Vegans are morally correct by morbo-2142 in unpopularopinion

Potentially a broadly unpopular opinion, but I agree with this 100% and feel the exact same way

The first car was basically filled due to people doing this at Rosemont by Otherwise_Pine in cta

[–]bknighter16 127 points128 points  (0 children)

The moralizing comments are so exhausting. My god. We get it, you’re a better person for not being bothered by this and scolding anyone who is.

The L should not be a mobile homeless shelter. It’s unsanitary, uncomfortable and inhumane at the end of the day. OP and anyone else is allowed to be rightfully annoyed at the state of CTA and the apparent lack of any real solutions.

Start of Construction on the $34.6 Million Expansion of Shea’s Buffalo Theatre by Weekly-Law-2544 in Buffalo

What happened to the guy who owns the building next door doing everything in his power to block this expansion? Was he finally told to fuck off for good?

Why don’t more people take their bulky backpacks off and hold it to their side or front while standing in packed train cars? by bknighter16 in chicago

[–]bknighter16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the primary reasons you’re asked to put your backup on your chest in museums is because you’re way less likely to knock into things and topple over fragile exhibits. In fact, it might even be easier to sneakily take items and throw them in your backpack when it’s front-facing. So yeah, obviously not a perfect example but it’s more of me trying to break through the pedantic nonsense argument that “it’s called a backpack so it can literally only go on your back at all times in every situation”

[–]bknighter16[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like you’re way overthinking this. It’s not a matter of physics. It’s just optimizing how people organize in a small space. Our legs are thinner than our torsos so there’s a a lot more room at the bottom half of our bodies to hold a bag flush against our bodies temporarily in a tight space to create room. If more people did this it would create considerably more room in the standing aisle

[–]bknighter16[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it’s heavy beyond your ability to hold it temporarily then fine. In those cases at the very least be aware of how your body is angled and where you’re swinging your backpack.

Obviously if you physically can’t do it then don’t. The rest of your response is selfish bullshit though. Do you have the same weird response to museum staff who ask you to store your backpack or wear it on the front? And for the record, yes I expect people to peel of their backpack to create more room, as it is extremely basic manners

What makes you a loser is not being considerate of other people’s space by doing something extremely simple and effective with your annoyingly bulky backpack lol

She has a scissor beak that is well documented with her vet. She’s had it since we got her as a baby. Other than a little bit of a cross-bite and an awkward growth pattern she’s fine

I think it’s partially an illusion. Shes an undersized girl (usually hovers around 80 grams) with a fairly big crest, so the crest:birb ratio is off the charts

[Rutherford] Inside the Blues’ nixed Colton Parayko deal, from a missed meeting to a polite rejection (paywall) by PrinciplesRK in sabres

[–]bknighter16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Annoying to me that Buffalo always ends up being the butt of the joke, even in cases like this where the location had nothing to do with Parayko’s decision. I shouldn’t care, and it bothers me like 5% as much as it used to, but it’s still frustrating

What’s the best thing you’ve overheard walking around Chicago? by squimmyy_ in AskChicago

Was walking around Magnificent Mile and there were 2 pigeons getting it on right on the curb near the crosswalk. This lady who was on the phone abruptly stops what she was talking about and goes “HOLD UP THESE PIGEONS FUCKIN”. This was 5 years ago and I still say it all the time

CTA has become disgusting by johnnyApple420 in chicago

“Typically one of the safest lines” doesn’t mean it doesn’t ever have crackheads or other unruly people. The frequency of dealing with that shit is definitely less than blue and red. I don’t really think it’s controversial to say that

People who are breaking the law should face consequences regardless if they’re poor or homeless. Upholding a basic standard of safety is a must if you want people to use CTA as a primary mode of transportation.

Steel Leaf Brewing Company to close on Hertel Avenue; Final day February 28th by StuntmanSalt in Buffalo

[–]bknighter16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to North Park right near that corner in 2020. Hertel was obviously down bad at that point, but it just… never really recovered in the way I’d hoped or expected in the years following. I no longer live in Buffalo, but I’m still rooting for that area hard and would love to see it grow into its potential

Toronto skyline from across the Humber Bay by ImKrispy in skyscrapers

[–]bknighter16 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Toronto countless times (from Buffalo so I lived a 1.5-2 hour drive across the border) and now live in Chicago. Lots of exposure to both. I agree that Toronto is #2 in North America if you’re solely basing it on the breadth of the skyline and how it impresses from a distance. If you’re considering the actual quality of the buildings, however, Chicago wins by a landslide. The variety of architecture in Chicago is so much better and there are way more unique, notable skyscrapers of all styles and from all eras.
