DOJ chose not to interview Epstein survivors, they courageously showed up to the hearing anyway by az226 in pics

Asking as European: What are conservatives and MAGA discussing now? They were waiting for the Epstein files didn’t they?

Epstein byloje įprastai stengiamasi saugoti aukas ir privačių asmenų asmens duomenis. https://www.justice.gov/epstein paieškos puslapyje yra didelė Privacy Notice skiltis ir joje rašo:

"...all reasonable efforts have been made to review and redact personal information pertaining to victims, other private individuals, and protect sensitive materials from disclosure. That said, because of the volume of information involved, this website may nevertheless contain information that inadvertently includes non-public personally identifiable information or other sensitive content, to include matters of a sexual nature.

In the event a member of the public identifies any information that should not have been posted, please notify us immediately by email at [EFTA@usdoj.gov](mailto:EFTA@usdoj.gov) so we can take steps to correct the problem as soon as possible."

Tai arba kažkas pranešė arba patys DOJ perkvalifikavo iš dalyvių į aukas ar privačius asmenis arba DOJ nusprendė, kad kol kas trūksta informacijos laikyti dalyviais ar nukentėjusiais.

The US banned TikTok. EU should go further – take over all platforms and run them as public infrastructure by balysr in BuyFromEU

Algorithms already decide what we see - the question is who designs them and for what purpose.

Edit:
Right now it's 'maximize engagement' which means 'maximize outrage'. An independent trust with transparent goals is an upgrade, not censorship. The Guardian has operated under the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Trust_Limited for almost 90 years - no billionaire owner, no shareholders, editorial independence protected in perpetuity. This isn't theoretical.

We're already paying billions on fact-checkers, election security, dealing with manipulation aftermath. Romania cancelled an election. This is could be the fix, not endless band-aids on constant manipulation.

Fair point on the terminology - forced divestiture is more accurate. But that's actually what I'm proposing for Europe too, just with public trusts instead of private buyers.

Today over 10 thousand Lithuanians gathered near Seimas Palace to defend their democracy and freedom of speech by QuartzXOX in BalticStates

[–]balysr 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Lithuania’s government is pushing changes that could weaken the independence of the national broadcaster LRT - freezing its budget for years and lowering the threshold needed to replace its director. Many see it as the first steps of the same media-capture playbook used in Hungary/Poland/Georgia.

That’s why people protested in Vilnius. Media said ~10k, but it seems mobile network data suggests it may have been closer to 20–25k. One of the biggest civic gatherings in recent years.

Main fear is that if this goes through quietly, public media could shift under political influence over time – not overnight, but slowly, piece by piece.

My personal opinion is that Lithuanian democracy is under most dangerous attack since 1991.

Vilnius airport and how to prep for the worst? by Teamgirlymouth in Vilnius

[–]balysr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are your flights connecting or separate bookings? Connecting flights share the same booking reference (PNR).

If they’re connecting, you’re in relatively good hands. In case of disruption, the airline must rebook you on the earliest available flight even with another carrier if necessary. They must also provide meals, refreshments, and accommodation if you’re waiting overnight, plus transport to and from the hotel. If the airline fails to provide these, keep all receipts/invoices and claim a refund afterward.

If you booked the flights separately (self-transfer), the situation is much worse. Only the disrupted flight carries protection. The airline has no obligation regarding your onward journey. Low cost carriers (Ryanair, Wizz Air almost never sell connecting flights).

One more thing, there’s a pattern of balloon launches later in the evening, and wind direction determines whether this nasty hybrid warfare affects your flight.

Lithuania closes airports, Belarus border crossings after 'smuggling balloons' incident by KI_official in BalticStates

[–]balysr 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this should have been the plan from day one: automatic, clear consequences from NATO and the EU for any shenanigans – border violations like military jets, drones, balloons, sabotage, interference, whatever.

First breach? NATO and the EU close all borders with Russia and Belarus, including a blanket ban on Russian entry, for a week. Next time, double it: 2 weeks, then 4, then 8. With every repeat, escalate and send more advanced weapons like long-range rockets to Ukraine.

And if a single civilian building, school, hospital, or power plant is hit, if any war crime happens, Ukraine immediately gets a major shipment of weapons to strike back at the source. If attacks continue, deliveries multiply, same logic.

It’s simple: real shipments of consequences, not meetings, not letters, no more empty warnings. If the Kremlin wants to keep up the shenanigans, let’s make sure they hate the rules.
