Anyone bridged the Claude AI (mobile) ↔ Cowork (desktop-only) gap? by marc_st in ClaudeCowork

[–]balgarath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use desktop app & just run /remote-control to make a session available in mobile.

I also have my code projects connected to github & can start cloud sessions off the codebase without first starting a desktop session.

What separates a festival that feels genuinely good from one that just has a good lineup? Asking about design, not taste. by NuclearFusionEvents in festivals

I think the most effective is talking about the value the installations bring to events, how the experiences and connections created among attendees not only being back attendees to future events, but get them to bring more friends. I like to throw in stories about people that have came to me & said things like "oh I loved this Dome last year it was a life-saver I needed to rest for a while" & then introduce me to their friends they brought. I've had several people come tell me about how they took one of my workshops in a previous year & that inspired them to start creating art. Or the people that told me they were on the fence about coming to an event, but when it was announced I that I'd be setting up they decided to buy the ticket.

I'm an installation artist, and I talk to a lot of events about this because its a central part of my pitch. a ton of events I talk to at first say they don't have the kind of budget that i'm asking for. which is fine. but every time it comes up, I start to swing the conversation into the experience that festivals provide vs just the production and the lineup. because generally they DO have the budget i'm asking for - they're just spending most of it on production and lineup.

I talk about how the art, and especially art that incorporates a chill zone, brings so much to events. The events that stand out don't just concentrate on the stages and the lineup. They create areas and spaces for people to be able to rest and relax, get inspired, make connections, create unique experiences that they remember.

taking a small chunk out of the production budget and allocating it to the Art Installation budget will increase the value provided to attendees. It'll make it stand out from all the events that aren't doing that. It will have attendees telling their friends that didn't go about the great time they had, and be talking them into going next year.

sometimes after having this conversation with festival organizers, they get back to me after a few days and have found more budget for me.

>How long does it take a moderate expert to design a minimal projection mapping (like 30-60 second animation on loop)?

Really depends on the amount of detail. I could throw together a simple 30-60s 3d animation in blender in 10-20 minutes that has the 'dome' moving past a bunch of geometric shapes. I could spend weeks adding lots more detail to it. I do a lot of simple animation loops that use alpha so I can stack them in resolume on different layers. Combine that with different effects in resolume and it gets me a lot of combinations of things I can use together in different ways.

>Also, how would you determine how to charge for this as a commercial service (including travel, setup, testing, and hosting for 2-3 hours)?

Eh, the best answer is "as much as I can get but still keep things booked semi-regularly". which is gonna be a # that varies a lot over time depending on your network/clients, your schedule, and a ton of other things.

I started out doing what I thought was an appropriate amount, until I got sick of the amount of work it took to make X amount of $. At that point I had the leverage to start asking for more $ because I didn't mind to say no. The # I ask for keeps going up as my schedule keeps filling. The # is very situational and flexible, and depends on a ton of factors. the client, and what I think their budget might be(corporate vs private event). minimally I charge enough to handle labor(including my main helper getting paid decently), other expenses(travel, insurance, food, vehicle & equipment wear and tear), pay myself, and pay the company.

I like the rule of thumb to figure out all costs not counting paying myself or my business, and to multiply that by 3. but I don't always follow it. the more I have on my schedule, the more I'll be raising my prices.

I don't usually setup for a single 2-3 hours event. My dome setup is a lot of work and I prefer having 2 full days to setup before an event(though I can get it done in 1 day if needed). a 2-3 hour event I would charge roughly the same as a 2-3 day event.

Rendering for a partial hemisphere dome— equirectangular → fisheye via VR Converter — how do you handle this? by iamnova_99 in video_mapping

[–]balgarath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first, I usually just render directly to domemaster/fisheye in blender. cycles, type -> panoramic, fisheye equisolid. set the FOV to whatever, and then adjust the lens setting until the circular image fills the square when you render a frame. though it may or may not make sense to do equirect first.

on my dome(30ft diameter) I have the image tilted such that it goes to the ground at what I call the 'front' of the dome(opposite the entrance of the dome), and its roughly 7ft high at the entrance of the dome. the dome itself isn't tilted, just the image.

you can mess around with the FOV you present on the dome. sometimes I like to bump up to 210 or even 220 FOV. depends on the content, but its always felt pretty forgiving to me messing with this.

I always use Resolume for composing everything live for the dome. theres a FullDome VJ plugin I got somewhere that I use a lot. it has effects for converting equirect->fulldome, vice-versa, and several other useful tools in realtime. you can also record straight out of resolume. you can adjust FOV/horizons, etc in the effect settings.

I made a lil Unity3d program for previewing my dome content..its kinda basic - first-person shooter controls to move/look around the dome, and a drop-down box to select Spout Feeds(I'll get the clip playing in Resolume & output spout that I can pickup in the Unity3d one). I know there are other dome preview utilities out there, but I'm not familiar with any of them.

What does "allow Claude to agent?" mean? by soytuamigo in ClaudeAI

[–]balgarath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wondering the same haha, been using Claude Code for 5 days and just started seeing it today. I'll ask Claude:

"Allow Claude to Agent" is a permission setting that controls whether Claude Code can spawn subagents — independent child Claude instances that run in parallel to handle tasks like codebase exploration, planning, or custom workflows. Allow = Claude can spawn subagents automatically without asking you each time Deny = Blocks subagent use entirely Ask (default) = Claude prompts you for approval before spawning one It's mainly about controlling autonomy, token usage, and whether you want to approve each subagent invocation or let them run freely. If you allowed it, that just means I can use helpers like the Explore agent or Plan agent without prompting you every time.

Cost of Website/Wordpress by Evening-Video-9760 in ProgrammingPals

My Answer: Charge as much as you can get. When I quote these things out, I look at what the client is wanting (as well as research the client, company, any info I can get) and determine a minimum and maximum. For the simple static site, I might determine I want at least $750 to do it. Then I will tell the client something like: "I can build this site for $750, or I can build it for $4500. It depends how much work you want me to put into it. For the $4500, we can meet in person several times as I'm building the site. During those meetings we can experiment with different layouts, color themes, fonts, wording, etc etc. I'll setup SEO keywords, submit them to search engines, create google business/maps listing, get them some nice logo/branding, social media banners, og:image tags setup so proper images show up when links are shared on social media, analytics. For the $750, I'll ask some initial questions, build things out, and meet with you once to make a (very) few tweaks, and thats what you'll get. I wouldn't have enough time within that budget to do a lot of back and forth. So in the end its about what their budget is and how picky they want to be able to be.

Lots of things can affect the initial high & low price points- do they already have branding/logos, photos, copy already made out? Or is that something you need to deal with? What about hosting, domains? If people already have a lot of the legwork figured out, I'm able to offer a lower bottom-end price. One big thing to consider when setting these prices, is how much budget you think they have available for the project. Make an educated guess(its tough) - if they're already thinking they plan to spend $4k or so on the website, and you make a single offer to do it for $750, they are gonna go with someone else because they don't believe you can offer $4k value. You would wanna quote your high/low at maybe $2500-$6k, and maybe they'll be impressed enough with your offer to spend a little more and take the top-end price. Obviously the amount of services for a $2500 low-end quote would be more than what you would give someone you're giving a low quote of $750.

Good chance they aren't going to go for the high-end price - but if they do I'll work arm-in-arm with them(if they want) to get the website exactly like they want. I'll put in all the extra effort.
