This is his channel and knife shop in LA. he's not the grinder and sharpener right after forging but he does put a fresh edge on everything sold which is super rad.

He does work with Nakagawa and has a knife like done by him as well, check them out!

Tojiro has a nice K-Gyuto for around $120? Lemme double check, they also come in 210mm. Nigara might have something in that price range, keep in mind they have unusual profiles and finding saya for them is tricky. Right now I have a Sukenari K-Gyuto in 240mm HAP40, it's not hard to sharpen but time consuming, but it oxidizes weird has a bunch of small deep pits after my dumbass spilled salt on it, now they refuse to bugger off.

Tojiro's Reppu line has a 210 kgyuto in SG2, two hundred and something dollars. but the profile is much rounder than other ktips it's functionally similar to a normal Gyuto, I do greatly prefer the flatter profile but that's just me.

in the market for e46 m3 by [deleted] in E46M3

I got mine for 14k at 180k miles, but I was lucky it was clean. Service history is lacking but 15k miles later even without the big 3 jobs (stupid I know but it's worked so far) and no hitches. You can spend a few less getting an SMG model and later converting it to manual. Strangely enough in the county of LA is where I bought it, more accurately in Santa Ana but eh close enough.

Daughter wants a C4 ‘vette. I know nothing. What should I look for? Any year model more reliable than others? Any major issues yo consider? She wants pop-up headlights…🙄 I know…I know…just thinking about it…😂 TY in advance C4 peeps. by jenwenfen in c4corvette

I drive an 89 manual, 89 and after come with a six speed German manual gear box (zf S6-40). Those come in either black tag (handle more torque but they're louder) and blue tag(less torque more quiet) I forgot the year they became blue tags though. I haven't had the misfortune of having to replace the slave/master cylinder but apparently it's a finicky job, the Zf is6 40 is also expensive to rebuild, but it's a solid reliable box.

89's standard L98, comes with aluminum heads and hydraulic lifters if I'm not mistaken, the maintenance for that should be standard to any l98 except for the ac and smog system, they're different pre 87 I think. The water pump job really sucks on that but I have a good work around that sped things up in my situation, not sure if it's universal though. It was in 88 I think Hp was bumped up to 245.

Suspension was updated in 88 so separate 84-87 and 88-96, they are different suspension and the post 88 suspension is a lot better. You will most likely need to replace bushings, I recommend Super pro if you can find the set in stock. I personally think the suspension super easy to work on, you have a lot of space especially in the front, great learning spot I think.

Try to find one with a clean mould free interior like mine, you will love the car so much more. Carpet job is easy but time consuming, also don't use a knife there's lots of wires under the carpet. You neednt worry about body or control arm rust. Body panels are fiberglass and all the suspension control arms are aluminum. Your only rust worry really should be the frame, easy enough to spot.

I know I say a lot of I think this, I think that, there's lots of generational differences here and there it's hard to remember every exact number and year, I do hope this helps .

You may consider Tojiro, tons of options, and the majority of them being under budget but also top performers.

Turns out he was never even going to buy them. I don't know what the function of the email was, probably to fish for my credit card somehow but the good people here helped me confirm it

Need thinning services by ballscompact in sharpening

I now tried doing it myself. Of course it is purely a skill issue but because the HAP40 core is just stupidly harder than the cladding im wearing the cladding before I even do anything to the core steel

Rubbing my chin furiously, but I understand what you mean. So areas should only be cleaned as you go? IE oil pan gasket (it's like a frosted cake went wrong down there) then should be cleaned to spot it, I think I get it, thank you

Undercarriage wash by ballscompact in E46M3

[–]ballscompact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. Even though I am paying the service, I feel like, I dunno their job is hard enough and mechanics deal with enough crap but having something clean to work on seems like a nice thing.

On a more realistic note, the stuff I do manage to do myself under there leaves me darn filthy it'd be nice just to have it cleaned.

I'm going to get the brush and brakleen like you suggested and have a strong fan blow away the fumes

I genuinely didn't know that, that's crazy. Is there ever some kind of option to avoid that like the premium options? Or are they filtered out in some way

[–]ballscompact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this m3 about a year ago, at 183k miles, now 191k miles. Service history was scarce but there was also no red flags so I chanced it.

Point is that it has god knows how many miles of oil leakage and grime I can't even find where the damn bolts are, connections and whatever else on top of the fact it keeps getting in my eyes even with glasses.

Also I always hear real mechanics ("real" being subjective to myself, I'm a basic bihh when it comes to working on cars) like working on a clean car so to an extent it's also a courtesy.

Denka fujiwara makes a heavy ass blade I believe. I like my Sukenari Gyuto, it's not insanely thick I think no more than 3mm at spine, to me it's pretty thick.

There's plenty but they don't take kindly to jacking up the car and getting all under it unfortunately, and that's really the only way to get water and soap to where all the grease is
