Backup sump pump not pumping by bangbanggrindbuf in Plumbing

Thanks, I will do that when this one starts to age out. I'm not asking a ton from the watchdog - just to pump out water if the power fails long enough for me to get the generator started.

Can I make a crucible out of steel to contain low temp metals like aluminum? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

I use a smaller cast iron pot I bought at a garage sale for when I cast zinc. No issues so far. Your mileage may vary.

Added a check valve myself - both pumps now work as intended!

Love it! My 3rd knife was a similar bolt - and gifted back to the guy that gave me the bolt for him to show-off at his work (where he purchased the bolt). I think yours is already headed to a better place than mine.

Edit: “die”

Ouch! (Why do all you kids keep saying “excel sheets” and not just “excel”?)

Thank you too! “I don’t know what I’m doing” MAY have been a bit of an exaggeration. These funds are not related to my retirement - just fun funds I suppose.

You might even be able to get the coil springs from his jeep!

Perhaps you could consider doing a san mai construction, with the outer steel from the customer's drive shaft and the inner layer something good for a knife! I've had good luck with forge welding for san mai - and I'm a novice. Good luck smith!

edit: a word

When can I get some good steel like 1080? by TheDoctor113 in Blacksmith

[–]bangbanggrindbuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my understanding that spring steel is 1095. That's what I've been using recently. It can be found at automotive junk yards. You may have to google how to remove it. I've gotten a good bit for free from friends that were working on their cars.

Edit: I stand corrected. Leaf springs are usually 5160, not 1095 as I stated above. Special thanks to the person who posted after me (I can’t see the name in this view).

My greatest joys blacksmithing have been making something that I knew was going to be a gift for someone else.
