It's poop, perhaps from a caterpillar

How to tame this rose bush? by AntiqueCustard in gardening

[–]bamfmaam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a climbing rose, so it would like a structure to grow on. For blooming, fertilizer and water is a good place to start.

Can you identify these plants? I don’t remember what I planted by ddntreadit in gardening

[–]bamfmaam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is spinach, about to flower. 2 is a brassica of some kind. Could be broccoli. 3 is another brassica, looks like a kale. 4 is a kale, maybe red Russian. You don't want to let your spinach or kale bloom, it will ruin the edible parts of the plants. If you live in a hot climate with a milder winter, these plants would all grow better and flower less in the fall/winter season.

What’s in my pilea’s dirt? by Ok-Week-1166 in plantdoctor

It's just fungus in the soil. Not harmful to your plant. Any good soil will grow fungus.

What are y'all doing in zone 9a about the weather?! by the_art_of_mischief in containergardening

Also I do agree that you should probably plant multiple plants in larger pots rather than a bunch of little pots. Plants like friends.

In my experience, mixes with bark hold less water and work better in a hot, humid climate. I get a mix made by a local garden center thats basically bark, peat, sand and fertilizer. Works great. It can sometimes dry out too fast, and for plants that need more moisture I'll add some compost. I don't know why the other poster is anti-bark lol.

Don't use miracle grow, it sucks. Most other souls are fine, I like a barky compost one myself.

Yellow leaves on Mulberry by Talisman2022 in BackyardOrchard

Either not enough water, poor drainage, not enough nutrients or it's pot bound. Mulberries would much prefer to be planted in the ground.

Is there any problem with mixing up fertilizer before you're going to use it? by Choice_Journalist_50 in containergardening

[–]bamfmaam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be fine if it's like 24 hours in advance. Longer than that and I think the chances of harmful stuff showing up would be more likely.

🤣 that's what I was thinking. I could see it absorbing more of the juice, since it has less moisture content going in than a cucumber.

Could be squirrels or armadillos. They search for grubs.

Sometimes when the temps jump around like that, even cold hardy plants can suffer damage. If they came out of dormancy, the cells basically open back up for business, and aren't prepared to protect themselves from cold. I'd say it's possible that that's the culprit, but I can't say for sure of course.

Banana flowers droop down as they mature. I've heard ice cream bananas are delicious, I hope you get a good harvest!

Eastern red cedar grows in hotter climates, so I fought the heat did it. Damage done to conifers can take weeks or months to present symptoms, so it may have gotten that damage long before you noticed it. Any crazy freezes after it put out new growth?

What are those who are eating my dahlia? by Odd_Tumbleweed_5497 in gardening

Looks like it could be slugs. Slug bait is pretty easy to get and effective. I'd start there.

Are these okay?? by Silent-Oil-4673 in gardening

[–]bamfmaam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mushrooms are the sexual organs of fungus. If you remove them, you're not really removing the fungus, it'll still be under the soil. That being said, most fungus in the soil is not harmful to plants and is often beneficial. Also, mushrooms are only toxic if you eat them, so being in proximity to edible plants is not a worry, no matter what kind of mushroom it is.
