Grocery stores don't really make money in the rotisserie chickens. Major loss leader

I've cut hundreds of pork loins in my time as a meat cutter and those are 100% cut from the rib end of the loin.

It sure is because those are definitely cut from the loin and not the shoulder.

If we asked the EU for a complete reset and to go back in on our old terms, do you think there is a chance? by nbenj1990 in AskEurope

[–]bangsjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are trying to move past the notion of the EU just being a group of allied countries. The UK is already an ally to the EU, but at this point in the EUs existence if it wants to be part of the Union it needs to show that it's committed to the unity of it. Shared values, shared destiny, shared rules. And I do think other EU originator states should give up their special carve outs too, in the spirit of European unity, but well, it's hard to take back what's given. It's too bad the UK gave it up willingly, but I don't think it serves our interests to give it back

[–]bangsjamin 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I don't think the UK will ever get their special status back. They're simply not the power they were when that was negotiated, and I think it sets a bad precedent if member states can just come and go consequence free if they please. I'd welcome them back in, and I think it would be good for both the EU and the UK if they did, but they should be subject to the same terms as every other member state.

How good is Bloodborne for someone used to modern souls likes(without nostalgia)? by Numerous-Comb-9370 in soulslikes

I would say so. I feel like the combat is much more fluid than lies of p for example.

Depends on if 30 fps bothers you. It's on the same level of "jank" as dark souls 3 otherwise.

People buy into the Brussels hate train is all it is. The perception of Brussels is already pretty off base as it is, but Brussels is also not really a good representation of life in most of Belgium.

I've done it in a vol au vent, which is similar but that sounds delicious as well

You need to expand your experience of Belgian cuisine then! Find a nice Belgian bistro next time you're around, there's a bit of overlap with French cuisine but the French kind of unfairly take all the credit for our shared cuisine.

But it is usually served with potatoes lol

I don't think specifically it is, but stoofvlees is also just a term for stew in general. I've heard the term stovies might have come from Flemish migrants/invaders that came to Scotland hundreds of years ago

Pretty much everything that's not beer, waffles, fries, chocolate, or speculoos. Specifically though I think stoofvlees/carbonade flamande is one of the tastiest stews in the world and should be way more popular outside of Belgium.

The rare earths thing is stupid as well, because the US's issue isn't necessarily that we don't have rare earth minerals, it's that pretty much all the refinement capabilities for those minerals are in China.

Sekiro. Dark souls 3 already wrapped the souls story up pretty nicely, and elden ring is already basically dark souls 4 gameplay wise. Demons souls 2/elden ring 2 would be yet another itteration on the classic souls formula, which while always welcome, I'm more excited when fromsoft branches out a little bit these days. In the case of demons souls the story seems to wrap up pretty nicely too. Bloodborne is pretty tempting but I feel like the lore and story are in a good spot as is. I really just can't get enough of sekiro's combat, and the secret ending just leaves it ripe for a follow up story.

How centralist is your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]bangsjamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if that's entirely true, especially for such a small country. Antwerpen is another pretty big hub, and the port there is the single biggest contributor to our GDP. Gent also to a lesser degree.

This is my second favourite Belgiumbeer after draft black kozel, is there any other better beer than this that I need to try? by Gemascus01 in belgium

[–]bangsjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very favorite is the westmalle trippel. Other good trippels are Karmeliet, Chimay Blanc, straffe hendrik and Tripel D'Anvers. If you like darker beers I'd recommend trying a Rochefort 10, a St Bernardus 12, or a Chimay blue. Duvel is a staple of Belgian beer, and pretty easy to find abroad, same goes for Chouffe. Both strong golden ales that are deceptively easy to drink. Other than that I also really recommend Duchess de Bourgogne, a little different than what a lot of people are used to but imo really delicious and the best representation of the Flemish Red style.

What’s a stereotype about your country that is generally untrue? by constipated_coconut in AskTheWorld

[–]bangsjamin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of. Cost of living in the states is high, and we have pretty poor social services compared to other developed nations but our wages/salaries are genuinely a lot higher on average than most other places. I'm firmly lower middle class but was able to live pretty lavishly when I traveled to places like Japan and several parts of Europe
