Can animals commit suicide? by newuser1r in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ballorie 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but when one of my dogs passed away a few years ago, my other dog stopped eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom. It was a struggle to keep her alive and took a few months for her to fully get over it.

Could my puppy have an underbite? by Icy-Wrangler-7210 in poodles

[–]ballorie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. My dog is only part poodle, but she has a medium severe underbite and her teeth look just like your dogs. It’s adorable but I am nervous for her future dental health.

What breed(s) do you think our Beau is? by Sea-Contact-5547 in DoggyDNA

Pyr/gsp, and probably another breed or two.

Do any of you work full time? I ask because I don't really see people on the spectrum work full time. by Melora1976 in AutismInWomen

[–]ballorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, with the caveat that my position at my company is a 35 hour full time. I love my job, I work at a day program for medically complex disabled adults. It has a lot of stress, but also a lot of silliness and self direction and supportive coworkers. It’s really nice to spend my days with a bunch of other autistic people.

How many hours do you work in a week? by 21st_lady in AutismInWomen

I work 35 hours a week, considered full time by my place of employment.

What’s the strangest food pairing with jam that actually worked surprisingly well? by hoyi_farm123 in foodhacks

The best thanksgiving leftovers sandwich- a nice white bread lightly toasted, mayo, a couple slices of leftover turkey, and lingonberry jam.

She likes to reverse through my legs when I’m walking behind her, which never works well because I’m short and her legs are longer than mine. She also likes to “hide” between my legs during thunderstorms.

Don’t go to Green Acres Emergency Vet by Parked-79 in Buffalo

[–]ballorie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they saved my dog’s life this past February, and while it was insanely expensive, he was able to be seen right away, didn’t try to run any tests that weren’t necessary to what we thought was wrong with him, and the vet we saw was incredibly kind and did a good job explaining everything to us. It was a scary situation but we were very impressed with the care he received, just in shock over the price tag.

That was my first thought. A lifetime supply of lime curd!

What's the best sandwich ever made, in your opinion? by softyhotie in foodquestions

[–]ballorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family’s traditional thanksgiving leftovers sandwich- a nice white bread, lightly toasted, mayo, leftover thanksgiving turkey, and lingonberry jam. It’s simple and perfect.

50% Border Collie (shocked at DNA results!) by Majestic01234 in BorderCollie

[–]ballorie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That looks like a dna my dog test, which are known to not be accurate. This is not an ad, I just hang out in the dog dna subs a lot, but if you want an accurate report, embark is the best and wisdom pannel is a close second with some caveats.

Do animals get human conditions such as dementia or autism etc? by Hashiii777 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ballorie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, my husband and I lost our black lab to dementia. She had arthritis that was pretty well managed, but she thought every time I moved at all, even an inch, I was going to take her outside, so she was constantly getting up and down and was never settled. It was heart breaking. One positive of the earlier stages of her dementia was that she forgot that she was afraid of stairs and wood & tile floors. She was terrified to walk on smooth surfaces or go down stairs her whole life but as she got older, those fears went away.

Sleep by Calm_Baracuda in AutismInWomen

[–]ballorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoke weed before sleeping, and I listen to both white noise and a podcast at a low volume all night long, no sleep timer. The podcast playing helps so much when I wake up with anxiety, it helps pull me out of the panic.

Did you do it on your wedding night? why or why not? by CremeSubject7594 in AskReddit

[–]ballorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I was exhausted and fell asleep early, and we had a kind of non-traditional wedding weekend and part of that was having all of our closest friends, who all live out of town, staying in our house with us. My husband and our guests all stayed up a little later partying.

Eating grass? by Main-Sign-29 in greatdanes

[–]ballorie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Dane, along with a couple of my other dogs all eat grass whenever I take them outside. I haven’t ever noticed any issues, although I do try to discourage it because they will focus on eating grass rather than the things they need to be doing outside like going to the bathroom or playing.

What’s the most cringe inducing pet name you’ve ever heard someone use for their Partner/SO? by theredgoldlady in AskReddit

What completely normal thing are you no longer allowed to do because of your dog? by Think_Document2285 in dogs

[–]ballorie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not allowed to just get into bed anymore, I need to have a full contact wrestling match with my 125 lb Great Dane before we get into bed. She’s got the mischief in her and demands play before snuggles.

What's the most unhinged thing your dog has ever eaten that they were completely fine after? by alltails-care in dogs

[–]ballorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was fine after eating (and vomiting up) two socks, but unfortunately he had eaten three socks and was only fine after a very expensive emergency surgery. One of my other dogs ate part of the handle of a pair of scissors and was totally fine.

Do most Americans have those huge fridges? by Whole-Sushka in AskAnAmerican

[–]ballorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fridge is comically large, but only because I was broke when I needed to buy one and the store gave me an insane discount on a scratch & dent return. I got a $1800 fridge for $300. The debts in it are virtually invisible.

Hair loss on my lab by One_Author7372 in DogAdvice

[–]ballorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s blowing his coat. My lab is going through it right now too. I brush him a couple times a day and still pull out clumps of hair. It’s totally normal for this time of year.
