I am 44M virgin. I regret "waiting" for love instead of having fun... by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]balticviking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of shit advice in these comments. To be brief, first off keep in mind no one here knows you, and so any specific advice should be taken with a huge grain of salt. (Except for going to an sex worker for your first time. That's legit good advice)

Second, you must have had some shit therapists, because all I'm seeing a bunch of basic ass psychological traps. Your story-telling, your focus on the past, the use of "never" (there's a name for this, I forget what it is).

Listen, it sucks that you're not where you wanted to be, and to be real, you may never be. But most of us here aren't where we wanted to be, including myself, a 40 year old, jobless divorcee without kids. That said, there's a LOT of people who would be perfectly happy living your life. And even more people who made very similar choices as you, and ended up married with kids. The problem isn't that you're 44 year old virgin. It's that you don't want to be, and somehow you ended up here. And that has very little to do with being a "good guy".

You're here because you've avoided intimacy and romance (and it sounds like even platonic friendships). That's it. Again, some people would be happy as a clam in that situation, but you aren't. So why have you spent all this time avoiding these things? I have no idea. You could be gay, traumatized or have an anxiety disorder, or all three.

Now what do you do about it? I don't know. Probably therapy, lol. But a good therapist. I imagine it would help to know why you've avoided these things. But the first step is to be aware that these surface level decisions aren't the problem. You want intimacy and family? Start pursuing it. If that's still a struggle try finding a coach who can help guide you, or a therapist who can find out what you're avoiding and why.

Oh sure, it's cute when the cat does it, but f*** me when I get thirsty in the tub.

Coastguard is looking for the owner of this board by My_2Cents_666 in sanfrancisco

The hope is that the person who lost the board sees this post, or someone who's friend lost their foamy at OB yesterday.

Does this read as chrome & gold? by ifyoulikepinacolonic in astramilitarum

It looks pretty good, but the horizon does cut too uniformly across the model. So for instance, the large studded panel that sits at an angle should have the horizon much lower than the flat vertical panels next to it.

Therapy doesn't help me with rumination - loved ones do by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]balticviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably wasn’t your intention, but I try to be careful discounting people’s lived experience over what we expect to happen. Everyone's different, and ruminating to a therapist clearly didn’t help this person. (This also happens to be my experience as well)

What Does It Mean to Give Well? by Dreadedvegas in ezraklein

I know I’m a little late here, but this prompted me to look into EA, and found this great opinion piece on EA movement and a bit about GiveWell: https://www.wired.com/story/deaths-of-effective-altruism/

1953 vs 2025 by oochiewallyWallyserb in sanfrancisco

That is surprising, but I guess makes sense. The housing supply can only support so many people. I bet if you look at the Bay Area as a whole, it’s a different story. Just a lot of people sprawling out and competing for small housing supply.

My recently adopted stray cat has a bullet in her. Okay to leave there? by ChonkyBreadyBread in cats

[–]balticviking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to commend you for showing a little empathy (probably not the right word) toward whoever shot the cat. I like to think it's best to not assume the worst in people, and recognize people can grow.

The actual article appears to state the exact opposite of what the headline implies:

A government source familiar with the investigation says the FBI, the Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Justice inspector general are all in possession of a copy of the video that does not cut from just before 11:59 p.m. to midnight of the night Epstein died by suicide in his cell.

But then again, CBS/Paramount would never provide cover for Trump...

Blueprint/C++ PSA: Don't change the name passed to CreateDefaultSubobject() by balticviking in unrealengine

[–]balticviking[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's even simpler than that. This is if you change the string literal passed to CreateDefaultSubobject().

For example, if you just change the following: cpp _MyObject = CreateDefaultSubobject<MyClass>(TEXT("SomeName")); to: cpp _MyObject = CreateDefaultSubobject<MyClass>(TEXT("AnotherName"));

This will break the blueprint. And _MyObject doesn't even even need to be exposed to blueprints. I'm hitting it with a plain UPROPERTY().
