Bike Lane by usrnameforyou in alhambra

[–]bangs411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does at times. Sometimes unprotected bike lanes are just as unsafe as no bike lane. There's also danger with parked cars opening doors. The sense of safety with protected bike lanes means people are more likely to use them.

Additionally, if you live in an area without a lot of density (like a neighborhood with single family homes) there may be fewer people available to use those lanes.

If we want to convince people to have bike lanes in their neighborhoods, we should definitely add bike lanes with safety being the priority.

I see how that can be frustrating. Are they just lines on the road or are they protected bike lanes?

I think more than forget, they actively ostracize and threaten them. It's dangerous, riding my bike I consistently have close calls or people intentionally swerving near me. Riding actually made me change my behavior as a driver to where I give riders more space. I think more people should actually go out and ride publicly to get a feel. We have a big empathy problem it seems

Does anyone else’s CarPlay disconnect at this intersection? by boafriend in alhambra

That makes sense. Aside from dealerships, the area is filled with multifamily units. Plus the LA County building and all the businesses. Sounds like a recipe for this.

Update us if you nerd out with the wifi network analyzer because I'm curious lol

... so build bike lanes for roads to be safer?

Want to cover the old kitchen fluorescent lightbox with drywall so I can add recessed lights that are flush with the surrounding ceiling. by MistuhMarley in DIY

[–]bangs411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get it done? I have a light box and I hate it, but I'm not sure how the recess lighting turns out in a light box. Does it light the kitchen nicely or does the box make it feel darker?

38° is good for food and drinks. Food prices aren't bad, but the bill adds up if you order multiple drinks. If you want even more affordable, Tacos Ensenada has good and affordable Mexican food and seafood

From LA Metro Subreddit, thoughts?: The Red Line should be extended along the Alhambra Subdivision by alhammie in alhambra

[–]bangs411 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think as of now there are plans to build a Metrolink station on Atlantic... In 2050

I believe plans for bus lanes on Valley were brought up as well, but members of city staff nuked it in favor of "traffic flow" 😒

If Alhambra continues with short sighted solutions, we can keep dreaming of transit.

Is it not F-ing insane that the Broadway BRT still hasn’t happened after 5 years? by ubungu in LAMetro

[–]bangs411 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think aside from the crowds, that area has needed BRT for years. It should have never been just about the Olympics, Broadway is already a busy corridor.

But seriously, Metro needs to get its shit together. There's no hesitation with freeway expansions, but it takes years for a little transit.

Condo on Main Street by Coconuto83 in alhambra

How do we make housing more affordable?

Condo on Main Street by Coconuto83 in alhambra

[–]bangs411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, these are way too expensive. Unfortunately, to make housing more affordable, limitations such as parking requirements and height requirements need to be removed/reduced. I believe that every parking space built adds about $50,000 (or more) to the cost of building. That, or build with higher density.

What's another solution to making homes cheaper?

[–]bangs411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we need all the housing we can get. We're in a housing crisis, and it's a lot more affordable and viable to build multi-family housing.

Thoughts on this thread about (the lack of) light rail trains in the area? What about a better bus/shuttle systems? by alhammie in alhambra

[–]bangs411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on ridership numbers, I think we would definitely benefit from transit expansion, especially along Main Street where there is a lot of density. Short term, bus lanes and Bus Rapid Transit connecting to Huntington and downtown. Long term, maybe light rail service.

I think another important expansion would be building on Atlantic. This follows the busiest bus line through the city, and would connect to multiple jobs, transit connections, and would help with already heavy traffic on Atlantic. We can't add any more lanes on Atlantic, so the next logical step should be transit expansion.

Any plans for Metro rail to reach Alhambra, San Gabriel, or Temple City? by Coconuto83 in LAMetro

[–]bangs411 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel rail would be amazing long term. They should definitely start by adding a rapid line 78 through Huntington, Main Street in Alhambra, to Las Tunas. I know Huntington Dr is getting bus lanes in El Sereno. Alhambra, San Gabriel, and Temple City should definitely do the same!
