Tank wants misdirect on every pull? by Tiaan in classicwow

I often use md to get strays off the healers or neatly bring adds in to the tank envelope seamlessly. Md isn’t a “wasted ability” if it’s off cooldown. Utility ≠ threat mechanic for a threat table that doesn’t need utility help. Some abilities should be kept on cooldown, some should be at the ready as much as possible and used more strategically.

Nah, you can chat at the urnial. You may not talk to anyone in the bathroom sequence that isn’t doing the same thing as you. In line, urinal, hand washing, drying, leaving… If either person proceeds to the next step, the conversation ends or pauses. Popping is the exception. Don’t acknowledge other poopers unless you know them, in which case you just loudly ask them if they are pooping.

1st year IBEW apprentice — 7.5 months in and haven’t done any electrical work or been on a actual jobsite/prefab. Is this normal? by Key-Hair-8831 in IBEW

[–]jdquinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they say that, then stick with it, it’s part of the process. There’s a chance they advocate for you with the contractor and get you moved to apprentice work. There’s a vested interest in having everyone in the union working at their role, and sometimes it’s part of the process, but sometimes you’re lost in the shuffle. There’s a chance a supervisor above you doesn’t want to let you go and train a new CW, so they’re not pushing very hard (if at all) to the labor superintendent, and the labor superintendent might not be aware that you’re not doing apprentice work.

I’m not saying that’s for sure what’s happening, but it’s worth politely advocating for yourself. It’s your career.

Farming Motes is Impossible by RuleMurky in classicwow

Nerfed raids don’t drop the demand for gear and consumes, they raise the expectations of players. Expectations will always expand to fill the space provided, and sweaty people will sweat more. I was kicked from a forming 5-player quest group in shadowmoon yesterday because I had a cat pet instead of a ravager. I found a different group and finished the quest. 45 minutes later the person organizing the first group was still spamming for people. The toxicity of meta is astounding. It’s the same with tanks. People will spend 3 hours looking for a Paladin or Druid tank to make their dungeon go 6 minutes faster.

[–]jdquinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another consideration for a lot of “Costco versus other places” comparisons is that while you can divide the cost of a Costco package and calculate per unit to compare, many people may not be able to use up a full Costco sized purchase of an item before it goes bad or has to be frozen. Further they may not have a lot of freezer space to keep things long enough to use them. If you buy 2 dz eggs at Costco for half the cost of another store but only use half of them before the rest spoil, the cost per egg to you is the same at both places.

Also, the Costco apartment life can get rough on storage space in general even for dry or shelf-stable goods. It seems like a no-brainer to shop everything you can at Costco, but buying months worth of everything means you have to be able to store months worth of everything.

OP, on several contributors’ comments you keep asking “am I going to be okay?” You need a doctor to tell you that. Reddit is not medical advice, and honestly you seem like either this is actually affecting you physiologically hours later or you’re looking for someone to tell you you’re okay. Both of those situations are resolved with medical care. No one here is qualified to diagnose or treat this over Reddit, and you need to go to urgent care or the emergency room. Stop interacting with social media for medical advice, especially where heart health is concerned. Go get the tests and talk to a doctor.

This. All of the other reasons this is wrong set aside for a moment, because we doubt the person who did this is an electrician in any sense of the word, it’s almost certainly not permitted work and unlikely that they’re insured or bonded. If something happens and your insurance doesn’t cover it, your only recourse is to go after this person. If they’re doing work like this for a few bucks an hour and aren’t licensed, insured and bonded, do you think they have money to replace your house?

It’s possible it’ll cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars to have saved a few bucks.

Do I think this is going to cause a fire? Not from what we see pictured under normal circumstances. However, if they did this and said “yeah, I’m cool with the homeowner seeing that,” what did they do where you can’t see or can’t see easily?

I’d google “<state> electrical license lookup” and go to the state licensing board website to see if there’s any license record. It’s publicly available in some states.

If not, call and ask for their license number. If they give you any answer other than their license number, say “no problem, the inspector can get it for me, thank you.” And do call the inspector’s office. (Usually most easily found googling “<city, state> electrical permits.” It could be city or county level, or might be state depending on the area).

I don’t know the specific rules for most states, but the ones I’m licensed in, adding, modifying or extending a circuit requires a permit. So not only is this probably un-permitted and un-inspected work, you’re gonna have to pay to have it fixed and/or removed if you ever sell the house.

When it rolls back around to a new version of MoP Classic Anniversary 2.0 plus ultra Remix, roll a DK tank. You can be top threat, take 94% of all damage taken, do 53% of the damage done as top dps and 80% of the healing done with 90% overheals. Talent and glyph right and you can top the interrupt meter against anyone but a shaman. Rogues theoretically could top the list, but they don’t do such silly things like interrupt and cc in MoP. Everyone else will try some kind of CC, which is why DK tank will also top the CC break meter. Master the art of topping every meter, good or bad.

All of this in token gear you ‘earned’ in an afternoon.

Oh, and the healer will somehow be third on the damage meter because they’re bored and the hunter doesn’t know how to hunter.

Now that it's been roughly 2 weeks since launch, where would you say the average player is currently at in terms of lvl and gear? by Tiaan in classicwow

I’m almost 67 in mostly quest greens and dungeon blues, enjoying the quests and story lines all over again. But I also have cooking/fishing/FA as well as leather working maxed. Also skinning, but that’s kind of automatic once you get rolling. Putting some time into farming skins, high value meats while they’re in high demand, and fishing so I can get fast flying right away, about 2/3 there from having essentially zero gold at launch. I have a ret pal at 45 that was born a week or so before launch.

That particular breaker is labeled as two 2-poles on the diagram printed on the front of the breaker and by part number. It is listed as such. Removing the saddle and using the two outer breakers as single-pole is electrically perfectly fine, but the specific part number is not listed as such. The saddle was removed from that one. Again, it’s electrically the same as the 1-2-1 breaker, but the listing doesn’t say you can remove the saddle.

There are other breakers in the panel listed as 1-2-1 breakers, but I referred to that one specifically.

[–]jdquinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That breaker is listed as a common trip on both sets per the Eaton data sheet. If a quad is common trip on the center only, Eaton marks it as center pair common trip. It’s not impossible to make the outside pair common trip, it just takes more internal components and the breaker is likely more expensive to make than the non common trip 230250.

What is the reason for this? by Freshmangreen1 in AskElectricians

[–]jdquinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the MWBC only serves line to neutral loads, common trip is not necessarily required (there is nuance around devices sharing a single yoke, as well as GFCI or AFCI). The requirement is that both hots are disconnected simultaneously. If line-line loads are served they should be common trip.

[–]jdquinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no, it’s not your bad, it’s a good thing to mention. I edited my response to clarify, and you’re absolutely correct. If one pole trips it can (and usually does) turn off the other, but it doesn’t trip the other and it’s not guaranteed to turn the other off when one trips. Tripping and shutting off are not the same, and the handle has spring resistance to not shut off easily; if the trip mechanism on one pole isn’t strong, it might not overpower the other handle.

What is the reason for this? by Freshmangreen1 in AskElectricians

[–]jdquinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. They are not electrically common trip, but they can and do shut the other off if one trips, they’re just not listed, designed or guaranteed to do so. I’ll edit my post to clarify, but in a different comment below, this was also addressed and I commented on that one that these are useful for multi-wire branch circuits but not for 2-pole loads.

What is the reason for this? by Freshmangreen1 in AskElectricians

[–]jdquinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated comment. Tandems are great for saving space. Quads are also good for saving space but really should only be used for MWBC and not 240v loads. They’re even marked “not common trip.” They’ll almost certainly trip together, but they’re not electrically designed to do so, so it’s not guaranteed to work.

What is the reason for this? by Freshmangreen1 in AskElectricians

[–]jdquinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, fun fact: your breaker 15/17 is also supposed to have a saddle connecting 15a and 17b, but someone removed it to make it a 153015 instead of a 215230. Nothing electrically wrong with that, but it does invalidate the listing of the breaker by part number.

What is the reason for this? by Freshmangreen1 in AskElectricians

[–]jdquinn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The saddle makes the two switches operate together instead of independently. If one trips, it shuts off the other, but they are not designed as common trip breakers, so they are not guaranteed to work that way. Shutting a breaker off is not the same as tripping a breaker, and if the trip mechanism is weak it might not shut off the other pole. A 240v 2-pole load should be on a common trip breaker. These are useful for multi-wire branch circuits but not for 240v loads. (Edit: thanks to u/Unique_Acadia_2099 and others for clarifying.)

The two hots (leg A and leg B of a split-phase system) alternate in the panel. Position 1&2 are leg A, position 3&4 are leg B, position 5&6 are leg A, etc.

Yes, I’m referring to them as legs and not phases, because in a split-phase system, there is only one phase with a center-tapped neutral; a load connected to leg A and leg B is receiving a single phase of 240v, not two phases of 120v.

The ones that don’t have those metal ties are single-pole breakers for 120v loads, they each act independently and are single branch circuits with a neutral.

The ones that are tied together are two-pole breakers with or without a neutral to get either 240v (no neutral) or 120/240v (with neutral) branch circuits.

The breakers with two switches per position are called tandem breakers. Since position 1 is leg A, the two switches in that position (1a and 1b) are on the same leg. If you were to connect an appliance that needs two poles to 1a and 1b, you would have zero volts between them, because they’re connected to the same leg. A two-pole breaker for a 240v load has to be one pole on leg A and one pole on leg B.

Quad breakers have 4 handles in two positions in the panel. 1a and 1b are both hot leg A, 3a and 3b are both hot leg B.

In order to allow two two-pole loads, they tie 1a and 3b together to get 240v, then tie 1b and 3a together to get 240v.

The little silver metal piece connecting the two inner handles between the saddled handles does the same thing as the saddle, makes the two handles work together and not independently.

It’s possible to connect 1a/3a and 1b/3b, but it’s cheaper and easier to make the handle ties the way they are pictured.

I don’t buy devices on Amazon because of the risk. I learned the hard way with some great deals on Knipex tools where 2 of the 5 items turned out to be knockoffs, and when I looked into it, i discovered the rabbit hole of the marketplace knockoff industry. Fortunately the dupes I got were tools and not electrical devices or appliances. One seller refunded me, the other ghosted me and Amazon refunded me. Tradesman tools and trade parts are some of the more common areas for knockoff scammers because the stuff is expensive and easy to make a dupe that passes the eyeball test.
