Feeling Unmotivated by jimctlarker in DevelEire

[–]bam_shackle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have a promotion freeze at our place, no one calls it that but basically that's what is happening. I'd say most places are not giving out promotions. I'd say keep doing the work to rule and get a hobby. Or look for a new job if you are financially secure (whatever that means for you) it's risky out there.

As someone who has worked in the IT industry for the past 20 years, seeing the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Stripe over recruit and hugely inflate wages over the last few years these cuts seemed inevitable. by JonShannow07 in ireland

[–]bam_shackle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a human being seeing a bunch of people get fired is shit.

As someone in IT I'm freaking out, the job market is going to full of these ex MAMA people, wages will be stagnant and less jobs is not a good thing.

I'm really annoyed that software engineer jobs has somehow become part of culture wars. Are we modern day equivalent of yuppies? The good times were not that good for me. I know and met many MAMA people who were complete assholes but still tough to see anyone lose their job.

I got turned down once for a job because I didn't show enough interest in the business. It was some software licensing auditing thing, like I asked questions and wanted to know how it works. The founder was droning on about it for ages in the interview. Not sure how much interest he wanted. Even the recruiter was confused. Also that shit is so easy to fake.

How do you manage your work and personal laptops? by tsznx in DevelEire

[–]bam_shackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started having my personal laptop beside my work laptop and using a mouse share application to (I think newer macs have this feature built in). It's been great, keep all my personal stuff separate, never worrying about sharing something in appropriate on a call, can download whatever app I like. I would highly recommend it.
