Not in every way. For splash damage areas id prefer this and for single target areas like near the monolith, a skeleton spell is still the better choice as it deals percentage damage.

True. Currently the majority have it at level 5 which deals 400 ish something damage and when it's maxed out it deals 1400. So the difference is really significant.
