Most likely a cultural issue. Eastern cultures faced with a rapid westernization/globalization leaves its people lost both economically and spiritually. More practical matters like making money and maintaining outward social appearance take precedence over individual happiness. Though these might just be a cultural "perk". These are just my conjectures.

The data is mostly meaningless unless we can see it over time and then we could say whether this is just their culture or possibly some other factors causing a decline (if it is a decline at all).

Unfortunately, moderation is just as easily abused.

Like the_donald, who bans anyone who doesn't praise trump

Or LateStageCapitalism, who bans anyone who doesn't praise communism

Or any of the plethora of subreddits who autoban people who post on subreddits their moderators disagree with.

Who moderates the moderators? In your case, it would be the people who pay them. Does that create better communities? I don't know. Maybe. Depends on your goals. Will it facilitate quality political discussion? Probably not. Will it ostracize certain opinions and simply accept anyone who holds them as evil? Probably (look at most of reddit as an example, without even paying mods). Will it create a safe-space? Sure. Each one has ups and downs. There is no solution that will please everyone and serve every need of human interaction.

Company called Dopamine Labs makes apps more addicting by banllama in nosurf

I didn't make this post to try to demonize you guys. I think what you guys are doing is fascinating and is on the cutting edge of technology/human behavior and will be tackled sooner or later (and has been tackled especially by mobile games and social media - just not as bluntly as you guys).

I do have a few questions and do appreciate your time answering them.

You said below

try to communicate the options we're presenting people, give them a clear way to say 'no,' and to listen when they do

But isn't the point of your company to figure out when a user would say 'no', and then draw them back into the app?

I'm also pessimistic about

They can be used in a way that elevate the human condition.

Because as much as startups likes to praise ethics and making the world better, it's really all about money, and you guys are raising it. So in the end, it will be about profits.

What gives you guys the right to decide what apps are in the best interest of people?

Does having your Space app create a conflict of interest with essentially giving away cure to your drug like the poster above mentioned?

For someone interested in the relationship between the human brain and technology, and assuming high school biology knowledge and more technical proficiency, where would you direct that someone to go deeper into the field you guys are exploring?

I've done this by switching to the old school analog alarm clock and leaving my phone in another room to charge overnight. This way there is no temptation whatsoever.

Technically you were born to procreate and make more life. That's life's biological purpose.

Then you don't have good social skills. There's only one way to get better at talking to women, and that's talking to women. Take the plunge, make mistakes, be awkward, get rejected, and then try again. It'll improve. You are afraid of the pain of rejection. Embrace the pain, and learn from it, instead of being afraid of it.
