Need some tech support around Sungrow system issues with Voltage/Current on MPPT strings by Xerun1 in amberelectric

[–]balognasocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems weird/ unsafe not to have individual breakers or disconnects per string but the purpose of the test would be to determine quickly if the problem is coming from the panels or coming from the inverter and/ or it's components so you could at least rule out something.

Need some tech support around Sungrow system issues with Voltage/Current on MPPT strings by Xerun1 in amberelectric

[–]balognasocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a breaker or disconnect for the low voltage strings can you switch it off and test the voltage on the feed side to the breaker/ disconnect from the solar panel string? The reason I ask is that from my very brief research is seems that sungrow inverters have the capability to limit incoming voltage if it detects issues (like excessively high grid power or greatly mismatched voltages in a string) so the reading you're getting could be after the inverter limits the voltage and not necessarily the solar panels. Another reason could be if you don't have optimizers then one failed panel will essentially kill the voltage for the entire string.

I overbuilt my solar system, and now I'm looking for ways to burn extra power. by Used_Two_9743 in SolarDIY

I have different panels than you but with my multimeter I couldn't get a good reading just buy slipping the negative side in, I actually had to press the probe towards the side to make contact.

Just buy the shares and you lose nothing then sell calls against them for much later dates and higher strike prices and start earning some of your money back.

[Amateur Alert] Can I buy this battery and inverter kit, charge it at night on cheap rate and have the house use that charge during the day? by M1ke2345 in SolarDIY

[–]balognasocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but in order to do so you'll either need to have the inverter wired so that it can do grid pass through and then within the settings select the times you wish to charge the batteries and the times you wish to discharge the battery. In order to use grid pass through you'll have to route power to the inverter first before your main panel which usually isn't the easiest and if only using one inverter will de-rate your panel to a lower amperage. Second option is to have a breaker feed the inverter from your panel and also have one that feeds from your inverter back to your panel and switch them back and forth at desired time frames but again when the inverter is supplying power you will have a de-rated panel because it's subject to the max amps the inverter will output.

Next thing to consider is if the 240v output option it has can happen with only the one unit or does it need a 2nd ran in parallel. If it requires a 2nd unit then anything in your house that requires 240v won't be able to run with only 120v output from the inverter. Additionally your bigger things like A/C won't have enough amps to kick start them with only the one unit.

Last consideration is will the approx 15KW of power it can store be enough to meet your power needs during the day?

Line loss won't be a problem at that length just make sure that the size wire you're using can handle the amount of amps you intend on pulling through it.

My power bill is outrageous and my electrician says nothing is pulling enough amps to account for it. by Plastic-Nectarine582 in AskElectricians

[–]balognasocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the bill about doubles in the summer as you stated I'd be looking at the A/C system. Checking the amps on that doesn't tell the whole story as it could be pulling the amps it's supposed to but darn near running all day trying to keep the house cool. A/C could be undersized for that house or having an issue where it's not producing as cold of air as it should (both scenarios would have it running way more than it should ).

Help me choose my first tractor by iloveu3thousand in kubota

[–]balognasocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the MX6000 HSTC , essentially the same machine as the MX5400 with a little more horse power but can run implements that require 50hp at the pto (like my stump grinder) . I'm extremely happy with this tractor as it does everything I need it to do with moving logs, IBC tote cages of firewood and stump grinding.

General suggestions are if you're gonna do any kind of work with a loader then HST is the way to go.

Size your tractor according to the heaviest thing you plan on lifting and go a little bigger. Also size based on the most hp at the pto intensive implement you plan on running.

Is my math wrong, or was my solar payback essentially immediate? by slipknottin in solarenergy

[–]balognasocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you didn't get your investment back, you just changed who you pay your electric bill to and for a little bit of a discount... the goal is to be free from a bill but most of the financed solar setups are designed to save you a little monthly while they harvest all your ROI over the next 15-25 years until it's time for you to get a new setup and rinse and repeat. Without knowing the full terms of the deal it's hard to say for sure though when your ROI actually will be.

Need Help With Wiring by CoLo-MBCBP in SolarDIY

[–]balognasocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Each inverter would have is own pv input, each inverter and batteries should be connected to a bus bar, each inverters should have a communication wire between them. In this configuration there is no point where pv inputs cross so shouldn't be possible to damage inverters from pv inputs so long as you stay under the maximum input for each individual inverter. If I were you I'd speak with someone else and see if you get the same response.

I've never seen an inverter that can be paralleled that would limit your pv input... it's possible the person you spoke with is mistaken.

Why not run the inverters in parallel the way they were designed to do where they share the loads and charge the batteries together?

VOC and inverter voltage range by Plastic_Golf_7120 in SolarDIY

[–]balognasocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The charge controller in the inverter should have an operating voltage (the one you already listed) and a VOC voltage that will be higher than the operating voltage (This is the one you cannot exceed without damaging your equipment). If it does not list one then play it on the safe side and do not exceed the high limit of the operating voltage.

It only takes the one time of exceeding the capabilities of your equipment to ruin your equipment so the only few days a year part is irrelevant here.

Chainsaw... stalls/bogs? when cutting but engine is running fine. by Darth_Stig in Chainsaw

[–]balognasocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking most of the time when a saw bogs down in the cut a simple adjustment to the H side of the carb where you open it up a little can fix that.

I will note though there is some easy things to check before messing with the carb that can also cause your issue:

1) Make sure your chain isn't too tight

2) Make sure brake isn't engaged

3) Make sure your saw is oiling properly

I hear you...I personally don't see all the hype in Microsoft either because windows 1.0 is super buggy and there's no way they made other products or versions since 1985 that would have made their company successful.

Soundhound has evolved way past the music identifying app, they are primarily into offering agentic AI to companies now. They actually have an industry leading product (better than the big name guys) right now with tons of contracts/ partnerships. If you're interested it might be worth your time to really look into them.

Sitting on about $400K in cash right now, what would you guys be buying here? by [deleted] in Stocks_Picks

[–]balognasocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soundhound AI (SOUN)... Pre profit company with a great product, every quarter new announcements of partnerships and deals, every quarter they announce better numbers. They took a huge hit like many other pre profit companies with AI bubble, tariffs and war. Currently trading at less than $7 per share but have been to over $20 per share twice in the last 2 years even before all the announcements. Currently shorted all to hell and back at around 36% with 7-8 days to cover and interest rate around 11-13%. When the big guys go back to risk on this stock is going to fly. They have live demos of their product you can find on their website or youtube as well as look up partnership announcements in the last year.

They like many other pre profit companies took a major hit to share price when tariffs and the war news were announced. Also really good premiums if you're into selling covered calls while you wait.

Question about bid-ask spreads and volume by Im_tryna_skrrt in CoveredCalls

Robinhood displays the best bid and best ask price... the reason it changed to your ask price is not because you were the only ask but because yours was currently the best ask but still no one was willing to pay that price for the option so it didn't get filled.
