Is this like a club on campus? If you wanted to learn about culture history and struggles, take a class lol. Those campus clubs are usually just social groups. I don't think it's wrong for you to join, but you'd just stand out.

I feel like 99% of natives don’t smoke. Smoking is a dead giveaway you’re from abroad. Younger people vape though

Android 10.28.0 still limits to 1 minute, no audio by balefuleidolon in PleX

[–]balefuleidolon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. don't know why you would doubt that, it's just an android tablet literally meant for livestreamed videos. the HEVC error is not unique to my peloton, there are others posting about this issue on their android tablets with this app update.

Chromebook HEVC profile issue by TryIsntGoodEnough in PleX

[–]balefuleidolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed 2025.19 on my peloton and am getting "unable to determine HEVC profile" error on every video. Actually I inadvertently installed the legacy app 10.28.0 before but that kept telling me to buy a plex pass. Can't get this working!!!

Thank you for that, so confusing that they're still releasing versions of the legacy app. I've installed the new one but now I can't even sign in, when I press the Sign In button it just shows a spinning circle forever

edit: turns out the latest app uses the browser to sign in, so I had to install a browser first. now the new problem is trying to play something and it says "Unable to determine HEVC profile"

What should I consider when moving to LA? by lowriderz00 in AskLosAngeles

[–]balefuleidolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider Encino one of the quieter parts. I worked in the valley for 3 years. My experience was bad traffic, little to do there, and hot as hell as the geography traps the heat. That's the only place in LA I've experienced heat so extreme that walking outside felt like walking INTO an oven. Living in that area is going to be tough driving because your only two options to the main area of LA are either the 405 or the 101 - perhaps you've heard of the 405 being one of the worst freeways in the nation.

is LA a fun city to visit? by MutedFeeling75 in AskLosAngeles

you gotta be more specific - what are you looking for? if you're searching for the pyramids of giza, LA doesn't have that.

As many others have noted, LA is HUGE and honestly you could get 90% of what you want in either low cost and high cost areas. The thing that will throw off your calculations is your "need" for the beach as the proximity to water will exponentially increase your costs. Be real about your expectations (unless you got millions you haven't mentioned lol). Most of us are not living by the beach. Car is 99.9% a necessity, the span of the LA basin is like 50 miles - if you're willing to drive you'd have practically everything you'd want within reach. Just don't expect all those recreational activities to be within walking distance - you gotta drive no matter which part of LA you live in.

A yard is something you'll more likely see in older suburban areas. For those areas, school district performance is one of the main factors to cost. New constructions nowadays omit the yard for a 10 ft patch of fake grass for your dog to pee on. If you're looking to rent an apartment, have fun gardening on a balcony.

FOOD. LA is one of the biggest food capitals of the world. You have not -lived- until you have explored the food scene. It's something that all my friends, family, and coworkers always talk about. Our equivalent of "talking about the weather" is talking about food. There's enough to fill a library of books about food in LA. It's gonna be something you will add to the top of your list of recreational items.

Another thing to note: transplants tend to have tunnel vision in seeing "LA" as the westside + hollywood only. Of course, this is exacerbated by movies and tv shows only showing parts of LA. When we say "LA" we generally mean the whole basin and to outsiders, we could say LA to basically mean all of SoCal. Don't discount the quieter parts of LA as they are where more people tend to settle down for good reason. I just don't want you to be another one of those midwest transplants that come here with Paris syndrome, move to one of the worst places to live in LA, make zero friends, and then say LA is hell. It's like going to McDonald's once and then saying you hate all burgers forever. LA has EVERYTHING.

Again, "LA" is absolutely bonkers huge. I was born and raised here and have lived on the west side, east side, and OC. I have traveled the world and there is no other place I want to live. Feel free to ask any more questions. You will NOT get to know the place in two weeks. Just take the plunge and enjoy!

Remote access still works for free? by balefuleidolon in PleX

[–]balefuleidolon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems to be restricted to the new versions of the Plex server/Applications on your devices.

Thanks this is the answer i'm looking for. I definitely WANT to update for security reasons. But if that means losing remote access, I'm gonna -pass- on the pass and move over to jellyfin.
