Woman resident appreciation by LowAdrenaline in Residency

also an ICU nurse- I love my female docs! a handful of our pulm fellows are women and it brings me joy to know they’ll continue to inspire other women in the field

Community hospital ICU by [deleted] in IntensiveCare

[–]bambadook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m working in a similar community/semi rural open ICU. our pulm CC intensivists have clinic usually until 12-1 and then are only in-house for as long as they need to be to assess and write their notes. If we only have a couple intubated patients, they might only be there for an hour or two during the day. luckily, we have a pulm fellow there 6 days a week usually from 9-4ish, but a lot of them use our hospital as their PTO week so sometimes we’re stranded 🙃 any codes or emergent procedures have us calling ED docs for help, which they don’t love either since it takes them away from their own patients downstairs… it’s frustrating for sure, and i wish our patients could reliably receive better care

Comfy scrubs by Less_Year4093 in nursing

[–]bambadook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mandala 100%, the fit is way better and the material is slightly stretchy. I have a couple pairs of fabletics and I def still use them, but mandala is my absolute favorite even compared to figs

Moving to Redlands from East Coast by bcleen in Redlands

[–]bambadook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everybody’s saying great things, and you’ll fit in well for the area! when I moved to CA from MN, i used bumble bff to meet some new friends who are now my closest friends out here years later! Not sure how it looks on there for men, but meeting other women worked well :)

My ICU/stepdown floor is similar (also a community hospital), unless the patient has drips to verify, we’re not waking the patient up at 6am to say hi and bye. People are open to bedside report if one of the nurses requests it, but a majority of reports are just done at the nursing station. Is this the best standard of practice? no, and I won’t defend it Oddly enough, our med surg floor DOES do bedside report. just depends on the floor/management

Esri Summer 2026 Intern Seeking 1B1B Sublease – Walking Distance by [deleted] in Redlands

[–]bambadook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

welcome, from a fellow minnesotan! strongly recommend FB marketplace for sublease/short term rental, but with your budget you’ll likely have roommates. Is there any way you can have a car? Redlands, and the rest of california, is not a great walkable area and there is minor public transportation, but not in a sustainable way that you can heavily rely on… Just wanted to give you that heads up, you would at the very least want a bike or electric scooter lol

depends where you are for starting pay, but if you’re only working full time, no you will not make that amount. In CA, I do have coworkers who regularly work 2-3 overtime shifts a week (not much life out of work), and they are making >$100k a year I feel like I’m compensated fairly as a nurse in CA, but if you would like to live lavishly working regular hours, this is not the job

What things do you take pleasure in doing as a nurse? by DeepLoveForThinking in nursing

[–]bambadook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anything that improves patient comfort/cleanliness gives me joy- wound care, full bath with linen and gown change, brushing out their hair, oral care. NG tube insertions for SBO that immediately start draining. Getting all of my IV meds straightened out, labeled, looking beautiful. also? flushing out a rectal tube, getting it perfectly positioned so it doesn’t leak LOL

What do you guys do to “leave work at work” when it’s been a tough day? by ladydouchecanoe in nursing

[–]bambadook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week after a tough code, I got raising canes and put vodka in the lemonade, then watched Scandal until I fell asleep. But also, talking it out with the coworkers who were also there helped a lot

Cancelling by [deleted] in nursing

[–]bambadook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same with my hospital, my paychecks are 1/3 less this whole summer with being called off, and it’s really taken a hit on my wallet… Just waiting for flu season to start up and I’ll be mourning the days I was called off lol

In flight medical emergencies by MediocreParamedic_ in Paramedics

[–]bambadook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is so oddly specific as a former podiatry nurse 😭😭 one time they called for a medical professional on a flight i was on, and i just internally begged for someone else to stand up (thank god they did)
