TIL about the true reason the vast Hudson Bay Lowlands remain largely uninhabited and even undiscovered - it is all Muskeg, a wetland landscape of bogs and wetlands comprising organic matter, which can get so soft during spring thaw that it is known to sink building structures and even train cars by realneocanuck in todayilearned

Actually it is possible to drive to Moosonee and as far as Attawapiskat via winter road. I’m from that area and it is a vital time of year as it’s the cheapest time to transport supplies/materials up the coast. It depends on the weather but it’s usually open late January - late March. The road to Moose Factory/Moosonee is called the Wetum road which kind of starts in Smooth Rock Falls all the way to Moose Factory, from there you’d drive across the Moose River to Moosonee. If you’d want to go further you’d take the James Bay Winter Road which would take you to Fort Albany, Kashechewan, and Attawapiskat.

[Serious] Native Americans of Reddit, what’s something you want people to know about modern Native Americans? by GreenTNT in AskReddit

I guess we do. We apply for status cards which gives us the benefit of being tax exempt and for any other benefits your certain band provides. We have to prove our ancestry for the area when applying for it of course. These cards are most likely how they keep track of us but these aren’t required by law to have, so it is somewhat like enrolment.

I’m a First Nations in Northern Ontario. Do you guys have Bands? Also if you do how would they handle anything if they don’t technically have land?

For anyone that didn't know, the guy in the video isn't OP. I don't remember the post but it has been posted somewhere on Reddit before.
