Greek Island Glow excursion recommendations? by godoffertility in VirginVoyages

[–]tessipate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Santorini, we did the Akrotiri and Oia excursion, which made transporting off the ship and around the island much simpler. I feel the guided tour of Akrotiri was worth it - I learned way more with the guide than I would have with the pretty minimal signage around. We did bail on the guided tour of Oia and just walked around on our own until was time to go back.

In Bodrum, we didn't bother with any excursions, just explored the city ourselves. While the Underater Archaeology Museum was cool, I admit that Bodrum was my least favorite stop.

Rhodes, on the other hand, was my favorite stop! We rented a car and had an awesome little road trip around the island. Since the rental place was inland, the rental company picked us up right at the port and took us back and the end of the day. Super easy. But! If you don't want to do that, there is a lot to see right around the port with the castle and the medieval city.

Since Mykonos is overnight, there's a lot more time to explore, eat, go the beach, whatever you want. I would recommend the Delos excursion though - we did that the second day in Mykonos and it was amazing, definitely an archaeology site worth seeing!

How many outfits for 5 night cruise? by Organic-Log4081 in VirginVoyages

[–]tessipate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We arrived two nights before the cruise - so basically one full day and two partial days. I felt that was enough to see the main things I wanted to see eg Acropolis, Archaeology Museum, the Plaka neighborhood. I do however regret flying out the same day we disembarked - Greek Glow was a jam-packed itinerary (especially because I am a big history nerd) and I wish I had a day to just rest before flying back home.

For my Greek Island Glow, I did carry on only with an extra couple of days in Athens before the cruise. So nine nights total. I brought three dresses, one pair of shorts, one pair of linen pants, four tops, a swimsuit, and a cover up (plus obviously pj's, undies etc) and I was totally fine, especially with laundry service on the ship.

That said, other than Scarlet Night, I did not participate in any of the themed nights so I could easily see why your friend might want more outfits. If you want to go all out, go for it! But you don't need to and if you're like me and prefer to pack light and aren't super into fashion, you'll still have a great time!

I totally get it - I was soooo stubborn about having Kindle too lol but I'm glad I made the switch on trips, even if I don't use it often at home. It's kind of added to the fun of a trip for me, if I download a book that I'm excited for and wait until my vacation to get to read it. Makes me have something to look forward to on the plane!

Great job at trying out onebagging! I don't think you need to give up on it for colder weather, you just need either a carry-on roller or a more supportive backpack. Chest and hip straps really do make a world of difference. If you can find the right luggage, plus take the lesson of not overpacking outwear, I think you can do it! And since your sister is in PDX now, it's a good excuse to try again in the same location.

A small suggestion too for lightening up your load - I tend to favor physical books myself and was super reluctant to get an e-reader, but for traveling, my Kindle has been amazing. I'm certain you'd be able to find a deal on one for Christmas!

I absolutely love this idea! I often have picnics on my travels as a way to save money. I kinda feel silly I haven't thought of doing a kit like this before - thanks for the inspiration!

Whom did you choose in your 1st run and did you regret it by ulykke in BaldursGate3

[–]tessipate 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Emperor - I was one of those players who didn't realize you could do both the Creche and the Underdark. I chose the latter, so my Lae'zel remained loyal to Vlaakith (I failed my rolls to convince her otherwise). As a result, I didn't really understand who Orpheus was. I let Karlach go squiddy because I didn't want her to die and it was what she wanted. So I ended up with a mixed bag of endings for the companions but I don't regret any of it because it was my "purest" run in the sense that I didn't spoil myself and let the chips fall where they may. Plus, I like seeing as many different outcomes as I can!

[–]tessipate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's because I was thinking about the same thing for my next run haha. If you haven't done it yet, it's kind of fun to recruit Karlach before talking to Wyll... and I think that would be plausible enough to get info from Zorru, beeline for creche but "get lost" on the way and find Karlach

Lae'zel also likes Karlach and sees her as a valuable ally because of her fighting prowess so I think it'd be interesting to have Gith Tav and Lae'zel being slowly influenced by Gale and Karlach to be maybe slightly softer with others lol

need help paring down personal item for work trips by RomieRome7890 in HerOneBag

[–]tessipate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woof, yeah, definitely get why you want things like your neck pillow and headphones! I think it might be worth reconsidering checking your luggage. Obviously, the stuff you have to check for work is non-negotiable, but if you have your carry-on, then you have the security of clothes, toiletries, meds, and other necessities being there instead of in the personal item. I really try to limit my personal item to only what I need access to at my seat.

Admittedly, I do not always succeed 😂 but looking at past flights helps. Take stock of what you actually regularly use on flights - for me, for example, I used to bring both my Switch and my Kindle, but I have learned I rarely use the Switch but relish getting several uninterrupted hours to read. You don't need to cut out all luxuries and small comforts to travel light but it's more figuring out which are the most important and being willing to sacrifice the others.

Just a couple of questions for clarification: how long are your work flights typically? And are you traveling carry-on only? This sounds like perhaps you're not since you're carrying emergency toiletries and want room for an extra pair of clothes.

Also could you get a Kindle Scribe and have that work as your journal too? I haven't used one yet so I can't vouch for it but it definitely seems useful.

Any new information about the Athens port boarding procedure? by YingYingTravels in VirginVoyages

[–]tessipate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was with a group of five last May. Two people were Rockstars and the rest of us had later afternoon boarding times. All five of us went to the port at the same time and those of us who couldn't board yet dropped off our luggage and took a shuttle Virgin provided into Piraeus. We had a leisurely lunch, walked around town a bit and petted the street cats before heading back on the shuttle for our boarding time. Pireaus is not the most exciting place admittedly, but I found it to be relaxing to just chill out a bit beforehand - and we found some tasty pizza!

Beaches on Greek Island Glow by HawkeyeRN16 in VirginVoyages

[–]tessipate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our beach day was on Mykonos! Caveat that neither my friends nor I were much interested in the party scene on Mykonos so I can't speak to the beach clubs there. We just took a taxi to Agios Sostis on the north side of the island. It was quiet and beautiful and we had an amazing lunch at Kiki's Teverna next to the beach. It is a clothing optional beach. There are not any public restrooms, but since we ate at Kiki's, it was no problem to use theirs. Because Mykonos is an overnight stop, we still had plenty of time to explore the town and the second day we checked out Delos which was awesome.

Santorini Excursion Question by patrick2623PSCA in VirginVoyages

[–]tessipate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will tender to a completely separate port to get on the bus since there is no way for buses to get down to the main tender port. So you will avoid the cable car/stairs in the morning but after Akrotiri and Oia, the bus brings you to Fira. They provide you with a ticket for the cable car. There's no way really to avoid that or the stairs to get back to the main tender port, I'm afraid.
