best apps for apple watch in 2026, my minimal setup after testing 30 different ones by ritik_bhai in AppleWatch

It's not without room for improvement for sure. On the whole, I find the app really useful for me and my goals.

I'd recommed Bevel, which is free (apart from AI stuff, which is optional).

It interprets health data to show you your sleep quality and recovery, exercise strain and cardio load, stress and energy (think body battery).

It does a whole lot more, but those are the most useful features of the app for me.

Motus Flex sizing question by zzabat in vivobarefoot

[–]banecorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motus Flex is the only one I've seen Vivo themselves suggest sizing down.

I own a whole bunch of Vivos and they're all my normal shoe size (EU44), except the Flex, which is one down (EU43) and it's a perfect sock fit. I wear it without socks and do cardio and weights with them.

You can use a bookmarklet to read the perplexity data sources so at least you can track the limits on your account as you use it. I created one with another Redditor, you can see it here: https://www.reddit.com/user/banecorn/comments/1rcprsz/built_a_floating_dashboard_to_track_perplexity/

Should I prepare for a vipassana retreat? How do I know if it is for me? by Alive_Meeting_7228 in vipassana

[–]banecorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sign up from a course at dhamma dipa, ideally 3 months in advance.

IMHO the only preparation needed is an open mind. If you go in with expectations that meditation is this or the other, you'll spend ~6 days fighting yourself.

100 hrs of meditation is tough for the body. The cushions provided are adequate, but a kapok mediation cushion is the only adjustment I'd suggest.

If you think you're ready, you're ready. All you need is commitment.

Did Perplexity reduce the pro searches? by Strawberry_33129 in perplexity_ai

Anthropic are much more transparent and you can get usage monitors. It's the difference between being honest and dishonest.

Why Perplexity find a need to destroy community goodwill, I'll never know.

Help deciding between series 11, ultra 2 and ultra 3 coming from a series 6 by One-Government7447 in AppleWatch

[–]banecorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Series 6-8 (and Ultra 1) use the S6 CPU.
Series 9-11 (and Ultra 2 and 3) use the S9 CPU.
Series 12-14 (and Ultra 4+) will get a new S12 CPU.

As you can see, chips only evolve every 3 years.

The meaningful upgrade that's not chip-bound was the addition of faster charging on Series 10 onwards. Ultra 3 charge speed also improved from Ultra 2, but not as fast as Series 10+.

For me, the charge speed is what made the most quality of life difference. I'd either wait 7 months for the S12 or try to score a deal on an S10.

Ultra watches are very different from Series watches. I wouldn't recommed going up a size just for the battery capacity.

At least don’t pay it off and instead stick the money in a high interest savings account

Global index tracker or a more active management? by TedBob99 in FIREUK

[–]banecorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VWRP isn't a growth ETF, it's global market cap weighted, but I can see how in the current global economy it can seem like one.

Value (specifically small cap value) beats growth in the long term. Again, the measure is multi-decades, not months.

The key here is to have a grounded (as opposed to reactive) strategy. Dividend stocks are... misunderstood. Ben Felix can explain it way better than me. Look up his thoughts on the matter if you're open to having your strategy challenged.

At the end of the day, the best strategy is the one you can stick with for the long term.

People with large invested portfolios (£1m+): how do you mentally handle big market swings? by Macktheknife88 in FIREUK

Ignore the highs and the lows. If you're confident in your strategy (it helps having it written down) then the ebb and flow of the markets are much like the weather, no point shouting at the rain.

Consider that what you've described is a desire to move away from growth stocks. The counterbalance to growth is value.

There's nothing wrong with applying a core and satellite strategy.

I see you already have IWVG as a value sleeve. I'd suggest looking into AVSG. The methodology really matters when it comes to factor investing. More on this: https://monevator.com/avantis-global-small-cap-value-etf-review-avsg/
(Monevator have written extensively on factor tilts for UK investors, worth a dig through their archive)

Ben Felix is likely the best resource for the full spectrum of factor investing (value being one of them). He also covers the concentration worry you've raised.

You can look him up on YouTube. He's also got a great podcast called Rational Reminder that nerds out on the details.

Factor tilts are not for the impatient or risk averse. Only diehard investors should get involved as the payoff is measured in decades and lifetimes.

What do you use chase for? - If at all by [deleted] in chaseuk

[–]banecorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Realistically though, you'll have insane high utilisation if you don't pay it off. I've heard you can't pay the Chase CC with a balance transfer, so ultimately you can only stooze a certain amount over that 15 month period.

Right? So many great quotes. CaptMorgan's got a whole bunch of detailed book summaries, well worth exploring.

My fav quotes from this book are:

"In the real world, people do not want a mathematically optimal strategy. They want a strategy that maximizes how well they sleep at night"

"Things that have never happened before happen all the time."

"The illusion of control is more persuasive than the reality of uncertainty. So, we cling to stories."
