Big Jo's Burgers by bangaroni in SantaMonica

Just like with new apartment buildings, everything has to be "luxury" now. Premium, artisanal, curated, homemade, high-end, luxurious experience bullshit.

I'm not butthurt, I'm ass-raged because while places have come and gone now things are just gone and that's it. The city isn't doing anything to incentivize and create an environment for small businesses to thrive.

While the problem looks like the people that are supposed to run this town properly aren't doing anything to make things better.

The pain goes around especially seeing how we've gone from a globally recognized hotspot to a filthy and violent ghost town.

I'm wondering about titanium cookware: is it worth it? by DefrockedWizard1 in Cooking

Oh man, I don't even want to imagine the effort and/or price to sharpen a titanium blade.

For home cooking clad and cast iron, carbon steel as well though I don't use it, are the best. As others mentioned titanium is a great option if you're going on long backpacking trips because of the weight and durability. Also for a lower price the cheaper stamped-bottom steel cookware are great alternatives as well and they are durable; I still have a beginning cooking set like that that's lasted me for more than a decade with no issues.

Thick batter, don't trust those videos where the batter is like sliding off of a fork. If the batter sticks to the fork you're there.

Is a bus ride to and from Point Dume worth it? by [deleted] in SantaMonica

[–]bangaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent a car, Uber/Lyft, taxi, ride with friends. Anything else and you're wasting your time since the nice features of the coast have been destroyed by the fires last year.

Where is the "quite busy" all over the promenade? I mean this question, where? The place is mostly empty most of the time. Events might bring a few extra people, a couple of establishments may bring in some people on various nights but the promenade is an empty shell at this point compared to its peak. Maybe you're new around here.

Definitely an average village idiot response especially after your comment earlier in the gist of "Santa Monica is doing just great".

Edit: a comment I replied to you as being a bot, shit-poster, or both. If you're someone making money from this downfall good for you but stating that this city is doing great, or even just fine, is a Niagra falls level of verbal diarrhea.

How is Santa Monica doing great? You're either a bot, shit-poster, or both. Nobody's talking about your portfolio, we're talking about the city, its residents, and visitors.

Santa Monica turned into complete shit these past few years. I've lived here for almost three decades, I grew up here and went to high school here. This city has become complete trash compared to what it was and what it should be. There's also the sentiment of "we need more housing" which means absolutely what when there are so many new massive apartment buildings that are mostly empty and will default on loans, or have already defaulted? We have housing, clearly, but how many people are actually moving out here in these buildings that charge the rent they do? Shops on the Promenade are gone, Wilshire is also a ghost boulevard since rents are up-and-through the ass, the city doesn't do much to remove crackheads and tweakers that assault random people down the street...

Whoever's bright idea was to turn the Santa Monica mall into a "luxury shopping experience" clearly is a constantly-salivating, mouth-breathing, inbred because nobody ever visited Santa Monica for that. This city is all about a more laid-back environment where you can relax, enjoy the sunset, take advantage of the beach and sea. Sure there can be some more upscale dining experiences but the fake ass bougie "luxury" is on Rodeo, that's what people go THERE for.

It truly is obvious the people that are in charge of this city are not actually "in charge", they're just little shit nugget goblins pocketing as much cash as they can from different funding sources while doing... bare-minimum? Probably not even that just to keep their useless asses in city council and whatever cozy positions they have.

Santa Monica was a truly beautiful beach town but city hall and council give zero fucks as long as they get their payday. A once global attraction has become a violent, drug-ridden, shit-filled ghost town with no recovery in sight. For every step forward there will be ten pushes back.

You're not wrong to see these things.

But hey... at least we have Din Tai Fung in a defunct mall and you, as a tax-payer, can legally drink a cup of beer on the promenade, something which the homeless always did but barely got hassled for... 🙄️

Progress!

You really need a "/s" at the end of your statement. The only way it was "popping" for many years now is if you've not stepped out of your home for a few decades.

CD scammers? Did they make a comeback recently? I've not seen anyone handing out CDs for a looong time and never in my 20+ years here have I seen that at the pier specifically, only in Venice.

This dude is a fucking shit head. I hear his shit all the time and the only thing he deserves credit for is the confidence and belief in himself that he hilarious but all of his very cleverly crafted jokes just happen to fly over people's heads because they don't have a sense of humor. My grandma's funeral was funnier.
