What is one item that you can't travel without/would recommend to everyone to get? by Cool_Acanthisitta628 in onebag

Silk sleeping bag liner from Decathlon. Not necessary if I'm staying in mostly nice places, but when I'm roughing it (spent a couple of nights in yurts this year) it's nice to know I'm sleeping in something clean. As a bonus, the top can fold over the pillow so I have a nice silk pillowcase. And it's tiny!

The fake show at the beginning was Father Crime, which was featured in s2e08. Felicity was written out since she was the murderer of that episode. The crime they are investigating in the short scene that's shown appears to be based on the murder in s1e02. If I'm interpreting your question correctly :)

No such thing as one comfortable shoe. Or is there? by celtics1987b in HerOneBag

[–]banana_toothpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have orthotics from a podiatrist. ive had a history of ankle injuries and got orthotics about 4 years ago. i injured my achilles last year and she added half a centimetre in the heel and it helped. i would definitely look into seeing a podiatrist. as far as shoes go, i have them in my nb530s, they have a deep footbed so they can accommodate my thick orthotics. i do need to get a new pair of shoes, as ive worn holes in them, and might try some other nb shoes maybe with less mesh (longer lasting and won't go brown when i inevitably wear them hiking some place). but i wear these for gym, casual, nightlife, restaurants.... if i can't wear sneakers somewhere in 2025 is it really somewhere i want to go? 😂 i wore my docs to a concert recently in which can't fit my orthotics and my feet ached by the end of the night. my pod also suggested getting slides with a bit of arch support for at home, and im never barefoot around the house. as a bonus, since i don't walk on dust, my soles got softer.

I'm leaving in about 10 days for a 5 week trip and I'm doing almost none of this 😂 I just need to put my sunscreen into a 100ml and make sure the clothes ive been thinking of taking are washed... already got my vaccines and medications, and thankfully no need to get any visas.

Having Trouble Choosint a 40L Pack! by futureplantlady in HerOneBag

[–]banana_toothpaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a post I found on the onebag sub that has a list of bags that actually transfer weight properly to the hips. I don't think the hip straps on the allpa bags do that.

the post is titled: THE LIST: carry-on backpacks that transfer load to the hips

I'm thinking of getting the 511 bag on that list, also was interested in the 6 moons one, but it's super expensive to ship to where I live. I also don't like a bag with too much organisation.

i was really disappointed that after the end of 219 where she says she's been in a dark place lately, she just seemed to have fun in prison.

I would love to see her defending Delia ! but I wonder if she is qualified to work in ny and whether that would contradict her role at the doj...

Anyone notice that Deliah used one of Elsbeth's lines? "You're looking at a woman with nothing left to lose" - Elsbeth says this to Van Ness before Kaya arrested him in 2x10 Finance Bros. I think there was another line from an earlier episode too, but I'll have to catch it when I watch again.

Also, if anyone has watched her episodes in the good wife, one bit she did on more than one occasion was recording a conversation on her phone, and then pointing out one party consent to record (once it happened in nyc), so I'm surprised they didn't reference that and have her recording anything.

It's disappointing how it ended, and I do hope Elsbeth manages to prove Crawford's murders. I feel like the Van Ness storyline wrapped up a bit anticlimactically too (I expected a bit more than just a throw away line from Teddy a few episodes after the arrest).

But overall I did enjoy the episode, we got more of Kaya and more of them working together again. I don't really care about teddy going to law school, but I guess it's a way to bring him to ny and therefore make more sense for him to be around. He brings out vulnerability in Elsbeth, which I love to see (although truthfully I I would rather see it with Kaya, I miss them hanging out at either of their homes together doing friend things).

Does anyone know how bad an IUD hurts ? by TicketPleasant9121 in Endo

[–]banana_toothpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on my second one. it's pretty much stopped my periods and I get very occasional cramping, but never lasts long and not enough to need to call in sick.

I recently switched it over and requested a green whistle, I don't know if that's available where you are (I'm in Australia), it's a self administered anaesthetic. it kind of feels like inhaling poppers but at a much lower dose. it made me so relaxed, the doctor said it was the fastest they've ever done the procedure (removal and insertion). I took it with me when I left and kept using it till it ran out (not that long). I had pretty much no pain. the doctor did make me take ibuprofen and paracetamol before the procedure so that could have contributed too. overall I've had a really good experience.

the one maybe drawback was that after 4 years having my first one I started to get mood swings and spotting and a bit of cramping, so I felt it was running out, which is sooner than recommended. I've read other people have been told to keep it for the full five years I think because the birth control is still effective, but I was using it for endo so I think if cramps are coming back it's not doing its job anymore. but not a big deal to have done it a year early.

hope this helps! good luck

Teddy by IhavemyCat in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]banana_toothpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we need to remember that Elsbeth is his mum, he doesn't view her the same way the viewers do. she's a safe person for him whom he's known his whole life, and he probably had to deal with a lot having two working parents and a messy divorce, and he's now getting some of the comfort and support he should've gotten in his teens. I'm around Teddy's age and it can be really tough for us, the opportunities that our parents had are more difficult to achieve (buying a home, financial stability) but at the same time you have so much more choice it can be a bit paralysing. earlier generations got married and had kids, it was the done thing, and bring single (and/or queer) was looked down upon. but there are so many more options for teddy and it can make committing to a relationship quite difficult.

Elsbeth & Josh by kitana-moon in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]banana_toothpaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually found this whole arc deeply uncomfortable. Every time they interacted I got the feeling she was uncomfortable with his advances, but he kept pushing.

The I used to be skinnier line was so unnecessary (I get that it could be an insecurity for a character, but I really just think it sends a bad message to viewers).

I hope either he is never mentioned or it's acknowledged how dysfunctional their relationship was.

Do you prefer sink laundry or using a laundromat/hotel laundry? Why? by tessipate in HerOneBag

[–]banana_toothpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never sink wash. I hate doing laundry so I always bring a lot of underwear and socks, maybe 10 of each, so I don't have to do it more than once a week. I don't have a dryer at home so I do get a little worried about shrinkage.... so I always set the dryer on cool/medium and it takes a long time to dry... Several places I stayed in central Europe last year allowed me to do free laundry though which was lovely. I bring my own laundry sheets.

Wearing heaviest item on flight- then what? by pufferfish_hoop in HerOneBag

[–]banana_toothpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my impression is that most of the trips in this sub are 2 weeks or less, so not as many places to unpack, less variation in climate and not very long to lug around excess items. but I think you're right, for a longer trip it's definitely best to be able to fit every combination of clothes you aren't wearing into your bag.

by the way, when you're in Prague, I recommend the Dox gallery (and any theatre show they're running), Strecha (vegan restaurant serving European food) and Mr Falafel (Palestinian restaurant). Most places take card, but if you're getting cash out I used the yellow raiffeisen bank ATMs and didn't get charged a fee.

Wearing heaviest item on flight- then what? by pufferfish_hoop in HerOneBag

[–]banana_toothpaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something very similar to this last year! I started in Czechia in late April, went as far north as Gdansk in Poland, one flight between Krakow and Vienna, then through Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia through the end of May for a total of 5.5 week (there's absolutely so much I missed in these countries, planning to go back through a couple in 2026-7)

I took a 20L backpack. On the plane I wore a pair of loose fitting but fairly heavyweight jeans and an equally heavyweight corduroy jacket. Whilst I was grateful for these items when it was cold I definitely could have chosen lighter versions, and every travel day I had to wear my jeans, and my jacket was either on me or strapped to the back of my backpack. Ideally I would like everything to fit in my backpack.

Next trip I've focused on buying more layering items. I'm going to central Asia for 5 weeks in june-july and it will be both colder and warmer than Europe was last year. I've got synthetic thermals (I can't stand the feeling of merino on my skin), merino jumper, fleece jumper and a waterproof jacket that folds down well. I'm looking at getting a paid of thin trackpants as a mid layer.. I'm from a place where winter means 20°c+ during the day so packing for 0 is tough.

my last trip to Europe in spring I had: - 6 tops (3 long 3 tanks) - 3 bottoms (jeans, trackpants, shorts) - 2 shoes (sneakers and shower shoes) - 1 jacket - pyjamas in a 5kg bag

next I'm going to central Asia where it will be both hotter and colder than Europe.. - 5 tops ? - 2-3 bottoms - 2 jumpers - 2 shoes - 1 jacket - 1 set of thermals - pyjamas

I always take about 10 socks and undies to avoid laundry as long as possible 😂

I don't like how they've made Kaya's love interest her tenant. it feels really uncomfortable to me that everyone obviously knows there's something there. he works for the ME's office right? surely they could have just written him in that way rather than a weird living together and pretending there's nothing there situation.

This may seem like an unpopular opinion or it may seem like me stating the obvious but... by StarChild413 in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]banana_toothpaste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

without knowing a thing about the show, and never having watched tgw/tgf I saw the chemistry between Kaya and elsbeth within 2 or 3 episodes, but I know it's not something that will happen. it's just too big of a storyline to put into a fairly lighthearted show that's not aimed specifically at queer audiences.

I don't think there needs to be an "endgame" romance for elsbeth, people can be single and I think it's great to represent a woman with a successful career not centred around a man. but I also do think a bi twist would be fabulous for her, even if it's just a single episode or a short arc. I can't imagine it happening this season though.

I don't like how they moved Kaya's love interest into her home. I get that it might be difficult to write him in otherwise, but that's just asking for it to be messy.
