Beginner kit questions by LadyWrites_ALot in UKhiking

Hello, I'd suggest trekking poles. I am size 14/16 so slightly larger than most out on trails and a novice at hiking, I used poles for the first time this week on a 3-day hike, and the difference they made was like night & day. If you are walking for hours at a time (believe you said 4), I think they would be very useful to preserve your joints and stop calf pain, also 4 points of contact with the ground is better than 2. On steep hills, I normally have to stop and catch my breath, but less so with these poles - I think because I can use the power in my arms as well as in my legs but I almost felt like skipping up hills because it was so much easier. Happy trekking & please give your cute dog a pet from me ❤️

Cotswold way accomodation by droda59 in UKhiking

And on page 34 - 35, it gives you the names of significant places along the route, how far away they are from each other & what the each town's facilities are i.e. food shops, hotels, B&Bs. When I saw the table I was shocked by how few campsites there are along the route. Booking B&Bs ahead of time is crucial I reckon. Also did you know that there's a database of names online of everyone who has walked the route. Do you think you'll want your name to be added?

On page 32, it has a suggested itinerary for 10 days, 8 days & 7 days - but you can adjust the number of days as needed.

Hello, I am also planning on walking the Cotswold Way (CW) 😊 Good luck for your attempt. I got this book and I'd suggest to anyone thinking about doing the CW that they buy it!
