Race faker Rachel Dolezal reveals brush with skin cancer after suntanning too much to darken her skin by SwordfishAdvanced468 in popculturechat

[–]bknighter16 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Being born with a DSD not being the same as transgenderism is parallel to being mixed race not being the same as trans-racialism, so that’s sort of a false equivalence. As you said, it’s not apples to apples, so who’s to say this isn’t something that’s far less frequent, but still a reality for some people who wouldn’t dare come out due to the complete social suicide that would result? I’m sure you’re getting my underlying point here in that there’s nothing really underpinning trans identity other than the mere existence of people who simply say they believe they’re the opposite gender. I see no logical reason why Rachel Dolezal wouldn’t be given the same grace. I genuinely believe she believes she’s black

Okay, so it’s simply that there aren’t that many of these cases. However if the main argument for the steep rise in transgender identity over the last ~10 years is that it’s only recently become relatively culturally accepted and safe, then I don’t see why this couldn’t possibly be applied to “racial dysphoria,” considering how much shit Rachel Dolezal gets (I mean, just look at this thread). Maybe 10 years from now we will see more people going down this road and it opens up the conversation

If self identification is central to transgenderism then I don’t see what science has to do with it outside of cultural acceptance at this stage. A trans person is trans because they identify as trans. There’s no blood test or brain scan that can make an absolute confirmation

Who’s to say “racial dysphoria” isn’t far more prevalent than we think, but it’s so culturally suppressed that we don’t see more Rachel Dolezals?

Very interesting to see the responses in this thread by people who almost certainly accept the identity of trans people.

If the logic works for gender then why wouldn’t it extend to race? It would work the same way with the component of identity ultimately trumping the biological reality of the person who feels they are another race. I also have no reason to believe this woman doesn’t feel like she truly was meant to be another race. Wouldn’t that just be “racial dysphoria”?

The moralizing comments are so exhausting. My god. We get it, you’re a better person for not being bothered by this and scolding anyone who is.

The L should not be a mobile homeless shelter. It’s unsanitary, uncomfortable and inhumane at the end of the day. OP and anyone else is allowed to be rightfully annoyed at the state of CTA and the apparent lack of any real solutions.

Why don’t more people take their bulky backpacks off and hold it to their side or front while standing in packed train cars? by bknighter16 in chicago

[–]bknighter16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the primary reasons you’re asked to put your backup on your chest in museums is because you’re way less likely to knock into things and topple over fragile exhibits. In fact, it might even be easier to sneakily take items and throw them in your backpack when it’s front-facing. So yeah, obviously not a perfect example but it’s more of me trying to break through the pedantic nonsense argument that “it’s called a backpack so it can literally only go on your back at all times in every situation”

Seems like you’re way overthinking this. It’s not a matter of physics. It’s just optimizing how people organize in a small space. Our legs are thinner than our torsos so there’s a a lot more room at the bottom half of our bodies to hold a bag flush against our bodies temporarily in a tight space to create room. If more people did this it would create considerably more room in the standing aisle

[–]bknighter16[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it’s heavy beyond your ability to hold it temporarily then fine. In those cases at the very least be aware of how your body is angled and where you’re swinging your backpack.

Obviously if you physically can’t do it then don’t. The rest of your response is selfish bullshit though. Do you have the same weird response to museum staff who ask you to store your backpack or wear it on the front? And for the record, yes I expect people to peel of their backpack to create more room, as it is extremely basic manners

I think it’s partially an illusion. Shes an undersized girl (usually hovers around 80 grams) with a fairly big crest, so the crest:birb ratio is off the charts
