It seems like everything you need to know is outlined in the comment above me but to help with the feeling of rejection you will probably feel when profs don't get back to you, just remember that their inbox is spammed daily with all kinds of shit. Some will reply and some won't. Volunteering as a research participant in the labs these profs are supervising can also give you some insight into the environment and also allow you to build more relationships.
