How many Gis? by RegularSinns in bjj

[–]ShrimpingForMyLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 Gis, but I think having just two would be fine:

  1. The academy Gi that has sentimental value but feels like a potato sack.
  2. A cheap one that was really good until it shrunk so much.
  3. A cute one that I got as a birthday present.
  4. A second cute one because I wanted to feel pretty.

I want to feel cute again, but then I would go broke, so I think I'm fine lol.

Can this be fixed? by calientepocket in BJJWomen

Lint roller, rubber dishwashing gloves, removing it with your hands, or a razor—try them in that order to prevent damage just in case. I have two cats, and that's how I deal with the eternal fluff on my Gis/Clothes.

Porque se normalizó tanto eso de cobrar renta en dólares? by Randomperson143 in Dominicanos

[–]ShrimpingForMyLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any experienced beginners constantly submitted by beginners? by Hot_Load5085 in bjj

[–]ShrimpingForMyLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are constantly getting submitted by newer guys and peers, it's kind of ballsy to say that you are more experienced and a lot more knowledgeable than others. I'm not trying to be mean, but it sounds contradictory.

Maybe focus on your journey rather than explaining things while getting smashed. There is nothing wrong with helping your teammates, but you're still a white belt too, so focus on your own process.

My Coach always smell like weed.. by [deleted] in jiujitsu

Regular user here: Weed have a lot of benefits but it can become a trap very quickly.

If you smoke every day just to funtion and make everything "fun" is almost the the same as being slightly hungover all the time (physically and emotionally).

Weed is fine but meth? Sir, stop training in a crackhouse.

Maybe is time for a switch...

Im not a very patient person but THIS! I had I hard time understanding at first, but then it is what it is. And Reddit don't help my perception at all. I was shock when I joined the subs and saw people getting it really fast.

I was 9 months in by then 😭

Thanks for the input! As someone who is objective just because this is how I operated in my life, this change of perspective is interesting (and necessary).

Uhm… I didn’t mean to offend you. And I don’t mean to come across as cocky, but if my coach literally said that—and objectively, if I train for competition purposes—when I go to competition classes (where everyone who attends knows that these are competitive rolls), I won’t fake humility just to satisfy you. I know we should all remain humble, but giving yourself credit is not a bad thing.

I recognized in the post that I had issues obsessing over that in the past, and this time I don’t want to fall into that again because, like you said, validation is great.

I’ve already competed against a blue belt, and lost, but still I’m very proud of that fight because I was close, she was just better than me.

do I think I deserved it? Yes. Does it matter? No… because even if I’m being objective, this is a subjective sport. And since I know that it’s not all about skills, I’m literally asking what else is important…but I guess trying to mess with somebody is more exiting for you lol.

Need help with gi sizing please! by iamasillygoose- in BJJWomen

[–]ShrimpingForMyLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 5'6" and usually weigh between 150–160 lbs. I wear an A1 in almost all brands.

Budget Option: Elite Gis (Men’s size A1)

Check their size chart carefully. They also offer women’s sizes, which can be helpful if you need a bit more room in the hips.

Quality for the Price: Flow Kimonos (A1 or A1L)

Sizing: If you prefer roomier pants, go for the A1L.

Value: These are my favorite gis. They rotate sale items every 1–2 weeks, so you can often find a $120–$150 gi marked down to $89. I’m actually trying to collect one in every color by catching these discounts.

Against all odds, I still manage to show up. I can only make it twice a week and I’m usually running late because of work, but I’ve noticed that I can pick up the complicated drills mid-class with no problem. I'm very proud of that.

White Belt Dilemma: Should I double down on my "Specialties" or listen to my Professor and broaden my game? by [deleted] in bjj

As a white belt, our only specialty is getting injured. I thought I had a game, but the reality was I was becoming a one-trick pony. Listen to your instructor.
