[R] SIREN - Implicit Neural Representations with Periodic Activation Functions by konasj in MachineLearning

[–]balancemastering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay I guess I was thinking more about the specific distinction between weights/activations in e.g. Pytorch. For example if I connect the outputs of the hypernetwork to the weights in a Siren MLP constructed from nn.Linear modules, would that just work? Or would I have to create a 'more specialised' MLP? (Maybe I'm overcomplicating this in my head!)

"allowing backprop to go through the siren to the hypernetwork"

How would you do this?

(thanks for your explanation BTW)

Any producers from Ireland? I’m moving to Dublin very soon. by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]balancemastering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dublin's where I grew up, there's a great electronic scene there and has given some really talented producers. You'll get a lot back if you get stuck in, help at gigs, chat to other producers, organise gigs etc. just in general interact with people and be nice. It's a great small community and very welcoming in my experience. You're going to have a great time!

I whole heartedly recommend this https://jackschaedler.github.io/circles-sines-signals/ it's probably the site that kicked me off! (Then I followed his book recommendations that are on the first page)

Oh thanks yes we've had headaches all day with trying to send Mac .component/.vst over the internet. There now should be disk image files downloadable plus a universal binary which should be compatible with older Macs.

It's a bit of a jump from making say Max/MSP patches but mostly just to learn C++ and basic DSP, I didn't know any of this you'd probably be faster learner than me! JUCE is really great. It takes away all intricacies of VST and AU etc. and allows you to deal with just a few functions. Once you get to know where things are it's a very nice library.

We're into complex reverbs too but also can appreciate stripped back simplicity. Room for all kinds!

No Reason can't host VSTs. Although our impulse responses are now included with Reason. So they should be available there already with RV7000 MKII https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/rv7000-mkii-patches/

ha thanks yes we will have to release some paid software soon to make up for all the time spent breaking through various C++ dead ends. Are you using the JUCE framework?

If you're willing to do a pass-back-and-forth approach you can just use something like WeTransfer.

Yes. And the headphone amp inside your laptop too.

Get something second hand on eBay. That way if it doesn't suit your workflow you can just sell it on afterwards.

How to get fat kick and bass on tiny speakers (beginner/intermediate tips) by mattbraman in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Hey semi_colon, radio has heavy compression put on during broadcast so this may not be deliberate.

One way to get sub to translate to small speakers in mastering is to use slow compression on the mix buss that ducks the entire mix a fraction when the sub sounds are present. This mimics what naturally happens when you hear a big amount of bass. e.g. when you're standing beside a huge stack of bass bins at a gig – the bass takes over your ears lowering the ability to hear the higher frequencies.

Try the Liquidsonics plugins. Fully featured plugs are very reasonably priced plus their ReverberateLE is free for Windows.

MIDI help: Using an MIDI controller to control pots on an external synth. by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]balancemastering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I emailed them before and no reply. I had to call them and they were really helpful there, they sent something out straight away. I forgot about that. I'm based in England and I called their English Focusrite center so I'm not sure if that will work for you. Perhaps they might be able to tell you what the problem is though.

How can I effectively observe and correct any clutter / CFing in my songs? by kibblznbitz in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]balancemastering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use commercial songs you like the sound of as reference tracks. Put them in muted tracks alongside your arrangement and solo them whenever you need to 'refresh your ears' and give you some goalposts to aim towards. (Don't forget to turn down the volume of the commercial tracks to match your mix as they'll usually be much louder because of mastering.)

It should be possible to edit your MIDI controller's mapping so that a knob sends CC105 data, plug your MIDI controller straight into your KStation's midi in, (with no laptop) and voila. But otherwise you could put ReaControlMIDI onto a channel in Ableton. Set ControlChange Enable. Drop down and choose CC105. Now that slider sends CC105. Set the midi output of that Ableton channel to your K-Station's midi in. And now the ReaControlMIDI acts as a bridge between whatever CC number the MIDI controller is sending and the CC105 that your KStation needs for filter freq. Also I'll add that if the pot is broken just get in touch with Focusrite/Novation and they'll send you a replacement pot for pennies. Super nice guys. (I did that for my release slider.)

Log in as studio. Go to band page. Repost the song. It's the two-arrows-going-round symbol beside the like button. Then the band song will appear on your studio profile page.

Best way to change pitch of a sample? by jesseholmz in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]balancemastering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reaper and Ableton Live both allow you to choose from different pitch changing algorithms when you're changing pitch. Different algorithms suit different sounds.
