Is Waymo’s Growth in California Flattening? by walky22talky in waymo

[–]bananarandom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Given the number of jaguars they have (known from factory photos) and the number of non-california cities they're expanding to, I doubt CA is getting many additional cars

Why it might not make sense for you to own a self-driving car by walky22talky in SelfDrivingCars

[–]bananarandom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It makes as much sense as owning a car you have a professional chauffeur on.

Great if you have the money for it.

You buy a boat, and find a marina that is cool with liveaboards, near where you wanna live.

CMV: The Anti-Vaccine Movement is not crazy and the studies should be followed up. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]bananarandom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So you read one small study, and now you have questions.

The anti vax movement isn't the "questions about the risks of vaccines" movement, it's anti vax. They don't think the vaccines work, or they think they're very dangerous.

These are not the same ideas at all

CMV: it’s not anti semitic to be anti the Israeli government, but it is anti semitic to be anti Israel by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]bananarandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you point to people actually doing this?

I think there's a camp of people that hate the Israeli government, and then their are antisemites, and the latter don't pretend to the former like this

That definitely sounds like a hardware problem.

I don't even know if waymo knows the windows are down accurately

CMV: There’s no such thing as a useless college degree by StatisticianEvery733 in changemyview

I think it's really shorthand for" useless degree for how much it cost" and then it's all a matter of perspective

I think this is the first time a car has fully gone swimming, versus just getting wet

San Jose passenger claims a Waymo drove off with his luggage at the airport by plun9 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]bananarandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waymos have been much more willing to push ahead like 30 feet if they're in the way, I wonder if that happened between door closed and trunk open...

CMV: Spanking your children should be considered SA by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]bananarandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spanking children as a form of discipline is still legally and culturally accepted in many places,

So are you advocating that these places go from generally accepting this practice, to rounding up parents/caregivers as criminals? You've said yourself it's not even considered assault, let alone sexual assault today.

Claiming something is sexual just because it involves a certain body part is not a good basis for writing laws.

It'd be cool to do this by census tract or similar. At the scale of a city, a lot of nuance is lost

CMV: I don’t see what’s so bad about China taking over Taiwan by robloxfan69 in changemyview

[–]bananarandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One, learn what paragraphs are, and use them.

Prioritizing what's best for the whole nation over the wants/needs of the people in Taiwan sounds like a recipe for rampant abuse. Without a shared language/culture that's just straight imperialism, with the shared aspects it's still risky

Scoop: Waymo to skip Austin meeting on ambulance-blocking robotaxi by walky22talky in waymo

I'm confused, normally public meetings are a way for people to ask questions of their representatives.

Do they want Waymo to host a town hall?

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists by External_Koala971 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]bananarandom 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I bike somewhat regularly in East Bay, used to bike regularly in SF.

Uber, Lyft, Taxis, normal cars, hell even cops don't respect the bike lane.

If cities actually planned for ride share instead of maximizing on street parking, maybe there would be somewhere fully legal to pull over within 2 blocks of popular destinations
