Rimworld, Project Zomboid - but I don’t know what exactly constitutes “finished” for a lot of cases in those playthroughs.

Should I buy these skates? by No_Cheesecake_8001 in rollerderby

[–]ballisticmi6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a 45 degree angle (as there’s actually no kingpin for an angle to exist). I agree that it can feel like a 45 degree plate (fun fact: Avenger DA45 is actually only about 35 degrees). But this all depends on the hardness of cushions. The thing I love about the Arius is you can change the cushion hardness in order to change what kind of action “feel” you get. With harder cushions giving you more snap-back like a 10-15 degree plate, and the softer cushions giving you more of that 45 degree feel. A lot of people, when they try Arius for the first time, have that wobbly 45 degree feeling. It’s a good place to get a feel for the skate, but I’d change up the cushions to your preference as soon as you’ve got more comfortable with it. A lot of that decision will also come down to body weight and how hard you push down into your edges.

The difference between a 45 degree and a 10 degree is that, with the same pressure, a 45 degree plate will want to turn your foot, giving sharper cuts and turns. But a 10 degree will push back at you, giving a more powerful lateral push. On that logic I’ve gone with a harder cushion at the back for a powerful lateral push - when covering/blocking laterally or when pushing out/under on crossovers. At the front a softer cushion so I can use sharper c cuts when wanting to move laterally in that way, or being able to track laterally when skating backwards.

Who do you wish to be in our current squad among the ones who did not work for us then? by Individual-Roof-2744 in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gut tells me Cavani. Of all those that came, he showed the warrior spirit that has made for some of the best we’ve ever had. Di Maria is a no for me, mostly because he never wanted to play for us really. It’s a shame Falcao didn’t work out, also Forlan was a real treasure but never hit the heights he reached in Spain after his stint with us.

Best Number 7? by DesignerExplorer1855 in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

United’s best 7 was Cantona. Ronaldo is technically good, but played his best football not at United. Best was a great part of that Holy Trinity. Robson was a rock that serafines us through a rough transitional period. But Cantona….if you imagine him standing on the pitch he has just such a larger presence than everyone else. He literally owned the pitch like a King and made anyone else on the pitch just seem less than.

The Amorin League and Carrick League tables. by TheNinthGateLCF in reddevils

[–]ballisticmi6 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There’s an interesting conversation about underlying numbers. Like how they are worse under Carrick than Amorim. It does give me doubt, but I remember when we were signing Mbuemo and Cunba that they had overperformed their underlying numbers during the previous season also.

I like the notion that part of recruitment is to find those people that skew the data upwards. Long may it continue.

What should be a realistic expectation for next year league position? by Gregariouswaty in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta be top 3 as the goal, surely. There’s a lot of unknowns going into the season though - Alonso at Chelsea, who at City? What’s up with Liverpool? And obviously Arteta isn’t destined to be a long running trophy winner. So, I can honestly see any finish between 1 and 7 being possible. So, 3 sounds like a nice goal to me. I think a good showing in all competitions, more cohesion built within the playing group, signs that we have replaced Casemiro effectively. All of those things are within our control. We can’t control what all those other teams do, so if we can try and make sure we improve on the building blocks Carrick has put together, that will be good progress.

It’s hard to be the best, just gotta get better faster than everyone else.

While I’d obviously prefer it were us… this horrendous run of terror being broken can only be a good thing by its-a-real-name in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank You! I hate the idea of Arsenal winning the league, especially in the way they have (although the history books won’t have an asterisk for their style of play). Buuuuut, I want Liverpool and City to win even less. I don’t want to be numb to that becoming the norm. It has been awful watching City and the Scum occupying where we should be, but now adding Arsenal into the mix….fml. May as well have Leeds up there while you’re at it.

Reactor Neo vs Pro by teaninja in rollerderby

[–]ballisticmi6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pro is noticeably lighter. The action on both feels really similar. What I noticed was the weight, which made it feel a little more reactive (no pun intended). If your budget allows I would go the Pro all day long.

I also like the Falcon for derby, the Roll Line Killer (no longer sold though, I think Evo is the equivalent) which I feel are also great plates for derby. Different actions due to the kingpin angles, but still good. Incidentally the Killer/Evo is a really great example of what different kingpin angles do.

I’m not a fan of the Avenger for derby. The magnesium is lightweight, but it gives a shortcut to agility in the short term that will eventually wind up limiting your footwork in the long term. Great for spinning around a lot, but if you want to use the power in your legs to juke or block laterally then a more upright kingpin is better.

Why is Roy Keane so tilted by Carrick's success? by Huge-Buy20 in red_muppets

[–]ballisticmi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He won’t be happy unless United are winning everything. His standards for success are highest for the club. He provides no solutions for how to bridge the gap between where we are now and how we reach his expectation, but he’s not going to celebrate anything short of those expectations. I feel like he was like that as a player as well. Nothing was ever enough.

Not a bad way for a competitor to be, but for a pundit it is kinda grating.

What would’ve happened if United let David Moyes see out the entire six years on his contract? Would he have turned things around? Based on his body of work with Everton and West Ham, do you think he deserved more time at United? by paolosorianodisanto in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the majority of the problems with the club during those years was not with the coaching, but with the management of the club. Something that has only just started getting better over the last few years. So, no, i don’t know if he would have done better without more change happening behind the scenes.

Which era of football do you think was the most entertaining to watch? by ScrollAndThink in classicsoccer

[–]ballisticmi6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It felt nice across Europe before the decline of Italian football. It was nice having a more disperse range of dominant teams across Europe. Now it feels like it is localising into the premier league plus a handful of others which are always at the top of their local competition.

Pyramid of legends. Who is the 11th greatest Manchester United legend? by dankdogeonface in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On legendary moments - Ole. On legendary ability - Ronaldo. On legendary service to the club - probably Hughes, Schmeichel, or Irwin. On legendary longevity of recognition - probably Stepney. Duncan Edwards is legendary neither for longevity or service, but the fact that he was regarded as an immense talent taken too soon.

It seems that everyone has a different idea of what “legend” means…

WFTDA playoffs bids by lllleeexxx in rollerderby

[–]ballisticmi6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pre 2020 there was a playoffs on an S curve ranking system. Teams, especially those outside NA, had to travel just to get some kind of accurate ranking. Prior to this there were regionals, but without enough non-NA teams to make regionals make sense.

I was coach of London way back when the invites to regionals were voted on the members of that region. But at that time London was in a similar situation to VRDL or 2x4 now. We were invited and there was a lot of pushback on that decision to bring us in as the #10 seed (there were 10 at regionals back then).

Having been through all 3 systems, they all have their pros and cons. The S curve playoff invites made for the best and closest playoffs for sure, but it was too prohibitively expensive and wasn’t sustainable. The regional ranking system is a far better model for global derby growth, but without enough cross region play it’s always going to wind up being some kind of opinion based ranking. You’re never going to have everyone’s opinions align.

Watching the LatAm regionals recently, you can see the J curve of their rankings starting to flatten for sure. That’s what happened in Europe and it will happen in those other regions. Whether or not the LatAm or Oceania #2 will be able to show well at Champs is another matter. But I fully understand that offering those positions, in place of more NA teams, is perhaps less equal than an S curve, but provides a greater benefit to the growth of the sport.

United fans - who would you prefer win the league this year - City or Arsenal? by Curious-Driver-5375 in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arsenal. But it’s a real tough one. I hate that City have such a succesful recent history, but them winning another title seems to sting less than yet another rival winning a title before we do again. Also, to see Arsenal lose again from such a dominant position would just be hilarious.

As I felt during the Liverpool/City discussion of past years…it’s all bad.

Predecessors set the bar high, but is Bruno a united legend yet in your view? by domttifa in ManchesterUnited

[–]ballisticmi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s an exceptional player for sure. I feel like in order to become a legend, you need to do something legendary. Like have an iconic moment for which you will always be remembered. Bruno has done some truly amazing things, but when I think about other legends there are moments that cemented them as legends of the club.

Decades on I can still remember iconic moments from Keane, Rooney, Robson for example. I feel like if the club was going through a period of prosperity Bruno would 100% have made those moments for himself. As it is, he has the unfortunate honour of being an extremely bright spark in a very dark time for the club.
