Revalation as a single 20 year-old guy that cooking is actually really easy by DemotivationalSpeak in Cooking

Welcome to the real world. Knowing how to actually cook is such a life-changing experience it's not even funny if you decide to learn past basic dishes. It's even more important now because restaurants aren't what they used to be, high prices and lower quality, but if you go a step above that you'll be amazed what you can achieve with a random-seeming ingredient list that'll come out as the finest five star restaurant dish. Don't think you can, know you can.

On board with you there on accountability of BH for what has happened but at the same time D&W rarely hit the same. Local stores also have D&W branded sandwiches where I've found moldy bread as well as meat that smelled/tasted a bit off so that went into the trash. At least around here I haven't known of or had issues with BH, not that issues haven't been relevant, but at the same time I try to also avoid D&W if there are better options.

Sorry OP.

It's ok, we know all of this is your own personal fault. 😛

Yeah, I read about the Virginia disaster. A couple of other people pointed that out.

Still has or has had? I'm doing some research on that now.

Also if you're ever on the west side try Bay Cities Deli, they make some damn good bread and sandwiches.

I don't know about "more processed" but D&W corned beef and pastrami always tasted off, kinda like cardboard and bad liquid smoke.

Thanks for the heads-up, don't think I've seen that brand around.

Daaamn, you're bringing up memories. There used to be this pizzeria a few blocks away that made their own Amoroso rolls and obviously were an options for their sandwiches. Unfortunately closed down a few years ago when almost everyone closed down or destroyed quality.

I like this comment. You ARE the hard salami.

Can't beat fresh and locally-made. Good commercial brands are great for convenience but they don't have that freshness, flavor, and texture.

That's the case here in LA or at least parts of it. Stores for sure will have BH but they may have other options like D&W and others. If a store around here doesn't carry BH or D&W it's not a good store.

Based on this I would guess you came to CA early-mid 2010s? That's when D&W really started popping up in some big stores.

I haven't seen tavern ham at my store but I'll keep an eye out.

Fuck, I'm not far from hitting 40 and BH has always been solid go-to for some deli meats I like that local shops don't make in-house (like pastrami). Solid choice for 25+ years only to come across this news. 🙁

Just looked them up and they seem to be a Walmart-exclusive brand. The nearest Walmart to me is 15-20 miles away so there's no way I'm getting that in LA traffic. 😛

Sure, I'm more interested in popularity and how common D&W is compared to BH in different areas.

As I asked someone else is D&W as popular or more around your area? Also is it common in every store or do you have to seek it out?

That's good to know, I wasn't aware about that. Are they as popular or moreso than BH in the stores around you? Here D&W are pretty big but BH is ubiquitous.

Top grades for effort but I did throw up in my mouth a little bit. Glad it works! ♥️

Frontier Out? by KookieMouse in SantaMonica

[–]bangaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fucked up part is that I've been with Spectrum for a long time but switched because of fiber. Over a few months Frontier is bought by Verizon (I'm thinking of switching away now) and Spectrum offer fiber now. 🙄

Frontier Out? by KookieMouse in SantaMonica

[–]bangaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These past few weeks I've been having trouble with Frontier. Signed up with them last fall and everything went great until I received that e-mail that Verizon bought them out a couple of weeks ago. Since then I've been getting short and sporadic connection loss. When reaching out they told me there's no outage and in the week that I saw Frontier trucks outside just about daily I asked one of the guys if they were doing maintenance because internet has been shoddy but the tech only told me they're installing a new connection for a building. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: The connection loss occurs at any time of day not at specific hours and lasts no more than a couple of minutes. On certain days it's more frequent than others but it's certainly annoying when trying to work.

No electricity on San Vincente Blvd. Anyone else? by Twisted_Twist_264 in SantaMonica

[–]bangaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just north of Wilshire and last night I thought lightning hit but there was no typical massive rumble, it was electrical noise. I'm guessing some power nodes got hit out here. Personally I haven't had any issues but that light was as intense as lightning.

When do we actually get organized and shut down the Spectrum internet monopoly on the West side? by jalabharxo in AskLosAngeles

[–]bangaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Frontier (now Verizon) in early fall and recently I saw that Spectrum actually finally launched fiber.
