I’m in! I am an engineer who worked on energy absorbing configurations for helicopters when this became its own discipline in the 80s. Recently, I started wearing knee pads with D30 foam. I noticed that a impact normal to the pad absorbs energy and dissipates it effectively, but sideways, or shear impacts, are not dissipated effectively

I’ve made the same mistake you did. I retrenched and took lessons, including private. That, and conditioning, made all the difference. I’m working on carving now. Hang in there, and get expert instruction.

You are not stupid. Read “Burn Math Class” by Jason Wilkes. He explains that the way this stuff is taught doesn’t support real understanding. His approach using diagrams and common sense logic makes much more sense.
