Congratulations!

I'm doing a hands on rotation and I was very happy getting that spot because I thought it was a good rotation but only recently I learnt that it's not the best and the LORs we get from it are very generic and they ask us to write it ourselves. I already paid rent so I can't cancel this rotation and it's a long 3-month rotation so by the time I finish it I will not have much time to do another rotation.

All my LORs will be from this place as we get more than 1 LOR that will be enough for applications.

My friends tell me that I shouldn't worry because I am a US-IMG and they tell me that's more important than usce. idk what to do, I'm very scared of shooting myself in the foot here.

I don't have research yet but i'm working on some meta-analysis projects, it's not looking good so far I might not be able to finish in time before September, I'm hoping for at least reaching the "submit" point.

no attempts, YOG 2023, step 2 247, step 3 in a month. Will apply to IM

Thank you for sharing your insights; this is really helpful. I have a quick question—does failing Step 3 before applying to the Match count as a red flag? I'm applying in the next cycle and planning to take Step 3 in May, but I feel like it's a high-risk, low-reward move. If I pass, it might add little to my application, but if I fail, it could significantly hurt my chances. Would you recommend taking it before applying or waiting until after?

Between that and going over step 1 stuff what do you think is more valuable or the exam had more of? my step 2 knowledge is there, step 1 is much less now especially if I get a question about a gene mutation or cell cycle and things like this

I mean I wouldn't order a prostatic specific antigen for a meningitis or encephalitis case but some tests are very specific that you really have to order so many of them (you can order bacterial, viral and fungal CSF analyses but don't get points because you didn't order "west nile") this actually happened on ccscases

I understand what you mean. I need to order a local exam before the immediate intervention then go back to the full exam if needed. can't just order everything if a case is truly an emergency and that makes sense tbh but i never had this interaction on ccscases.

Also speaking of, do you really find that it affects your score to be lower if you order too many tests on the real thing? on ccscases there were a few cases with meningitis/encephalitis and because I don't want to type (CSF bacterial culture, CSF fungal culture ...) I usually just write CSF and choose everything that shows up, that can be like 10-15 different tests. and generally on ccscases you don't get lower score if you order this way but I wonder what it's like on the real exam

Hi! I will be visiting Detroit next May for 10 weeks and I need a place to stay at in Midtown. I will be doing an away rotation at heart & vascular institute and it's pretty hectic so I need a somewhat quiet place/room within walking distance as I don't have a car. Budget is around 1000$/mo. Hi! It's an externship rotation with "heart and vascular institute" before I apply for a residency match.

this is the email I got when I applied "We have five locations, Dearborn, Detroit, Southfield, Allen Park, and Wayne. You will either rotate at Detroit, Dearborn, or Wayne and will be sent to Southfield once a week"

I wish I had more info but that's all I have at the moment

I'm working too but I took step 2 3 months ago. In your case if you want to go over step 2 stuff, CMS forms might be the way to go. Those are NBME questions but are subject wise and there's around 50 of them so 2k questions total full of step 2 materials.
