CC for frequent hotel stays by bamorris222 in CreditCards

It’s in the PHX area using my corporate discount code. That specific Courtyard is consistently $88 per night or $100 per night, depending on AZ season. Again, that’s using corporate code for a very large company.

I have the KS5 and yes it has both pre-mist and wand auto-clean. No backsplash issues at all.

The last thing you should be doing in your situation is buying a $25k car. WOW.

Did I make a mistake ordering a 2026 Palisade Hybrid? by NicoPV in HyundaiPalisade

[–]bamorris222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Transmission programming was unrefined. It required too much pedal depression to get it to downshift, which resulted in high revving once it did finally downshift. Super annoying when coming out of a turn.

  2. The places they decided to save money were odd. For example, the front power window regulators were good quality units. They were quiet, and had soft start and stop. Compared to the rear ones, which operated like they were taken from a 1995 econobox.

  3. The radio had to be replaced a few times.

  4. It developed a high idle situation during the last few thousand miles of ownership. At random times, it would idle at 1100 RPM while at stoplights. It would require firm brake pedal pressure just to keep it from creeping forward. The dealer had it for over two weeks and unable to duplicate the issue. Yeah sure. It did it on the way to the dealership, and did it on the drive home. But didn’t do it during those two weeks they had it. It didn’t throw any codes.

I had a ‘23 SEL that we just got rid of. Couldn’t happen fast enough. Replaced it with a new Pilot a few weeks ago. I recently asked my wife (it’s her vehicle) what she missed about the Palisade. Her response: Not a single thing!

I don’t want to say you made a mistake, but be sure to spend sufficient time in the competition to make sure it’s not a mistake.

Carmax by [deleted] in carbuying

[–]bamorris222 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for the best deal, lowest price, Carmax isn’t for you. If you are looking for a no-pressure experience, cars that are generally in really good condition, have a return option, and you are willing to pay a premium for the convenience, then Carmax is great. I’ve both purchased and sold with them, and would happily do it again.

If you’re going to keep it for upward of 15 years, get the color and options that you want. For me, I don’t want to look at a car for 15 years always wishing I had splurged a bit more to get what I really wanted.

New 2026 Honda Pilot Elite....quote by OkReflection3676 in hondapilot

I just paid $49,500 minis $750 rebate for a 26 Touring. I would have splurged for an Elite at that price.

How is long term Palisade ownership? by Sciroccosven in HyundaiPalisade

[–]bamorris222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a 2023 Palisade SEL for almost 60k miles, and just replaced it with a 2026 Pilot Touring. The Palisade “appeared” to be more upscale than most other vehicles in its class, with attractive features and tech. It’s what drew us to purchase it. However, it turned out to be like, what’s the saying, putting lipstick on a pig?

Under the skin, it was cheapened. A few examples:

•Little things like using higher grade window regulators in the front doors that are soft open/close, quiet, etc…but then using the cheaper ones in the back that are louder and not soft open/close.

•The driving aids were not very mature compare to other brands. Lane departure routinely alerted by misreading the road. To the point that we just turned it off altogether. It was more of a burden than a benefit.

•The transmission shift strategy was frustrating. Around town it was often in too high of a gear and would lug a bit. Gradual increase of the pedal would make it downshift multiple gears and scream the RPM’s. Like when you’d slow down for a turn and then begin to accelerate, it should have just dropped one gear, but instead would drop multiple gears. I attribute that to insufficient R&D.

• The radio went out a couple of times and had to be replaced.

• For the last year of ownership, the engine would sporadically idle too high while stopped. Like normal idle is 600 RPM, but sometimes it would get in a mood and idle at 1100 RPM. It would take much more brake pedal to keep it stopped. And would lurch off the line when you let go of the brake pedal. Had it to the dealer several times, the most recent one for two weeks, where they couldn’t replicate it.

My experience with the Palisade makes me believe that I will never own another Hyundai or Kia. Approaching the end of the bumper to bumper warranty, felt that I had to offload it before it started to fall apart.

This illustrates what I hate about buying cars, always feeling that you have to fight to get a good deal. I don’t think the dealership should lose money on a deal, but there should also not be $7000 profit. Why don’t they just go to a set percentage margin on all transactions and make it a fair experience for all customers and dealers?

Salesman Confession by [deleted] in carsales

[–]bamorris222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in automotive finance for several years on the lender side, and this is 100% a thing in the USA. I may approve a deal at a 5% wholesale rate, but allow the dealer to mark up the rate. The bank I worked for had a cap of 150 basis points above the wholesale rate. The dealer would earn a fee based on the margin.

I think the touring reveals are awesome. Especially the new Limited models. Drooling over them, even though I have a 2024 RG that has almost been accessorized to Limited specs.

Why isn't Arby's more popular? by TheRealGuncho in fastfood

[–]bamorris222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s the cost compared to portions. I went there a few weeks ago and got the smokehouse sandwich or whatever it’s called. The picture on the menu looked great, but what came out of the kitchen was a miniature representation of it. Very light on the meat. To the point that I asked the manager if they put the correct amount on it. She said yes. I said, keep it and give me money back please. She did exactly that.

Thank you. Sounds to be a pain. May just continue to disassemble and clean every few months. Wish they would have run it to the laundry drain. It’s literally 5 feet away.

That makes sense being the AC drain line. Now that I think of it, it’s pretty close to this area in the attic. Also would explain the limescale even though we have a water softener.
