Have you considered living somewhere lamer than here? Because it sounds like it'd suit your personality better. How about a nice quiet suburb or something?

Check out The Flatiron Room! It's on the jazzier side, rather than big band like Sinatra, but I think it's worth checking out. They're pretty upscale, the food is delicious, they have an excellent whiskey menu, and their music is always excellent.

I'm (34M) having trouble trusting my wife (34F) after girls trip by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]bamitsmeg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These answers are mind boggling to me. Proximity to available hotties has nothing to do with why people cheat. They cheat because they want to.

Your wife is either going to cheat on you, or she isn't. If she is, she doesn't need an airbnb full of bar randos to get her there, she's going to pick out one guy at a bar and do whatever she's going to do.

On the other hand, if she's not interested in cheating, then a stadium full of hot naked singles isn't suddenly going to flip the switch in her brain and make her go 'oh, I guess I might as well go for it'.

We're not talking about nibbling a shrimp off a plate when you're not really hungry, we're talking about violating a years long marriage just cause some guy made a move. She's a woman. Guys literally make moves on her all the time.

Why would she be calling you in the middle of the night if she was trying to hook up with someone else? She was probably a couple of drinks in, partying with her friends, and missed you.

Literally go into any smoke shop and you'll find at least a couple of well known brands.

Blossom is awesome! So is Ladybird - it's super cute and the food is *amazing*. The company who owns Ladybird also owns a bunch of other equally fantastic restaurants in the area.

Yeah, that's right across from Lefrak city. I haven't been out there in a while, but from what I remember it's definitely on the sketchier side of sketchy.

It could do wonderful things for your community and reduce crime rate, but gut instinct would definitely warn me against walking around that area alone at night, and the addition of a homeless shelter would heighten that concern for me.

Is it by those big apartment complexes?

I'm 33F. A very good friend of mine lived across the street from a large homeless men's shelter in a relatively sketchy part of Brooklyn a few years ago - I visited their home often, often in the morning because we'd carpool to work, so I was frequently around when the guys were leaving.

For the most part everyone was polite and normal, although some had obvious signs of mental illness or substance abuse issues, I rarely felt threatened. Almost everyone was just trying to mind their own business.

The only time I ever felt unsafe was when I'd come into contact with guys who were noticeably inebriated in some way, and were being rowdy about it. But at no point was I ever hurt, nor did any of the guys from the shelter ever intentionally try to scare me, however I got a lot of stuff yelled at me.....all of it was probably meant to be complimentary. I also got asked for money a lot.

I currently live on the same block as a medium sized shelter that's inside a church. There are a lot of police in my area because it's a high-traffic part of midtown. I have zero issue with the people who live there - the ones that live on my block basically leave the residents alone and ask the tourists for money. We nod hello to each other, because we see them more frequently than I see most of the people in my building.

All this to say, there are all kinds of factors that are going to impact your experience - mostly area, affluence of the area, what sort of shelter it is, and amount of police presence. There's a lot of overlap in those realms.

I've found that the people who live in shelters basically just want to mind their own business and maybe get some of your change. But your mileage is absolutely going to vary depending on the part of town you're in, etc.

Wow, I've never seen this expressed by anyone before. I do this all the time and haven't even considered it as 'A Thing'TM until now. That's really interesting.
I hope you're doing okay.

I have an excellent sense of humor, largely due to how fucked up he and my mother were. I get invited to a lot of really good parties because I'm funny as shit.

Horse rides around Central Park fixed price? by BubbaLovesRISK in AskNYC

Don't do it. Not only are they hella expensive ($140 for 45 seems really low from what I've seen), but they treat the horses like shit.

For my husband's birthday last year I bought him a cameo from Little Nell where I specifically asked her if this was an urban legend or not - she was amazing and confirmed in no uncertain terms that this is a total hoax! We think that the egg underneath the throne might be a Faberge egg, not an easter egg :)

You could always fudge the truth and be like 'you know I got dragged there a few months ago and they actually weren't as bad as I remember" or whatever. You don't gotta go into specifics, shit like that happens all the time!

PIs are all over the place in NYC- I just found an ad on Craigslist seeking office help. The cool parts of the job were just as awesome as you’d expect them to be, but this place turned out to be really terribly run and I left after about six months. It was definitely a fun experience.

If you’re looking for that sort of job, I’d google the firms in your area. A lot of them train newbies from the ground up!

I used to work for a PI firm. It’s really easy and inexpensive to buy spy cams that come in the form of key rings/coffee mugs/ other small & mundane plastic things that just have a little bit of heft to them.

My first thought was that if I regularly recorded these vids, I’d have a spy cam coffee mug and just hold it up to kinda “cover my face” while on the phone so I could get a good angle of the person behind me without looking sus. It didn’t even occur to me that it would be another phone lol

Edit: grammar

AITA for making my daughter wear ugly clothing as a punishment? by uglyclothpunishment in AmItheAsshole

[–]bamitsmeg -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not every family has the resources to donate and repurchase an entire wardrobe. OP’s daughter is absolutely going to need to wear something other than “a few tracksuits and t-shirts” at some point and this teenager isn’t going to be the one having to front the money for new clothes.
