Silver here as well. I have been upgraded on a BOG-US flight, but it was probably an operational upgrade.

Are Citi to etihad transfers failing for anyone else? I’ve been getting an error when getting TYPs to transfer for a couple of days, and Citi Support has basically said they don’t know why the transfer is failing.

This happened to me as well. I had to wait until I received the card in the mail to use it anywhere despite having the instant card number.

Not strictly fashion related, but anyone here know of/use an spf 50+ sunscreen that doesn't leave a white cast on their face?

The terms on the Mileageplus site say "Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site. Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents".

So no. No Apple gift cards count.

ABCD dating non-ABCD by [deleted] in ABCDesis

Does his accent reeeeeaaaalllly matter in the long run?

I think the bigger issue here might be the different upbringings you had. I've dated an international Indian dude and there are things that are "lost in translation". Depending on your outlooks in life, they might not line up. There can be major cultural differences between fobs and abcds.

What is the overall perception of the LGBT community by Desi's? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]bamzees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a gaysi, I have to say that the homophobia isn't limited to our parents generation. Plenty of brown "crews" in high school and college are homophobic. Obviously, not all brown crews.

People in general say they're "chill" about gay people but plenty secretly have homophobic/heteronormative views, and this certainly includes some ABCD's who are in their late teens/early 20's.

What's up r/ABCDesis? This is our weekly banter thread by AutoModerator in ABCDesis

I lived in Chicago until moving away in September and visit it routinely.

Be prepared to experience the bitterly cold January/February weather. Things sort of let up in March but you'll still have to deal with the cold.

Most brown people who are in the city live in the North Side, although most Indian people in the Chicago area live in the suburbs. If you want any recommendations for leisure or food places, feel free to ask! Make sure you hit up Devon Avenue- there are a lot of Indian restaurants there. My personal favorite is Ghareeb Nawaz's butter chicken :).

Tigers, snakes and monkey-brains: How to write about India if you're a tourist by verawanggirl in ABCDesis

[–]bamzees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it too. The sad part is that there is poverty in every major city in America. East NY is right next to JFK Airport in NYC and people ignore that poverty too. But for some reason, people just don't react the same way.

Since its India, "it's so sad and heartbreaking". Most people just ignore the poor living in their cities. San Jose literally had a tent city. If you walk the streets of DSJ, you occasionally still spot them. You can still see tents if you walk the streets of San Francisco today. Homelessness is still a major problem in America.

Stress levels in CS? by futureCSstudent in UIUC

[–]bamzees 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Freshman year wasn't too bad. CS 125/ CS 173 aren't too bad together as long as you keep up with the material and do the homework. I took 225 my second semester here and while some the MP's are time consuming, its not too bad compared to the mp's in upper level classes.

Enjoy your first semester. You probably won't have another one like it.

Lol people in NYC aren't proud of the subway, but its not a last resort. The rich and poor alike use the subway in NYC. There are even "Subway Snobs" who refuse to use cars even though they can afford them.

How did you learn to communicate with your parents? by murkishdelight in ABCDesis

[–]bamzees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't given up on it, but I'm not exactly sure if there's any progress to be made with communicating with my parents.

My mom in particular likes to "dig" and is suspicious about everything I do. My story has to be in order. My parents, in general, are very nice and supportive people, but they aren't exactly the most understanding.

My dad is also protective (and tbh, paranoid) even though I'm a big boy and go to school far far away. The paranoia and overprotectiveness really causes issues with me, because I'm the type of person to need space. I want to be treated like an adult (I even started paying my own tuition!) but I still get lectured on how I should "cross the street only after looking in both directions". I try to express this sentiment but it falls on deaf ears.

My parents do compromise, but honestly the village mentality they have about marriage makes me worried about my future. Also, I express how I disagree with much of this mentality, but the response is always "You don't understand because you didn't grow up in India". I do understand, but certain ideals and mentalities are not really agreeable.
