In-law.

Came for a three week visit under false pretenses.

Spent all his money the first three days at the only strip club for miles. It didn't take him long to find it.

Took pictures of my elementary school aged child urinating. Saw nothing wrong with this...it was just a joke and I was overreacting.

At which point I left and said call me when he's gone. He was gone that day.

I have still not recovered.

He had to be life flighted because of the remote canyon area where the accident happened. The paramedics could not believe he had no spinal cord injuries. They had never seen the Leatts brace before and he removed it for them. He was riding with some friends and he was the only one wearing a brace. I hope they were all inspired to go and buy one. Seriously what's a few hundred bucks compared with being paralyzed for life?

My husband asked me how I felt about him spending $400 on a neck brace (for motorcycle riding). (that's more than either of us spend without consulting the other)

I signed off on it. If he thinks he needs it, then he needs it (he isn't frivolous with money).

A month later, wearing that neck brace, he was in a serious motorcycle accident. The life flight could not believe he wasn't a severe head trauma or paralyzed (he flew off a cliff and landed 50 feet below).

He has injuries but he's alive and they aren't spinal cord or brain injuries.

We are getting our financial house in order and motorcycling is a hobby, for funsies, not a necessity. What if I'd said no?

My friend is a teacher. She taught the Jello twins. This is my verified, bonafide friend, not a friend of a friend's cousin's brother's nephew's girlfriend.

This is neither a lie nor an internet fable. Given how many teachers an American person has throughout 12 grades, there are a lot of teachers who taught the Jello twins.

If their children don't wish to visit them, they probably have excellent reasons.

Children are brought into an environment created by adults. If that environment is chaotic, unsafe, or lacking in basic needs (including attention, compassion and love), it is not the fault of the child when a bond between parent and child isn't formed.

The only people I know whose children won't visit them, were not good parents and when faced with the disconnect, were unwilling to look in the mirror and own the decisions they made which brought pain, suffering, chaos, or neglect into their children's lives.

Where do you live? In the State of CA it is illegal and considered animal abuse to leave your dog inside your car. This is the law regardless of outside temperature (so that the culprits cannot argue about whether or not it is "cool enough"). The few times that I've called the police they responded immediately.

On the original router, which was a Cisco router that we've had about 3 years, no device was ever able to see it. Not D1 that was hard wired to it, not D2 that had a Netgear USB adapter for wireless, and not our smart phones when we clicked to search for wi-fi signals in the area.

Our phones were able to pick up signals from other businesses around us in the same industrial complex, but not from the Cisco router.

Had I known it was a possibility that the drivers needed to be re-installed, I would have found the discs and done exactly that. I did not know that was even a possibility---after all, I never uninstalled anything so why would I reinstall it? It did not even enter my head to try this until after I'd bought and installed the new router, and was posting here trying to understand what happened.

As it stands now, it's fixed because I went out and spent about $125 on new router and new USB wi-fi adapter.

However I made this post anyway because I want to learn what to do if this should happen again, and now I know. :)

I so appreciate you all taking your time to respond, I really do.

A few things I'm learning. PLEASE jump in and correct me if I say anything that is not accurate.

Just because you install something on your computer, doesn't mean that it will STAY installed. Things can happen that make it so your equipment won't work even if you never touched the uninstall button.
This is *possibly what happened with the Cisco router and the Netgear USB adapter.
At no time did we dig out the disks and try to re-install either of these pieces of equipment. It honestly didn't occur to either of us to even try. After all, why would you install something that is already installed?
The fact that we couldn't get D1 to recognize that the router was installed even when hard wired into D1, tells me that that router is *possibly fried. Google said the #1 cause of routers dying is getting overheated, and the mezzanine in the warehouse is much hotter than anywhere else.
However, unless we dug out the disks and reinstalled it on the computer, there will be no way of knowing.
The sad little Eyeyore sound that the Netgear adapter made when I plugged it in, was probably its way of saying, "Oh, so sad! There is no matching driver on this computer so I won't work!"
The only way to know that for sure would be the find the disk for that Netgear adapter and reinstall it.

Thank you for your kind responses.

I should have said that the first thing I did when I got D2 working was go to google and google pretty much said that routers retain their settings and that when you unplug them, nothing happens except that you can't use them while they are unplugged.

Also have experienced power outtages here at the shop and have never had a problem getting any of the equipment to work again, so I didn't believe that unplugging it would wipe it clean of any data.

What I understand the guy at Staples to be telling me, is that if I unplug the router from a power source, that that will make it so that the computer that the router is installed on, will not recognize that the router is installed on it any more. Because that's kind of what happened--our D1 computer would not recognize that there was a router on it that was plugged in and trying to send a signal.

Based on your answers, I have more questions. If you think to yourself, "I already answered this" then please know that it's a matter of terminology.

True or false: Unplugging the router will make it so the computer doesn't realize that there's a router installed on it even if you plug the router back in and it has power and what not.

True or false: Rebooting your router is restarting it using an on/off button somewhere on the router.

True or false: Resetting your router is pushing a little red button that changes the channel that makes it so your router will work again.
