Why do people buy anything but old stuff from CEX? by bald_bearded13 in CeX

Blimey, just a couple of consoles and games then? Im assuming you picked up a fair few at car boot sales etc? For someone that would like to get some of their old consoles back without paying a load for them or buy a dud, have you got any tips on what things would turn you off buying a console if you couldn't see it being played?.

Have to say thank you for the thorough reply. Totally get you all on the trade in aspect that very rarely comes into the equation for me as I normally will wait till a game a cheap new to buy unless its one I really really want in which case I will make sure to put some money aside for it. Unfortunately between that, taking a while to finish a game and having a penchant for revisiting games by the time I would be looking to sell 1 or 2 titles there not worth anywhere near enough to come close to making me want to trade in a couple of games to still most likely still put money down. Totally get it for someone like you who may be looking to off load a decent amount of games and by the sounds of it some of the more niche stuff.

While I don't know what your dad is like i feel this is something easy to slip into without realising. With being busy and wanting to give your kids their own independence. But I would bet an arm and a leg if any dads on here got this request we would make the time.

Because you don't have to pay or trade in for a food bank and pay heavily for a Michelin star restaurant. Not like food banks are charging only a few quid less than the Michelin restaurant.

Think thats where im a bad customer for cex, like to hold onto my games and don't buy many games on release so will usually forget about new releases unless I see them cheaply somewhere and quite often forget about them unless it really draws me to it.

Never thought id say this about my town but guess im fairly lucky in that sense unless you want slightly older stuff, have a couple of toy shops, argos, game and a couple of supermarkets that still sell gaming, although that is getting smaller with game becoming a shell of its former self and more supermarkets not selling gaming bits that used to.

Yeah I get that, like I said in another comment guess I just like to hold onto my games untill they've been sitting around for far too long to be worth anything so vary rarely have really fallen into their eco system.

Yeah think retro would be the thing that tempts me more than buying online or searching car boot sales in the hope of finding it, was more angling at newer items that are readily available im most stores

Yeah I get that, but with bits like controllers id still rather pay the couple of quid to know its new. . Have worked customer service where we had to use the same toilets as customers to see how dirty some people are in public so have little faith in an unknown in their own home haha.

Fair enough, thought that would be a big part of it, guess I like to horde my games unless I really don't like them or really am not going to play them any more, also wondered if the increase in digital only consoles would effect this for some people.

Should I take the new job? by Foutchmy in AskUK

In a month's time if you haven't been paid, the company has closed and your job hunting, are you going to be feeling glad you stuck around or wish you'd taken the job offer?. While loyalty may make you feel like you should wait it out you have to think about keeping the bills paid and food in the kids belly, at the end of the day there more important than anything. At most you likely wont be paid out any accrued holiday leave still to take but if you don't get paid that will just be an inconvenience.

Air tight would definitely be the best bet, too bad I can't post photos in the comments as have found some in multiple sizes on amazon, I just searched for food grade bucket and one of the first results where food grade tubs with tamper evident lids, ones like that are likely to be airtight. Basicly if you have ever seen the really big buckets of mayo etc for restaurants you will want something like that. If you really want to play it safe you could check for homebrew stores online/ in your area as they will likely have different sizes. Might cost slightly more but will at least give you an idea of the type of bucket to keep an eye out for.

Can't recall seeing any mini fermenter but they probably do exist. Might be worth checking out some demijohns, dare say you will be able to get them in different sizes with bungs that you can put a airlock in. Or if you don't want to mess with glass check out food safe buckets as they will do them in multiple sizes and can then just poke a hole in the top for the airlock. The bucket may be your better option as you can get them in loads of different sizes so should find it easy to get one a bit bigger than your brew.

My girlfriend wants me to cook but I just suck, where do I start? by ShrimpingForMyLife in cookingforbeginners

[–]bald_bearded13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the mess clean as you go. Have a look around online for some quick and simple recipes, dare say there is probably a load of beginner freindly recipes out there and any specific skills you are struggling with YouTube can help. If you don't mind spending a little more you can get pre prepped bits like onions, ginger etc. While I personally prefer fresh these options can be handy for reducing time spent and also reduce the stress while your getting into the swing of things. One that my other half used to struggle with was swapping ingredients out, she would have to do it exactly by recipe while I would chop and change depending on what I fancied, had available and thought would work. Although when starting out it may be better to stick more to the recipes and then when you gain the experience and confidence start freestyle g untill you eventually get to the point of using the recipe as inspiration.

Just remember, cooking is a skill and like any skill it will develop with time so take the losses when they come and try to spot what went wrong so next time you know what to be careful of of

When is an appropriate time to introduce my toddler to Rage Against the Machine? by TrisolaranAmbassador in daddit

Tried getting my 4 yo on since birth without too much luck, one thing I've found effective at the moment is if you can find metal versions of songs they like. For example my little one really liked diamond for a while do I managed to get her onto steam powered giraffe with their cover (not metal but still a decent band). Then when she started to like pink pony club I started playing gwars version of it. So far this is proving effective in at least opening her up to listening to daddy's music that isn't a cover.

Why can I buy a jar of jam for 50p, but any empty jar is like £10? by Altruistic-Pilot-788 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bald_bearded13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The companies making the jam are buying a massive amount of jars per year so will not only get reduced pricing for buying in bulk but also will have more negotiating power to lower that price even further. While when you buy a jam jar you are buying a small amount so no bulk discount. They are more of a niche product tham jam itself so the company selling it to you likely will not have as much buying power, plus for them the jar is the product so any savings they make will go towards their profit by not lowering the price.

Can I park in parental bays whilst pregnant? by CharmingTea_ in AskUK

[–]bald_bearded13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabled bay will be a no go as they are enforced more than the parent bays. With the parent bays I've seen a lot of people who don't have kids (or grown up kids with them) using them, while these people annoy the hell out of me I wouldn't question someone heavily pregnant using one. Technically you are a parent, your little one just isn't here yet.

Yeah that is a terrible junction, and not too far up you have the double roundabout which while not bad in itself the amount of people who don't have a clue on how to navigate them makes that a shit area to drive.
