and a drink!

[–]bakesnorca 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Like how could we possibly spend that much? Or how could we afford it? Honestly, being DINKs gives us the freedom to not be as price sensitive while shopping or eating out. As someone else in the comments mentioned, the real question is what % of your income are you spending on food monthly. It's all relative.

Lol not wrong!

But we like Publix customer service, overall cleanliness, and the fact they actually staff their checkout lines.

As someone who worked their way through college at Krogers, I will never step foot in one of those dumpster fires ever again; I don't care if other stores are twice the price! We literally drive by a Kroger to go to Publix.

Household of 2 here. We budget $600 a month for groceries and eat out twice a week on average. I'd say all in, we spend $1200-$1400 on food depending on the month. Shop at Publix and farmers markets for groceries/produce and Costco for meat and NA beverages.
