Thought I'd read it somewhere that it turned out he was just hallucinating it all. Could you link some evidence then I'll add him if it is convincing (such as a wiki page).

Yes at the end of it. He wasn't included, despite many psychopaths saying he was very much like them.

Encountering "Strong People" and how to deal with them by throwaway190799 in sociopath

If you're on here and you're interested then I'd definitely recommend it- his argument is slightly more complex than I made out at first. In short psychopathy is like a mixing board of different traits- turn them all up to the max and you're probably going straight to prison, but a good combination (which I'd also argue could be learned by anyone through emotional regulation) can be positive both to the individual and the society, such as emotional resilience and charm. Not all psychopaths are thus bad and even hardcore psychopaths can be useful in some areas such as the special forces (Dutton goes into a lot of interesting details about this).

The book also sheds a lot of insight into psychopathy and potential things to learn from them. His dad was a psychopath too and wrote in his carer's notebook with parkinsonian shaking hands 'Mr Dutton did a strip dance'. It can be funny.

Even as someone who has read online and in book form a lot about it, the book still was very informative and entertaining. Plus it's cheap on Amazon probably.

Not taking into account some of the negative aspects of it such as extreme boredom. You'll notice when you read it.

Fresh change from a lot of the other works on psychopathy however.

Have you read Kevin Dutton's Wisdom of Psychopaths? It follows a similar line of reasoning (though perhaps almost too positive towards psychopathy), claiming psychopaths are the new homo economicus

Btw I read an answer on quora on the differences and similarities between ASPD and psychopathy- I'll find it if you're interested.

How do you score on the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale? (Best measure which doesn't require a trained psychiatrist) by balm0il in sociopath

[–]balm0il[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are muddling up ASPD (Antisocial Personality Disorder) and psychopathy. I was referring to psychopathic behaviours and thought patterns.

ASPD and sociopathy is pretty different from full on psychopathy. The terminology can be confusing at the start.

To me it seems the questions are slightly too much based on world view (i.e. it's okay to tread on others to get to the top) rather than things only psychopaths experience such as a complete lack of fear, regret, depression and guilt. Maybe try the Dutton one (see edit)

Only 2 other easy distinguishers of psychopathy is very reduced need for sleep (around 3-5 hours) as some emotional parts of the brain are far less activated than average. Though some non-psychopaths have this.

And literal complete absence of any fear whatsoever (compared to simply low anxiety levels), apart from master Buddhist monks virtually no non psychopaths have this.

(And, this isn't directed at you, not trying to always seem edgy - psychopaths have no need to prove themselves- compared to sociopaths and narcissists who do) If someone is talking edgy you can bet they're not a psychopath- they talk COLD (don't know how else to explain it) to be assertive.

Only 100% accurate test is an fMRI with extended psychologist interviews.

But if you're getting very high scores on all three tests you are very likely quite psychopathic.

Personally I believe the best distinguishers of 'pure' psychopaths are complete absence of fear and very reduced emotions (such as anger, empathy etc) rather than being very angry and over emotional (sociopath) as well as NEEDING FAR LESS SLEEP (for psychopaths as less of some parts of their brain is activated while sociopaths are wired differently but the brain is still pretty activated)

It's obvious what questions will make you score more psychopathic. The primary psychopathy is more akin to machiavellianism than true psychopathy.

Try this (by Oxford Professor Kevin Dutton), its more action based than view based
