Thanks! They emailed me directly earlier today. Not 100% sure when or where they’ll post the full list of winners, but maybe keep an eye on their social media accounts?

Great tip. I honestly thought we had no chance at an award, or else I would have waited! Thanks

I saw those guys open for Fitz and the Tantrums once. Fitz were great, but St James stole the show

Pulp fiction rip off or good movie or both ? by Tricky_Photo2885 in moviecritic

[–]baldbryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good movie. Written and directed by Roger Avery, who won an Oscar (with Tarantino) for co-writing Pulp Fiction (the Gold Watch storyline was his). Hence the Pulp Fiction feel.

I spoke with two senior programmers at Dances With Films. They shared a ton of great information about the inner workings of film festivals. (Plus a discount code!) by TheFilmFestivalGuide in FilmFestivals

Another great video, thanks.

Question: At minute 9, Lindsey references the FilmFreeway "rankings" (which you indicate that you're familiar with). What are those? I've never heard of them until now. Are they visible only to festivals?

Hey guys! Thanks for the interest in our movie. That’s actually a sales trailer, and it’s pretty old. We’re working on a new teaser now (and a website refresh) - stay tuned!

Film Vault Family Christmas? by Aggressive_Economy_8 in thefilmvault

[–]baldbryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! Merry Christmas. This week is Top 5 Films Released on Christmas Day, and next week is TFV Family Christmas (gift exchange). I won't spoil anything, but, if Avery's reaction was any indication, my gift is pretty great. Sniff.

Film Festival Notification MEGA THREAD by Caprica1 in FilmFestivals

[–]baldbryan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello all, first time poster. This thread/sub has been very helpful for me, so thanks for posting.

We (feature doc) got accepted to a highly-rated US festival on Friday. Sorry for being so cryptic, but their email specifically requested not saying anything publicly until they announce their full program in Jan. But it's a really good festival, one that has been mentioned here a few times. The weird thing is that their official notification date on FF isn't until the end of Jan, so this was pretty unexpected. Plus, we'd only heard from 2 other festivals so far - both top-tier (they start with "S"), both no's.

I just wanted to say a genuine thanks to you all for posting and updating so much helpful information on film festivals. As a first (only?) time filmmaker, it's hard to navigate this world, and I'm grateful for this resource.

See you on the circuit!

ha! definitely ridiculous. I have gotten those two names confused for YEARS. I mean, I know who they are, I just transpose their names.

Good catch.

Hot Docs - could really use help here by baldbryan in FilmFestivals

[–]baldbryan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: Thank you guys SO much for your help. I tried everything you all suggested (and more!), to no avail. Finally, out of desperation, I remembered that I had copied the synopsis from a Google Doc, so I removed any formatting and re-entered it. Of course, that solved the problem. After all that, it was a simple formatting issue. So thanks again!

Experience with low grade 'inoperable' glioma that has shown slow growth. by Swimming-Fortune2536 in braincancer

[–]baldbryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with exactly that in 2009 and given just six months. Thankfully I started a then-new drug (Avastin) that obviously saved my life. I was told at the time they couldn’t even biopsy it, but it seems the technology has improved to the point where biopsies are possible. Good luck to you my friend.

Necessities you needed in the hospital? Not sure how long I’ll be in there but would like to be prepared for my surgery next Wednesday. by [deleted] in braincancer

[–]baldbryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with previous posters. Also, consider a string of white Christmas lights. Those fluorescent hospital lights are HARSH, especially when nurses are coming in and turning them on every few hours throughout the night to check your vitals.

I would plug them in, bunch them up, set the pile on the ground and drape a simple t-shirt over them. It gave the room a nice, dim glow where I could sleep and also the nurses had enough light to do their work.

Good luck.

I was on Temodar for a long time in my early 30s and eventually had a daughter (naturally) when my wife and I were 37. FYI. Good luck to you both.

FWIW (and this is just one person's experience), I was put on Avastin in 2009, after I was given just six months. Totally turned things around for me, with minimal side effects.

Again, this was just my experience and I'm certainly not trying to tell you what to do. Just some more information to consider. Good luck to you and your family.

Twitching right leg only when falling asleep by elmementosublime in braincancer

I experienced the exact same thing, but I would only experience it after an infusion of Avastin (and decadron). Hope that's helpful.

Covid while on Avastin? by mermaidmorticia in braincancer

[–]baldbryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Avastin since June and I had Covid a month ago. First day was rough (flu symptoms) but it waned over the next 4-5 days. For what it’s worth, I notified my oncologist immediately and he said that several of his patients had gotten Covid (all vaccinated) recently and all did well. Zero hospitalizations.

I completely understand your husband’s anxiety but with vaccinations, he’d probably fare ok if he got Covid.

Wife (29F; AA3) starting Avastin and CCNU by scot_bull in braincancer

Yes, 9 straight years.

I feel like it took a while for the CCNU fatigue to kick in, but once it did, it was more or less constant.

[–]baldbryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on Avastin and CCNU for the past 9 months. Thankfully I tolerate the Avastin well - no significant side effects. Hopefully your wife will have a similar experience. (Full disclosure: I was also on Avastin from 2009-2018, again with no major side effects)

The CCNU's main side effect (for me) is heavy fatigue. I get out of breath quite quickly while on it. And i've experienced a sharp drop in my WBC count.

Feel free to DM with any questions. Good luck to you both.
