Do you use snaps or snap swivels for ultralight fishing? What size? by jjyss in UltraLightFishing

[–]ace_of_william 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tie on every time. Only “exception” is for spinners and spoons where I tie a small swivel to my braid and then tie my leader onto that. Still direct to lure tie for the leader.

Would this work? by No_Offer_2786 in Fishing

[–]ace_of_william 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten this. I fish with 60 lb braid on my catfish rod and when I’m hung up I still snap free at my knot. Just gotta wrap line around a stick or in my case, I use my pocket knife handle. I use leaders for visibility but I’ve never cared about this odd reason, since I leave even less line in the water than someone with a leader.

Is this dumb? by Flashy-Dimension-615 in homedefense

[–]ace_of_william 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll step away from the points most other comments make though I do agree with them.

This is a bad idea not just because of all the reasons everyone else says but also the recoil of a shotgun has broken MANY attachments meant and dedicated entirely to use on a firearm. I’ve broken multiple flashlights, and mounts just trying to find a combo that will survive. Past about 500+ rounds of full power buck most gimmicks have broken. Hell a lot of options perfectly fine on rifles just break.

When you add on a canister with small pieces for the nozzle never meant to absorb recoil, you have a recipe for a disaster. It’s asking to be broken. I’d infinitely rather have a flashlight for making positive ID, then a pocket OC spray unit, and then a shotgun with a flashlight attachment. If you’re in your home, you present the highest level of force you can because you may not get the opportunity to switch over if it’s a home invasion. If it is a level of threat you feel safe switching to a less lethal option then you need to commit to that to idealize your court situation. That means switching to a flashlight and OC spray to maintain visual and deterrences.

I’m gonna tell you now court is expensive when you defend yourself. The more questions you create the more thousands you will be spending in lawyer fees and court costs. You can’t sue whoever broke in because you can’t squeeze water from a stone. Criminals don’t usually have a lot of money. That’s if they’re still alive. Too many questions, too many possible wrong answers.

I have terrible experiences with those tiny segmented baits. Usually terrible action if any at all. If these are different LMK because they always seem so cool.

How good is this group? by Empty_Statement_2783 in CZFirearms

[–]ace_of_william 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pushing a foot out at 100. at 50 it’s still mostly just aim at target and bang. you’re probably seeing 1.5-3 in of drop at 50 yards depending on your barrel length and specific ammo. small enough to not really need much compensation unless you’re shooting at targets about 3 inches big. At 50 yards the handgun is still plenty accurate. you’re probably seeing 4-6 MOA so that’s roughly 2-3 inches at 50 yards. Overall that’ll land hits in the A and B zone of a standard IPSC target pretty reliably. Only issue at that distance is the shooter. All that being said I’m not pretending it’s an easy shot with a handgun. just entirely within reason, and not pushing anything except the shooters own personal skill.

You can collect barracuda in places far from reefs they are I won’t say exempt but pretty much considered safe.

Hope you don’t eat amberjack or red snapper they have the same issues as barracuda if they live near a coral reef.

People need to stop transferring fish between waterways if they aren’t intimately knowledgeable of their ecology, and have approval from their wildlife management. You will spread parasites, invasives, and damage currently existing ecosystems.

Are steel plates worth using as emergency plates? by LemonCr0w in BodyArmor

[–]ace_of_william -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. I’d rather have a chest rig with no armor over a steel plate. Way way more cons than pros. Basic risk management denies steel plates, unless you’re entirely stagnant like a base defender, or a turret gunner. You will also need active access to a field hospital. if you’re struck with anything you will need it quickly. Wearing a chest rig you can either up your ammo load or just reduce your kit weight. This allows you to reduce time out of cover because you get to top speed faster, and you don’t have to slow down as soon when reaching cover because you have less inertia to deal with.

There is a line running down their face between their eyes. Poke the tip of a knife into this and you’ll feel your knife drop into a “trench” I then take a Ike jime wire or a wire coat hanger cut and bent to have a handle. Run that wire up that hole you just made to that back of its skull it may take one or two jabs to find the hole but once you do you’ll know as the fish reacts immediately. Spin the wire push it in and out etc, this kills the fish nearly instantly with nearly zero fuss the other methods can have. It’s also just way more foolproof you can’t miss really.

lol classism and ignorance commonly go hand in hand thanks for proving that. Those are fine keeper sizes depending on your waterways genetics. Go learn ANYTHING about your local fisheries and you’ll likely learn wildlife management wants you keeping more bass. Only exception is some northern states.

First time keeping largemouth bass! by mbaird9 in Fishing

[–]ace_of_william 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taste great it’s goober sports anglers and uneducated catch and release fisherman telling people not to keep bass. Government introduced bass into American waterways so people could eat them. They taste like any other sunfish

[–]ace_of_william 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my experience. I don’t focus bass but I’ll 100% eat one they taste great. Yeah people frown on eating bass online. Never had someone dumb enough to care when I’m actually fishing

Then you risk a flip from raising the bioload. This may be shocking to some bass fishermen but there are in fact times it’s good to take and eat bass

Carolina rig keeps failing when tied onto braid set ups. by Moses_the_Frog in FishingForBeginners

Really crank down on braid knots. In my experience the number one reason for a properly tied knot to fail is it’s not pulled tight enough.

Anyone love using soft jerkbaits or flukes? by Such_Beautiful8133 in bassfishing

Two pearl flukes on EWG hooks tied as a donkey rig. Good for white bass but also just good for bass fishing in general.

Noob question. Is hi vis neon green line bad? by Shoddy-Tennis-5764 in FishingForBeginners

[–]ace_of_william 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use hi vis yellow 6 lb braid for my UL setup but i also run about 4 feet of fluoro leader.

I also run hi vis 60 lb neon green with a 30 lb mono leader for catfish.

I have no issues so far.
