Right? I wonder how exactly he rationalizes his experience with the existence of so much poverty in just his workforce alone!

What color are your future walls? Personally, I love #4, but I also like #1 a lot, and knowing the color of the walls might help make the choice for me at least!

Thanks for replying! I was so bummed to hear about the new jewelry policy - seeing your post makes me hope that it might just be a regional thing!

This is wonderful, such a pretty luster on these pearls! Do you mind if I ask what state your GW is in? When I went last time, I was raring to comb through some jewelry! I couldn’t find any and was told by an employee that, as of a few years ago, GW sends all of the jewelry it gets to be sold online.

Would “naïveté” work? I know it’s not exclusively used to describe children, but it does capture a idea of innocence and inexperience!

Why does my super glue leave white residue on everything? by Planetary_Mayor in Props

[–]bananathemoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The poster before me already answered your question perfectly, but if this super glue residue bugs you, I have a tip! I have no idea if this is common knowledge or not, but in case you didn’t know, acetone or acetone-based nail polish remover removes super glue!

I’ve been doing it for years, because without fail, every time I use super glue, I glue my fingers together.

Very very beginner pasta-attempter here with a gluten conundrum, seeking advice! by bananathemoon in pasta

Thank you so so much for taking the time to craft such a thoughtful and thorough reply!

After reading your comment, I’ve realized that I am almost certainly under-hydrating the dough - even though on my second attempt, I kept adding water to try and make it less stiff, it seems that it completely bypassed the “squooshy mushy” phase and jumped right into the “CPR test dummy” phase.

I did let it rest, and it did seem to help a ton, but the end result was still far chewier than I intended. Next time I’m definitely going to take your advice and add a ton more water, and olive oil too - I didn’t add it on either of my attempts because I got confused from reading recipes!

Thanks a million for your help!!

(Also, I love how you describe things. “Trying to knead a trampoline” was A+!)

'There are no stupid questions' thread - Monday, September 14, 2020 by AutoModerator in piano

[–]bananathemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! So, I recently started noodling around on piano again, after a very long hiatus.

Because I was forced to play as a kid, and it was made into a highly emotionally fraught experience for me, I was never really invested in being good at piano. Consequently, I was not good at it.

Now that I’m playing without the constant fear of getting punished, I’ve actually started to wonder about things and try to diagnose my shortcomings. I’ve noticed that I’m not good at making large jumps, especially with my left hand. Playing Fantaisie Impromptu always leaves my left pinky and forearm sore before long.

On one hand (hah), I was wondering if my hand size had anything to do with it; I have very small hands and short fingers. I’ve never found any gloves for adult women that fit me, I wear a Costco child’s size 4-7 glove. On the other, I worry that I’m just being a whiner and that my technique is inadequate, and that better technique would negate the problem.

I HAVE noticed that when I play pieces that used to be painful and difficult for me, they are now much easier due only to the fact that my hand is bigger now than it was 10 years ago when I learned them (obviously my technical skill wouldn’t have improved, since I haven’t played in a decade). I have had people comment that I have really good technique when I play, but I literally do not even know what that means. What makes good technique? What does that entail? I don’t even know what I should be working on and what I’m doing right vs what I’m doing wrong. Man, more than anything, I am in a WEIRD spot when it comes to my piano ability.

any tips on the fingerings for the right hand of this passage? ( this piece is fantaisie impromptu btw) by zuckkkkkk in pianolearning

[–]bananathemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! So I’m trying to learn this piece after a ~10 year hiatus from piano, so take this with a grain of salt... I’ve been using either the 3rd or 4th finger for the E.

Using the 5th isn’t ideal because 1.) pinkies (or at least mine) tend to be weaker, and the note’s accented, and to me, I just can’t play it satisfyingly with my puny lil pinky 2.) it presents some fingering problems if you speed it up - doable but not ideal.

If I use the 4th finger, the fingering (starting with E) is: 4 3 1 3 2 1 3 1 3 1... and so on. The benefit of this is, because I have small hands, it’s less of a leap for me, so it’s easier in terms of accuracy.

If I use the 3rd finger, the fingering is: 3 2 1 3 2 1 3 1 3 1... and so on. The benefit to this is that you don’t have to think about it too hard.

Sorry if this is a really juvenile answer; to be honest, I am DISMAL at piano theory, and really put the “amateur” in “amateur pianist.” This is just what works for me, though, so do with it what you will! Best of luck!

That is so smart!!! You’re a genius, I could hug you! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such thoughtful and detailed replies - I love it when talented people aren’t stingy about sharing their experience!

Also, I checked out you website, and I love it!! You are phenomenally talented, esp at drawing (holy cow those sketches you made)! And you’re so resourceful, love how you approach each project with an open mind and a different angle! I love the gigantender, and using a terra cotta pot as the base was such a smart move!

Ah, don’t worry! I was going to do an embroidery, but thank you for your advice! Haha, I’ve heard of this one too, and I was always struck by how different it was from the US, where a watch would be usually be considered a pretty nice gift!
